Downed State/Rally in PvP
Here’s a situation that happens quite often:
2 vs 1 scenario. I manage to get them both on a downed state, but since I’m badly damaged, before I can finish one of them or run away to heal, they both keep attacking me and manage to get me down and guess what? Since us 3 are downed, guess who is gonna die first? And after killing me, they both get up, due to “Rally”, like nothing happened….
Down system is saying “pvp is only for zergers”. If you are outnumbered you should be rewarded to take down some of the players with you, right? Gw2 says no. Doesn’t matter your skill, as long as you have more players with you, because the down system will denie your kills. I’ve met a lot of people who are hatting this too. And I’m pretty sure it’s something that they won’t take it off the game.
Remember that this is a player helping player forum section, so you should create threads like that and not discussion threads.
But otherwise, I think Downestate in PvP is fun, and great. People must learn to adapt to new mechanics and learn how to use them. It also gives you teamwork and can turn a battle around a lot just by ressing your friend.
They are trying to cover it up saying that this is “team based”, and blablabla.
Actually, they don’t need to take downed state off the game. Reducing the time to finish off a player, and not being able to attack while downed… is already good enough for me.
This is just in sPvP and WvW. You can let the way it is in PvE…. is not like mobs care anyway.
The downed state can be really annoying, and it requires a lot of adjustment, but it does accomplish a few important things.
It makes the PvP about territory. If you and your allies are able to pick someone off from relatively long range, it won’t really matter. His teammates will just revive him. To win, you have to control the area you’re fighting over.
It also makes burst damage less ridiculous. In other MMOs, team PvP is often about getting the first kill ASAP and then playing defensively with a numbers advantage. This encourages zerging down someone on the other team, and coasting from there. In GW2, you can definitely spike someone down with coordination, but the game doesn’t end there.
It is possible to win 1v2s, but you generally need a way to stomp someone without being interrupted (stability or some kind of evasion is perfect for this).

I couldn’t have put this better myself. In fact, this is the primary reason that I have stopped PvPing for now, hoping that this ridiculous Downed/Rally mess will be removed from PvP.
This system has no place in PvP. It is allowing people whom I have already defeated to get a second health bar and makes 2v1 almost impossible once one enemy “revives” the other, especially in a case like the above one, where I was able to beat two people but my health is so low and I am so loaded with conditions than I cannot escape, so instead of me standing over two dead enemies, hurting but alive, I wind up just like this poster: being killed by two people that I just beat fair and square.
I have enjoyed competitive PvP in several mmo’s, and here’s my thing: if you want a “second health bar”, then you need to re-spawn and come try me again. This system is cheesy and it makes the PvP in this game far inferior to the original. Much of the skill requirement has been removed and now we are seeing the almighty zerg instead of preparation and teamwork.
Seriously ANet, Downed needs to be dumped from PvP.
It’s not that I am having trouble understanding it, but, for me, this ruins the flow of PvP combat. The keyword there is “flow”.
I agree, it does feel like it somewhat inrerrupts the flow of PvP, though it’s not a huge issue for me, I do think PvP and WvW would benefit with this mechanic fully removed.

I’ve been in this exact situation, where i kill TWO people and they rally. After a long fight with some warrior and he downs me but i manage to rally because he has 1% health, NO ACCOMPLISHMENT. Really, i feel like i’m abusing the system. Know what i do now? get them to 5% or less then let them down me in a 1v1 lol i win. Instant rally-win. I’m good, amirite? srry, no skill there.
Get rid of this pointless downed-state in spvp.
Gotta say, I’m confused by people saying that there’s no skill involved. Stop being surprised when someone rallies — learn how the system works.
I dislike how Rally works because you can rally from someone pretty far a way providing you hit him a few times before, but the down-state if fine.
If you get 2 players down, you got the advantage since they have limited skills and you don’t, just try to survive a few more seconds(dodge, survival skills, hide behind a wall…) until your heal comes back up then stomp them both, plus if they are hitting you they aren’t healing them selves so it will be easy to outlast them even if you go down later.
