Dungeon Tips for Any Class: AKA Rule #1
4) You will go down, and it will be frustrating.
You will go down, and it will be frustrating. This will happen to all of us, even the greatest of us. All it takes is one missed dodge, one moment where you freeze, and down you go. Think of that moment for a second: You can see your life slowly dwindling away, you can’t move, you’re 3 and 4 haven’t popped up yet, and you’re left staring at the one who knocked you down watching as he marches ever closer, the Grim Reaper coming to crush the last breath from you. Remember how much that sucked? How frustrating it is to be powerless, knowing your end is coming the certainty that the sun will rise? But what if? What if you weren’t so crushingly, bitterly, hopelessly alone?
Enter your savior: They leap to your side as others rush the kitten who downed you. As the others fight him off, he kneels beside you and pulls you back from oblivion.
YOU CAN BE THAT HERO.
Whenever you see a teammate go down, help him any way you can. If you’re fighting off four others, toss out a buff so the others can get him while you fend off the horde. Or, if you can, help him yourself. Either way, if one of your own goes down, never ever ever give up on trying to bring him back. Just be careful when you do it, as it will toss you up to the top of the aggro chart, such as they are.
Edit: Thanks to Khisanth.2948
While you are downed, but not dead, there are a few things you can do to help your teammates help you.
A) If you can move away from the fighting, do it. This allows your teammates a little breathing room while they try to revive you. (An ability that allows you to move or dodge or disappear).
B) Look for a low health enemy. If there is a non-elite/non-champion nearby, try to kill them. If you can kill them, you rally and can run away to heal.
C) If you have an ability that knockbacks/stuns etc, use it to protect your allies.
Rule #5: Death blows: learn from it.
Let’s assume your teammates can’t manage to save you. You’re dead. You can’t resurrect at a waypoint and run back. You’re stuck there, twidling your thumbs till the fight is over or the rest of your team wipes……
Except, you’re not stuck. You have a rare opportunity, one that doesn’t come along very often at all.
You are free. You may not be able to move or fight, but the threat that once consumed your thoughts is nothing. They cannot touch you now. But you can learn: watch your foe, examine his every flaw, learn his strengths, and ready your mind because when you come back, you’re not going to let the kitten do it again. You’re coming back, an Avenging Angel, ripped from his darkest fears. And you will destroy him with the knowledge you have gleaned while “Dead”.
TL:DR
Rule #1: Don’t be a dick
Rule #2: They are your team, treat them like it.
Rule #3: If you don’t know, ask. If you do know, ask.
Rule #4: You will go down, and it will be frustrating.
Rule #5: Death blows: Learn from it.
These are rules suggested by others, but worth remembering.
Rule #6: Don’t stand in red circles. (Brett.4305)
Rule #7: Refrain from knockbacks. It makes the melee sad. (CriminalMind.4379)
Caveat: If it would save another from going down or dying.
Rule #8: Remember to dodge. (Esplen.3940)
Rule #9: Use your heals. (Esplen.3940)

Personally:
Rule #1 Press v.
Rule #2 Press 6.
Rule #3 Don’t run signets.

nothing wrong with signets. don’t use just signets.
I know this isnt a good ruleset, but from my own experience there are different rules:
Rule #1 don’t pug.
…that’s it.

I like the Rules!

Rule #3 Don’t run signets.
There is absolutly Nothing wrong with running signets
As long as it’s NOT the only thing you use, you are good.
As for everyone who’s yelling at me for signets: Tell that difference to the people who are starting dungeon runs, not me. If you know what you’re doing, it’s fine; most of the people who run signets, don’t.
It’s pretty bad when you get into a dungeon group as a Mesmer and see a Mesmer with 3 signets. Our signets aren’t even THAT good.
Currently, however, I run 2 signets. The reason why is because I can give everyone in the party 6-8 boons with 10-40 sec duration each every 36 seconds.
I like the Rules. Basics of any group event/dungeon. Shout AH Guardian = Team Player.

a mesmer using sig of inspiration with a staff guardian on their team is a team player.
Im not too familiar with others, but know that signets have their uses. they just arent popular because they are seen as “lazy” or they truly aren’t as effective. its not as cut and dry as you initially put it, hence our “yelling at you” or whatever you want to call it.

