Q:
Does the Night/Day Cycle change when you zone?
A:
If you stay in the same zone you will get to see the entire cycle. Day, dusk, night and dawn.
Night/day cycle is zone specific. In fact it can be night in the normal server and day in the overflow server at the same time. It runs on a timer.
I noticed that, thought it was kind of odd when transitioning from the overflow to the normal server, it’d be the middle of the night and I’d swap over into the early afternoon haha.
Not a big deal really, just interesting to me that it’s different.
Okay, so if I stay in a zone will the day fade to night? Or must I exit and re-enter for the change? I’ve never seen the sun move and I’ve watched.
Pretty sure it will transition while you are in the zone.
Yeah I believe this is true.

My immersion is always killed because I notice the abrupt changes between night and day. You can even enter a zone during day time and then go into your story and it’s suddenly night. Why they chose to go with this night/day system is beyond me. It’s better than WoW’s system where if you log on at night in RL it is night in game, etc.. but couldn’t they at least have their timers sync’d between all servers/shards?
It’s just really slow and subtle, so can be hard to notice if you’re not specifically looking for it.
It transitions. I’ve witnessed a lot of times the sunrise without the sun. :p
But yeah, I noticed that when you zone out and zone back in, the day/night cycle is different. I’d rather have an 8-hour real-time day/night cycle than “randomness”. That way we can experience 2-days and 1-night or 2-nights and 1-day per 24-hour period. (And have mobs and NPCs react to the cycle too!)
Yeah I believe this is true.
I saw your signature.
