I cant decide between Ele or Necro, please help on your preferences and pros and cons.

necro is more fun trust me i got bout to lvl 80 ele is way harder to be played but in pvp they kill me preaty faster then necro + minions + drain life + milion curses shadow form lich form and so on darknes wins xD

I prefer ele with a d/d build. Lots of combos and control skills. Very fun to play.

Haven’t played Necro, but I’m not that impressed with Ele. The D/D build which everyone says is dynamic and fun turned out to be pretty one-note. You kind of just spam keys and try to keep your character near the target as best you can. You could probably make a macro to play it for you. Scepter is far more engaging, but far more useless because the skills are just so awful. Staff is very straightforward and awful because the skills just don’t have any synergy. You’re auto-attacking all day and occasionally dropping an AE on the ground that no one is dumb enough to sit in.

I have both. I prefer the Necro far above the Ele. If it weren’t for my Ele having 400 Jewelcrafting and 375 Tailoring she’d be gone.

Ele with daggers is dodge,roll, dodge. roll and limp away trying not to get hit.

Necros with a higher base health Pool than most Warriors and Guardians are far more durable. Also with Death Shroud you effectively have two health bars rather than just one. Necros also have in their heal slot an ability to consume conditions (poisons, bleeds) which are a favorite attack of many NPC’s and players. So you can remove those conditions and survive longer. Actually the more conditions you have on yourself the greater the heals (unless you’re interrupted).
An easy test of this (how much base health they have) is to create a new character and as soon as you introductory quest is finished, go to the Heart of the Mists by clicking the crossed swords icon (PvP) at the top of your screen. You can then look at the health pool of your Necro, should be around 26,000 HP points. Ele is around 16,000.
This game is all about survivability and I can often tank bosses right along with Warriors and Guardians and outlast them, coupled with 3k attack and 51% crit I’d say that’s not too shabby.

I consider Ele to be the most versatile of the two. I am not a necro expert, but from what I have seen, necros tend to go condition/Minion Master or something along those lines.

Ele D/D is my favorite to run while ninjaing in WvW or soloing in PvE. Focus ele can be VERY efficient in wvw for protection, and Ele staff can hold off zergs in wvw.

The cantrips of the Ele are very useful, especially Mist Form and Lightning Flash (Blink).

So I’d say (this is opinion and my vast experience with Ele), Ele is the most fun, due to its versatility and how fun it is to play.

It depends. In my experience, the Ele requires a much more active style of play no matter what build you play, simply because they are more squishy.
You can play the Necro actively, too, especially if you go for daggers, but they can take a lot more damage.

Ele is definitely more versatile, but I just love running into ~5 undead with my necro, dropping my wells, my staff and scepter/dagger AoEs and hitting f1 followed by 4. Not much mopping up left to do after that
And I can just stand there, taking the hits. And the conditions.

…I’m lazy. I just enjoy the necro so much more ^^

Play ele if you are into serious twitch gaming with having to use 2 or 3x as many hotkeys as any other class. I have a setup I use for all my characters on my keyboard to re-assign certain keys (i hate using F keys) like F1 is C etc. My 80 ele is the only class I cannot share the setup with, it has way too many things I have to constantly do, and since keybinds are not character specific, but rather account, I just dont feel like redoing them everytime, so my ele collects alot of dust. Sucks too since I have both abyss and celestial and a dozen other rare dyes on him

My Necro is only lvl 20, my lowest lvl char in game, but I do enjoy playing it, I have found leveling is rather static autoattacking with daggers because lets face it, its the most efficient. But I am sure it gets more interesting later without needing 16 fingers and a nostromo.

I have both….I also prefer the Necro over the Ele. I use scepter / dagger & staff in a condition build & wells. Lots of aoe’s and a faster aoe cast speed than the ele. Just a fun class to play.

Although necro is my main so I might be a little biased, I have also played ele to 80 and put a lot of time into it and I will say I did not like ele at all compared to my necro. Like some people mentioned, even D/D ele is mostly just button-mashing and dodging constantly, with my necro I can get creative with my fights, even tank some, and do massive amounts of damage over larger crowds than my ele ever could. Even in pvp, while sometimes I killed faster on ele, it wasn’t fun, it was downright boring. Same rotation every single time. The only upside to ele I found was going a support role, I did enjoy that a good bit. But necro all the way, if you have the walnuts for it haha

Create a Necro, kill an Ele, then raise it as a pet to fight for you.

Button mashing implies a certain random and thoughtlessness. If you are playing your ele like that I can see why you might not like it.

When your rotations are the same boring rotations everytime there’s no better way to describe it, don’t assume you know my skill level just because of the way I worded something. Ele is boring for me plain and simple, if you enjoy it, then more power to you.

Depends on what you like. I tried to like Necro and the Necro I have started is one of my oldest characters, but is only level 31. I’ve made 4 80s, and a 46 with no desire to play my Necro at all.

In summary, you should probably try both, because they favour very different playstiles

Just make both, jump into sPvP and mess around with some different traits/weapons/builds etc.

However, I prefer ele. I love the fast pace action. You do have a pretty set combo upon entering combat, but after that it’s kinda up to you. I usually hit all my fire skills then pop to earth for the combo area might, either go to water/air depending on where my or my teams health is at and hit around till I start over at fire.

Eles are fantastic aoe. You won’t have any issue hitting/tagging mobs in events. That being said, it’s the same for necros. Eles are a little more sought after in dungeons for the combo fields and the conjure weapons (especially AC).

I think the main difference between the two is that eles require fast paced attention that’s up close while necros you can sit back a little bit more and be comfortable at range.

Both have high defense/survivability and the ability to tag lots of mobs w/ aoes.
