I have reached eighty on my elementalist and thief, but now i don’t know what gear i should buy. I have skimmed over three Guild Wars 2 forums, and people seem to say differently to each-other. I know it all comes down to play-style, but neither of my classes struggle in PVE while in large or small groups. Of course, dungeons are completely different, as i am told, so i’m left wondering.

I was never confident with my elementalist. I managed to level up, struggling albeit, with a dagger and a scepter while stacking might with fire, and clumsily switching between the others or not at all. Pretty much as soon as i hit eighty i re-rolled…

As a thief i spammed death blossom constantly. I certainly feel more confident and as if i know what i’m doing, however, being told there’s a bleed cap, being within melee range is difficult in dungeons, and using death blossom doesn’t work well inn dungeons as there’s some places where i might fall off.

At the moment my idea is to buy an assortment of masterwork gear and roam around Orr seeing if i can deal damage as well as take damage, and generally see what suits me more, and then plunge into a dungeon. Though i thought i would also ask others, just get some advice.

I’d say try Caudecus’ Manor or Ascalonian Catacombs on story mode to get a little feeling for the dungeons. That way you can find a role you like to play in groups, and then find traits/gear to compliment that role.

it kind of depends what you want your roll to be in dungeons and what your party is doing also.

if you want high condition damage with crits go rampager.
if you want to crit a lot and at high damage…go berserker.
if you want to live through it go cleric
if you want something in the middle go knight or carrion. I think toughness>vitality for surviviability, so i wouldn’t recommend valkyrie.

then you can use sigils, runes and gems to further customize gear and weapons into your specs. i’d probably look at thief dungeon builds and see what other people are doing. (i’m not a thief so i can’t help too much with that part). Seems like you would want to go with ranged weapons that do useful conditions like vulnerability. Then see what skills you can train to buff those.

So someone mentioned to me try at a lighting hammer build with knight gear, noticed a huge improvement while off by myself.
Some other guy mentioned to me that he runs full berserker’s gear with sword/pistol and pisttol/pistol due being high single-target damage (30 power 20 precision 20 toughness traits).
