I’ve mostly been going at it solo so I’m not familiar at all with Dungeons. I read you should be well prepared when entering dungeons so with that said I was wondering exactly what I should have on me before going into a dungeon. How many sets of armor should I have on me and should the armor be of an exotic rating ? oh yeah, I’ll be running as a warrior. Same question with weapons.

I guess it would be wise to get " Dungeon ready " before actually doing one. Thanks in advance for any help from dungeon vets.

Generally the higher your stats the better you’ll do, assuming you know how to dodge. There’s a repair anvil at the start of each dungeon and free waypoints to it (so long as no one in the group is in combat). I’ve never EVER taken spare armor in. I’m no min-maxer, I go with guildies, and my main dungeon runner is my guardian who dies not very much at all.

You’ll want a good ranged option; dungeon critters are annoying close up and some fights actually need ranged fire (That ghost with the wolves in AC story, for instance).

Mostly you’ll want a group that a) knows how the fights work and b) is willing to take the time to explain it to you. Almost all the dungeons are easily managed with those two factors in play.

The ghost with the wolves does not need to be ranged. There is a couple of planks you can use to run up to it.

Ya i run dungeons with a warrior and do fine. I agree one ranged weapon with alt melee weapons. Personally i like to use axe/mace and rifle. I suggest you eat some helpful food also depending on the build you go with. What level is your character?

I’m 80. I’ve been using the Temple Of Dwayna Karma Armor, which took me through the entire world map. Not sure how it’s gonna hold up in wvw. I didn’t know you could repair in dungeons so thanks for that info.

With this information I guess I’ll start looking for a group. Thanks for the replies

I’d recommend a guild if you don’t want to get any trash talk.

Guild it shall be. Trash talk and kicking doesn’t bother me though. Dc Universe hardened me the two years I played it.

My advice for your first time through is to hang in the back and watch your party closely. There may be times where your party will want to stack in a certain spot (Twilight Arbor Up path), or run past several groups of NPC’s without fighting (several dungeons), or wait for people to get into position before speaking to a NPC (Citadel of Flame path 2). Pay close attention for Called Targets, party movement on your mini-map, and directions given in chat – then find a way to watch all that without being eaten by angry NPC’s.

For equipment you should be wearing a set of all exotic. Groups that DEMAND that you be a certain build/equipment/profession should be avoided like a toxic plague; especially on your first few times. Anyone can make it through a dungeon if you can harness the full potential of what your character is equipped with. If you join a public group, and are unsure of what to do, state that it is your first time and would like instruction; then stick close to the person who guides you. Dodge out of red circles, they are even more deadly in dungeons than in the open world.

Finally, have fun! It’s a game, it’s a learning experience, this is something a little different. You’ll get the hang of it!

I’ve never heard of anyone bringing extra sets of armor into a dungeon.

As far as equipment goes you’ll want to be wearing one decent set – exotic is obviously best but I’ve not had any problems with exotic armor, rare weapons and green accessories. You’ll also want weapons you’re familiar with and like using and I think it’s a good idea to have at least 1 ranged and 1 melee set, even if you don’t normally use them have one in your bag in case a particular fight requires it.

You might also want to bring some food for the buffs, and maybe repair canisters if you have any (waypoints are free in the dungeon but it saves a bit of time). For really long dungeons (mainly Arah) I’d also recommend a merchant and/or bank summon so you can clear your inventory out part way.

But the main thing you’ll want is at least one person in the group who has done it before and is willing and able to talk you through it. Be honest – tell people it’s your first time and you’re looking to learn the dungeon rather than getting into a speed run group that will skip everything they can. A lot of people are actually very willing to run with dungeon newbies, although it’s easier if you’re in a friendly guild.

For armor, you really only need one set. You can’t drastically change your build in the middle of a dungeon, so you don’t need lots of armor sets. However, I have met several warriors who carry both berserker and soldier’s armor around depending on how much survivability they need.

For weapons, you’ll need at the very least a melee set and a ranged set. Once you get more familiar with specific encounters, you might want to start carrying a wider range of weapons. For instance, on my mesmer, I carry all weapons with me except off-hand sword, and I use them all in dungeons, depending on the encounter. Learn all the weapons, so you know which one is right for the content you’re doing.

Finally, check out youtube for a brief walkthrough of the dungeon you intend to do. You can learn the dungeon well enough that you won’t slow the group down by requiring an explanation of everything. Even if you are running with guildmates, it is considerate to know what you’re getting into and not expecting others in your party to explain everything or to cover for your mistakes. For example, I ran Arah path 2 for the first time a few days ago. I watched a short video on the path before I went, and I knew the mechanics of all the fights and didn’t need to have anything explained to me. Meanwhile, the other new person in the group didn’t prepare and died a lot, hurting the group overall.

Hopefully that was helpful, good luck with your foray into dungeons!

Minor aside, I know you can melee the ghost with the wolves. Ranged gives you both the option of tossing boulders at him (very fun to knock him rear over teakettle) and means you are in place to kill the wolves when he teleports over. I was just trying to give the OP some very broad suggestions so s/he can enjoy a dungeon and then fine tune how s/he wants to engage each fight once it’s no longer new.
