Currently I have 46 dyes, it’s not much, but enough to sell for around 5 gold. I don’t really know what the chance of getting rare dyes are. I’m now wondering if I should sell them, use them, or keep them and keep hoarding. Any suggestions?

I’m gonna sell my stack of 100+ unidentified dyes. It’s better to sell, knowing you will earn at least a few gold than to take the risk and get kittenty dyes.

P.S.: oh yea, those kittens.

It’s up to you, but if you want a higher monetary return, it’s better to sell them. The price of Unid’ed Dyes is crazily high, so even if you were after a specific expensive dye, you’d come out ahead just selling the unid’ed ones and buying the one you want.

Personally I’m opening the unid’ed dyes I find, but that’s because I have 5 characters and I want to get a good spread of dyes on each character. If I get a duplicate, it goes to another character. When it gets to the stage that most of the dyes I’m getting are already unlocked on my characters, then I’ll switch strategies to selling instead.

I think identify>sell because anybody who buys dyes from you is either going to re-sell them or open them himself.

If you want gold then sell (since the unidentified ones are also used for legendaries), if you want more character customization then use. The chances of getting a rare is quite low and even then there are only a few ones that really sell well so opening them is like The Mystic Toilet, you gamble but the most likely outcome is that you’ll lose.

Depends what you want. I myself, I love dyes. I try to collect them all for my main, and my alts each have their own color-scheme. I never sell them, I use them all. Have even bought unID dyes at the TP because, well, I could.

Basically just ask yourself: do you want the money or do you want pretty colors?

If you just want the money I would sell. However I love the chance of getting a rare and hitting it big with that 8-10g sell (or use because I’m a sucker for a good color).

I bought 50 unid dyes when they were low and I was going to flip them. I ended up using them all lol. I think I got 2 rares that came out to about 1g =(

Most rare dyes cost 2-3 times what you would make selling an unid dye. Most uncommons are half the value of an unid dye, and most commons are less than 1/10th of an unid dye.

The drop rate on rares is a lot less than 33%, so selling is clearly the best choice, plus, after selling them, you buy whichever you want; monetary value aside, the chance of getting a dye you want is very low—I don’t use most of the dyes I have.

Of course, this runs afoul of the tragedy of the commons, whereby everybody pursuing this route would just drive up the prices as the market finds a new equilibrium.

l’m a hoarder, have 200 unidentified dyes.

I just sell Unidentified Dyes as I get them at about 10-12s a pop. Mainly because I am not interested in using Dyes at all.

I bought 5, opened them and got 1 abyss out of that.. So, depends if you are a gambling person.. Save money=sell, gamble=open…

I will identify them, then I will use them, once my main character has that dye unlocked it moves down to my second favorite (or the one who would benefit from that color).

After all of my characters are unlocked with dyes, then they have my permission to be sold.
