Myself and a friend of mine have been communicating frequently about earning gold in this game and how to do it most effectively but so far playing the trading post seems to be the best way, now yes we can make small profit from it, but the main issue for me is that I don’t have the patients for it and i don’t feel like i’m very good at it. I like farming and i enjoy some simple grinding for gold sometimes, now i do like that this game is not a giant grind fest like a lot of other MMOs, but for example even with full magic find gear and boosters and food I only get good drops for so long before diminishing return kicks in, and for someone like me who would like to get dusk in the next month or so, i can’t seem to find an efficient way to consistently make gold, is the diminishing return only in place for bots? and if so is there a way to reset it? any suggestions for how i could be one of those people that earn 20-30 or at least 10 gold in a day without super lucky drops?
I’m not looking for any exploits or anything, but just a simple consistent way to make gold faster, without feeling like its a gamble.

Don’t think there is any other way besides buy/resell. Cursed Shore used to be a very good farming place, but since they nerfed the place in micro patches, it’s not so good anymore.

Buy up 100 unidentified dyes, and then open them all up

Sell all the abyss, black, white, gold, celestial dyes.

= profit

I went from 3g to 20g in under 2 days.

If you think this is a pump and dump, I swear by all that is (not the holy trinity) that this works. ANd i have nothing to gain from it. I don’t have dyes up for sale, nor am I driving the prices down to buy.

THis is what `I’ did to make money, and it worked extremely well for me.

Still, if only 1% of those dyes is worth a lot (2,5-3g) you already have profit. Get 1 abyss and you can fund another 200 Unidentified dyes.

More ways to make money:
Get multiple characters to max level and mine Orichalcum.

Buy high level rare items from the TP and salvage them with Black Lion Salvage Kits you happen to find by opening BL chests with keys from your storyline. (but don’t spend money/gold to buy Kits or Keys). Sell the ecto’s.

Craft Mystic Weapons with your skillpoints.

Farm certain events. Temple of Grenth is a good chain, especially if there’s not much people around so the chain eventually fails and restarts. Focus on the small Ice Elementals that die in 1-2 hits, those have a chance to drop Corrupted Lodestones worth 80s on the trading post.

Farm Arah. Spend tokens on 30-token rare items and salvage those, sell the ecto’s. Each run can net 1g+.

Buy 10k Black Lion Chests when the price is low (2-3c ea), and quickly sell when the price bumps up (15-20c). Happens sometimes and 5-10x your input is a nice profit, if you ask me.

well currently i only make about 5 gold a day on a REALLY good day. but i don’t even know a way to earn more then one gold an hour. The price of all the gear i need seems too hard to get at the rate I’ve been going, and i spend lot of time killing groups and farming shelter, but it should not take me 4 long days to be able to afford 6 superior runes of divinity for example. I know Anet has good intentions about decreasing the amount that bots make, but it shouldn’t effect the active actual players. I’m finding it way to hard right now to even earn a decent amount of gold and i am a player who refuses to spend real money on gold through other web sites or through the currency exchange.

I doubt the dyes thing works, but curious, does mf affect the dyes

you can take the blues and pop them into the mystic forge and hope to get greens.

You can take the greens and pop them in the mystic forge and hope to get yellows. You can take any non-hot selling item and pop it into the mystic forge and get another yellow. I ‘have’ gotten a black and a white dye this way.

I tested this by buying 1g worth of dyes and opening then in rapid order. My first try I got a white and a black, and had more than my fair share of my money back.

Since, I’ve clicked all the blues and green (except gold) that I don’t have, as well as many of the yellows, except the celestial, white, black abyss and midnight ice??? There is one that is pretty close to black that sells for as much as black as well.

Try it, with only a gold (around 25-30) and test your results. And if it doesn’t work for you, you’ve only lost a gold. If it works, you’ll have made a fortune. I would say it works 4/10 times…but in that 4/10 times…you’ll hit a jackpot nice enough that you’ll have made your money back and more.

I just farm Shelter and Penitent with high magic find gear and i use boosts, it seems to be helpful if you form a party to do it.

Tried the unidentified dyes, bought 112 of them. didn’t get any jackpot super expensive ones and my return was 34 silver per 1 g spent.
So out of bad luck I guess it wasn’t worth it.
For half of them I sold them back directly, for the other half I tried my luck at the forge, didn’t make a big difference.

ill tell you a way to “farm”, which is how i earn a lot of gold in WvW.(if it doesnt happen naturally, you can always make a pact with a friend so he transfers XD),its also quite fun to arrange it to meet in the map and have a 1v1 as there is no dueling in this game.
the other server builds a treb, you just go to the suply depo and repair the wall, like that for like, dunno 30mins, then you find yoursefl that defend reward is given every 2-3 minutes, assuming its 2 minutes, that makes for 15 rewards of 3s each=45s in 30 mins Xd
you have to defend a big keep or sm XD

just kidding,the real way to make gold are dungeons, if you go with a guild group, like me, you at most die 2 times or so, that is 3s on repairs, and you earn 20s per run, taken we clear em in 30-50mins explorable mode, its quite profitable, and you get the tokens to get new armor.
ofc, the most efficient way is and always will be is playing the market or farming, but i try to have fun while earning money.
about the dyes, it was like a boom upon release, now too many ppl have tried and prices have gone down, so its not all that reliable any more.

^ AC gives you 26s for completing + 15s loot from the boss. That’s 41s without selling anything you have got. 1,23g for completing all 3 explorable routes, + drops.

Yeah, dungeons are the way to go. My guild runs AC in 15-20 minutes (still in search of the DR limit), during that run we use the food that gives +30% MF and +40% gold from monsters. So we get 26s (run completion) + 1.4*15s (from end boss) + 1.4*5s (from the champion [gold] mini boss) = 54s every 15-20min plus drops.

I buy my gold with a credit card. It’s simple, you just press O, click "Buy gems", click how many gems you want, and put in your information. Then, you go down to the "Currency Exchange" tab, and type in how many gems you want to get gold for.

Using this method, just wait for a holiday spike, when the gem/gold rate is highest, because your real world money will always be the same value to A-net.
