Q:

Hello people,
I am new to GW2 and i have a few questions regarding leveling and dungeons. I’ve had a lot more questions but i managed to answer most of them. So here it goes:

Dungeons

  1. At what level can i start running dungeons? (Currently i am 17 level and i haven’t seen any hint about dungeons)
  2. Do the dungeons in GW2 follow the norm: tank/healer/dps?
  3. If yes, can you tell me briefly the class/role assigment? e.g. warrior->tank/dps etc.
  4. What’s the order of the dungeons?
  5. Is there a Looking For Group system ingame? (I know about www.gw2lfg.com)

Leveling

  1. I know that gathering/crafting can boost experience gaining. Is there a way to see the active gathering nods on the mini map?
  2. Is there a Looking for Guild function or any other recruiting tool ingame?
  3. Is there any to alter sections of the gui? For example, make name plates bigger, add numbers on them, etc
  4. Is there a “least pain” leveling path? To explain myself, when i left the 1-15 area i was 15 level. When i entered the next zone, marked as 15-(Some number i currently don’t remember) i had a very hard time to move to the second “heart” area since i was surrounded by several 17+ mobs which i couldn’t handle all together. Following the story “chain quest” is a safe leveling path?
  5. Are there mounts in the game?

Thanks in advance for any response.

A:

- The first dungeon is unlocked at level 30.

Do the dungeons in GW2 follow the norm: tank/healer/dps?

- It depends on the dungeon. There are dungeons where only dps goes in and comes out without trouble. There are also dungeons where tanks and dps is needed. Healers aren’t needed every class has heal skills. However supporter are always nice.

If yes, can you tell me briefly the class/role assigment? e.g. warrior→tank/dps etc.

warrior→ tank/dps/support
guardian→ tank/support
necromancer→ tank/dps
mesmer→ dps
thief→ dps/support
engineer→ support
ranger→ dps/support
ele → dps

What’s the order of the dungeons?

There are 8 dungeons + temporal dungeons and fractals of the mist.
Level 30 – Ascalonian Catacombs
Level 40 – Caudecus’s Manor
Level 50 – Twilight Arbor
Level 60 – Sorrow’s Embrace
Level 70 – Citadel of Flame
Level 76 – Honor of the Waves
Level 78 – Crucible of Eternity
Level 80 – The Ruined City of Arah
Level 80 – Fractals of the Mists

Is there a Looking For Group system ingame? (I know about www.gw2lfg.com)

As much as I know there isn’t currently.

I know that gathering/crafting can boost experience gaining. Is there a way to see the active gathering nods on the mini map?

All nods, trees and other resources can be seen on the minimap if they’ve not been taken by you.

Is there a Looking for Guild function or any other recruiting tool ingame?

As much as I know there isn’t. You have to ask around or wait for a guild to ask you.

Is there any to alter sections of the gui? For example, make name plates bigger, add numbers on them, etc

Not that I know. The most levels you make when exploring the world, doing the story and doing heart quests. If you can’t get further in a 15-25 area you can just as well journey through lions arch to another races area where you can do their 1-15 to level up.

Are there mounts in the game?

No there aren’t.

Dungeons
1. At level 30 you can do your first story dungeon. Story dungeons are mostly one time dungeons which will unlck the explorable modes for you. At levl 35 you will be able to enter the same dungeo in explorable mode which is the “Main dungeon” of that specific dungeon.
2. No
3. See above.
4. Ascalonian Catacombs(AC) 30/35
Caudecus’ Manor(CM)40/45
Twilight Arbor(TA)50/55
Sorrow’s Embrace(SE)60/65
Citadel of flame(CoF)70/75
Honor of the Waves(HotW)76/80
Crucible of Eternity(CoE)78/80
The Ruined City of Arah(Arah)80/80
5. No

Levling
1. Yes, they are the small rocks, logs and plants on the minimap. If you hover over them you can see which specific node it is.
2. No. You can use the guild sub-forum on here.
3. Not as far as I know
4. You can enter the other races’ starting zones. You will still get experience and loot matching your current level
5. No.

