Q:

New player here. The last game I played was Rift, which had an excellent LFG system. Are the only ways that I get a group in GW2 for doing dungeons is:
- asking my guild
- asking in LA or whatever map I’m in
- adding the blue LFG tag on me?

Is there another way to find a group? And is using the blue LFG tag helpful?

A:

The LFG tag is map-specific. It’s designed for fellow explorers of Tyria to easily hook up if they are on the same map. Putting up the LFG icon does two things, 1) puts a bright blue icon left of your character’s name, and 2) lists your character’s name in the LFG window. This is (was meant to be) helpful for big Dynamic Events, like the Karka invasion in Lion’s Arch recently.

The biggest misunderstanding of this tool is that people expect/want it to be a Dungeon Group Finder, similar to what World of Warcraft and other MMORPGs have introduced in the recent years.

Believe it or not, the most reliable method for finding PUGs is a third-party website: http://gw2lfg.com/

In my experience, the blue tag isn’t really helpful. There’s just no good way to search for other players who are looking for the same content, particularly on other servers.

thanks, but this game REALLY needs its own internal LFG system
