Two or three days ago, I bought four dye packs (800 gems, or $10) hoping for at least one decent dye. I didn’t get ANY that I liked. I was mainly hoping for a black, but I didn’t even get a dye that sold above 75s. Although I know that dye drops are “world drops”, people seem to be able to get them faster by concentrating on one area.

@ Anyone who “farms” dye, where do you get it and what level range is the area?

BTW, you do know that Black isn’t really black but more like dark grey. Midnight Ice or Abyss is better if you want a dark Black.

Anyways, if you are looking for a specific color you are better off buying it in the TP. With the humongous number of colors, the probability you will get the very one you want randomly is very very low.

If you had bought Gold with the Gems instead of the dye packs you would have done much better. You could have got the color you wanted.

But I have sold every random dye I found and just through selling my drops from normal questing and leveling I got several gold on 1 char in the first 40 levels, enough to blow 5 G on dyes. BTW Midnight Fire looks Brown not Black on some medium armor. I found out the hard way and had to blow more G to buy Midnight Ice.

That’s one of the problems. I was hoping to make more gold by getting decent dyes than I would just converting the gems to gold.

Risk didn’t equal reward, at least this time.

Random dyes I think include a “gambling” premium for the people who like to gamble. So on average they will probably be worth less opened than unopened.

It seems to me that while there are many Rare colors, only a few, usually the very Black and White hued dyes are worth much.

If you played GW1, you’d already know that. The last kill I had on GW1 was a Raptor Nestling, and it actually dropped a black dye. I wish the same luck could be brought here.

So just gather. I’m serious. Run a circuit in a 1-15 zone harvesting Copper Ore and use the BLTC “Sell It Now” feature. On a full run through the Charr starter zone, I can net around 20-25 Silver for circuit. (I think that my average circuit time is somewhere around 45 minutes or so with after the skill and trait speed boosters.) Every 24 hours, the Rich ore nodes reset and I can make a little more on a circuit. (Since I’ve got multiple characters, each one of them can take advantage of the Rich nodes within that time frame.) If you’re serious about getting a specific color, just wasted an afternoon on a weekend and grind out the Silver needed.