Bob – Four legged shapeshifter

D
1) 30lvl
2) no
3) all in one dps-ninja-dodger
4) http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dungeon
5) nope

L
1) they are marked on the mini map when you are close enough
2) no
3) no (tho you can select gui text size somewhere)
4) moving to other starting zones is safer. there is 1-15 zone for each race, you can access them via their cities, which can be accessed from LA(lions arch) waypoint hub. LA can be reached from anywhere for free, by traveling to hearts of mist and using waypoint to LA from there.

Dungeons
1) 30 for story, 35 for explorable mode
2) not really, lots of mixed opinions
3) lots of mixed opinions because any of the classes can be spec’ed into any or some combinations of those roles
4) not really sure where you are going with this. each has increasing level recommendation. the game will send you in game mail about them as you reach the appropriate level for the story mode and explorable mode is always story mode +5
5) not yet, being worked on

Leveling
1) all nodes within range will show up
2) no but there seems to be enough map chat spam in various zones to have this covered
3) not really
4) most zones have multiple entrances, it is entirely possible to enter from the “wrong” side and end up with things that are too many levels above you. there is no straight forward way to determine which is the “correct” entrance. The personal story doesn’t really help much there. One workaround is to clear all the 1-15 and then clear each new zone you enter. That will put you at equal or higher level(but you get downscaled) than the mobs all the time.

Hi Babios

I can try and answer a few of these for you:

1. Level 30 is the first dungeon. This is Ascalonian Catacombs (story mode). The first explore-able is the same dungeon at level 35.
2. No…. there are classes that are ‘more tanky’ or ‘more support’ but there is no healer class, tank class etc as such. Your tanky-ness or support abilities depend on your build rather than entirely your class
3. see 2,
4. list of the dungeons and their levels are here http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dungeon
5. Nope

Levelling:
1. yes all nodes are automatically shown on the mini map. Ores look like little metal hills, trees are little tree icons and plants look like little green plants with 3 leaves.
2. Nope, if you are looking for a guild i would suggest the guilds sub-forum on here.
3. You can alter some aspects of the gui like showing names or not, size of the UI text and such in the system menu under options
4. Yes dont assume that you need to do the maps sequentially for your race. Go to other races maps as well. For example if you have done the charr starter zone 1-15 and you are finding the 15-25 one tricky. Go to the azura start zone, or human one etc. All can be found easily by going to lions arch (from your home city through the portal) and from there you can go to every other race’s home city. Also yes follow your story, it gives nice xp and sometimes nice rewards
5. no

hope that helps

Thanks for the all the answers people, you’ve been very helpful so far. I keep forgetting the wiki, thanks Era for the reminder.

I didn’t know that i could go to the main city from the starting area city. Now that i do i will travel to other starting areas.

One other thing that might be helpful in your quest. From your questions, I get the feeling you played that other popular MMORPG that I won’t mention. So did I. But GW2 is intentionally not not like that game. So throw out your preconceptions & expectations and enjoy the ride that is GW2. Its world is beautiful. The professions are uniquely crafted, the trait system is superior to those old talent trees, the races are original, and the lore is fantastic. I hope your computer is decent because with the sliders up, you can totally just explore Tyria without killing anything and just enjoy the view. Don’t be afraid you’ll miss content either, because the auto-scaling means you can do everything everywhere in your own time and it’ll all still be relevent.

You are correct on your assumption. I am still playing WoW (sorry, i had to name it :P) but i wanted to try something completely different, so here i am. My only issue is that i always want to be prepared when i am facing something new, to make sure that i do what i have to do in the best possible way (fun-wise, that is). That’s way i came here with these questions. I can say that am enjoying my time till now in GW2 and i hope it’s gonna get better through time.
