Dungeon party makeup
I would “generally” suggest you have a warrior or guardian that leads your party as they don’t usually get 1 shot by traps, turrets and mobs that spawn on your face…
Apart from that every class has something they can bring

We did the Ascalonian Catacombs dungeon for the first time last night with one necromancer and four rangers, it actually worked! I guess my point is that as long as everyone is really careful and knows what they need to do (not on a holy trinity basis, but on more of a team basis) and is perceptive of their surroundings they should be fine.
That said, I also heard having a Warrior or Guardian is very helpful. I would personally pick guardian because (correct me if I’m wrong) there are a couple other ranged classes which do just as good damage as a warrior. Guardians offer a couple very nice mass-healing skills.
After completing Ascalonian Catacombs with both a mixed group (engineer, Guardian, Elementalist, Ranger, Thief) and a group made up primarily of Heavy professions ( 2 Warriors 2 Guardians and 1 Necromancer), my first thought was that our mixed group would fare much better. To my pleasant surprise I found that both groups performed relatively well!
In the end the player’s skill and experience will be the deciding factor whether a group does well NOT the composition of the party.
p.s. Please bear in mind I have only done the first 2 dungeons
I’m a Mesmer and I’m generally the one to pull the mobs initially because I can use Temporal Curtain to slow them down/pull them back and blink to quickly move back. I can also use Feedback on any archers and I have a very long range which gives everyone time to put down their slows/aoe’s etc. Do some damage before the mobs reach us.
I’ve done AC with a fully ranged group (Granted it was Story mode) and that actually ended up working better than a mixed group. Over all though generally I’d say mixed groups are best for explorable mode dungeons. One of everything sort of thing
to be fair though it’s depends a lot on the dungeon. exCM has a lot more ranged mobs than exAC had.
All in all I don’t believe there is a ‘perfect’ group setup. I’m pretty confident that you can do all dungeons with all profession setups as long as you have skilled people and different builds. (At least the first two).
• Have you heard of the city? The ancient uru? Where there was power to write worlds •
My experience has been that you don’t need any special composition of professions to clear a dungeon. What you do need is five people who all know what they’re doing.
What really ensures a smooth run is one person making suggestions for each pull, and everybody generally listening. I’m not a ‘tank’ in any of the groups I’ve run, but I call out focus targets and positioning, and people generally go along with it and things go very smooth. In groups I’ve run where nobody talked and everybody did their own thing, the run generally went poorly.

I apologize if I misread, but are you saying that players from different servers can’t do dungeons together? Because in my experience they can.
I’m on Tarnished Coast, and a person from.. DragonBand? Or something like that joined our group. Couldn’t figure out where he was when meeting up at the entrance, figured he was in overflow or something, but next to his portrait it said (DragonBand).
Sorry, can’t remember his server name exactly.
Anyway, it seems as though there is cross server dungeon partying.
The only thing i found odd about this was that he responded to me in a whisper from what I said in map chat. Something like “LF1M AC story”.
Woah, that’s weird, i logged in and it loaded me to a completely different thread. Sorry for the random above post guys!