I meant everyone yelling at me in this thread in particular. I voiced a very narrow-minded opinion as it is a general rule of thumb. If you know what you’re doing, you know what you’re doing. If you don’t: Don’t run signets.

I know how you feel about signets. I understand the pain you are going through on that subject, however, This thread that the OP posted has nothing to do with signets and the Rules he mentioned actually has valid points. So let’s stay in subject and just talk about the rules He presented instead and Not bash people who use signets.
I get it, lots of people who use signets dont understand what they are doing and can be a pain, but thats why I support Rule#1.
As my thief I use signets on occasion depending on the fight.
-Signet of Malice: The healing signet which works wonders with some weapon sets.
-Signet of Shadows: The movement signet, only used outside of combat or when running through mobs, but even then, smoke wall will sometimes trump a signet speed boost.
-Signet of Agility: The +precision signet, only used against certain bosses that require minimal effort, HoTW P1 comes to mind.
-Assassin’s Signet: The +power signet, only used against certain bosses that require minimal effort, also used when the thief from ambush will always be one-shot.
-Infiltrator’s Signet: The +initiative signet, basically never used.
However, underwater for thieves changes things because of the lack of underwater skills we have. It’s basically either run signets or run venoms. I choose to run signets underwater because I don’t have share venoms traited.
IMO signet use != people who don’t know what is up.

Personally, I run a guardian with valor/honor (vitality/toughness). I spam the living kitten out of my shouts, and do my damndest to stand between the squishies and mobs. But rezzing is kitten near impossible with how long it takes, especially if they’re all the way down, and because it knocks your unknowing kitten to the top of the aggro chart, such as they are.
Personally:
Rule #1 Press v.
Rule #2 Press 6.
Rule #3 Don’t run signets.
The topic isn’t for the skills but the conduct. I don’t give a kitten whether someone is brand new or in full 80’s ascended gear. I’ll take the newbie any day of the week if he’s at least a decent player, and I’ll drop the 80 in a heartbeat if he’s being a dick. I don’t give a kitten how good you are, what gear you have, or what your deeps be at, there is never, ever a reason to be rude to your fellow players. If you take issue with them or their play style, then tell them politely, and suggest an alternative.
Rule #2: Team
Yes, I know they’re technically called groups, but that, I think, gives the wrong mentality. You can belong to a group you don’t particularly care about, (you could be white for example), but if you belong to a team, then it has a more definite attachment. And if you’re in a group for a dungeon, they’re no longer four people you found and invited. They’re your team. Treat them as such.
And Remember there is no I in TEAM
And yeah really good general rules, not only for gw2 but for any game that require groups, or should we say teams
Personally:
Rule #1 Press v.
Rule #2 Press 6.
Rule #3 Don’t run signets.
i never ever press 6, and i do fine because I remapped my heal to my mouse thumb button, WAY more convenient place to have it :P really for & to be a conveinet button for heal for most ppl you would have to map your move keys to RDFG really
>_<
Rule #1 don’t pug.…that’s it.
How the hell are you supposed to get a group when you don’t have 4 people you know to go with you then?
And yes, I’m in a pretty active guild, but it still doesn’t mean there will always be people willing to go into a dungeon with me when I actually have the time to do so, or that there will be people to run a particular dungeon that isn’t CoF path 1 or 2.
Enlighten me.

I think the idea is not to end up in the defeated state. :p
For #5 I think it would be better to cover what you should do when downed in order to maximize your chance of reviving/rallying.
You can speed up reviving by using Zealot’s Fervor from Tome of Wrath.
Great post. I would like to add a rule. I may be wrong. Please let me know if I am.
Please dont “knock back” a foe if others are fighting melee. Exception would be to keep from dying. There are two reasons why knocking back is bad.
1. Melee damage ceases until they catch back up with mob.
2. It might push the mob out of aoe. Nothing worse than using a skill just to have someone knock mob away.
These are my opinions. Hope they help.
(This is in general. Not just dungeons)

“Don’t use signets”
Sorry to say, I’ll use Signet of Renewal if the boss has a long-timed condition since it’ll drop it every 10 seconds. Or if they spam a lot of them, then I can use it and drop them onto my pet instead.
Then again, I’m a ranger. I already don’t get invited into dungeon PUGs :P
