So I’ve been seeing a lot of posts about ele’s being bad dps, weak, squishy, etc. And though I do agree with the squishy part, we are by no means weak. I personally believe we have the best burst in the game.

For PvP the way i go about it is to embrace our glass cannon capabilities, and go full berserker gear (Power, Precision, Crit damage) with a scepter and dagger.

Air attunement is generally the main attunement I’m in and pretty much open with a ride the lightning, into a lighting strike, arcane blast and arcane wave all at the same time. This should either kill that straight off (Lower geared WvW players) or put them at like 30-50% hp, so you go into an updraft to knock them back and INSTANTLY switch to fire spec and dragons tooth with a phoenix thingy (3), running up to them with a fire blast just incase. My other ability is Mist form for those oh kitten moments when a warrior throws his bolas at you, and the hounds of balthazar as my elite (They hit for a hellovalot). Though if you don’t have hounds then whack on the elemental

If there are still more people i just switch back to air and start lightning stiking, blinding, arcane blasting, etc. (Also i take the Superior Sigil of Air in the scepter…it’s quite powerful, especially with the crit spam from our channelled lightning spell

Most of my PvPing consists of running around with my Mesmer friend in WvW finding small groups of people to fight, or hanging around their spawn, and we find we can easily take on 3 or so 80’s or 5-6 scaled players

I realise this isn’t really an in-depth overview, it’s just me sharing my tactic for 1v1’s or 1v2-3’s, and I hope it helped at least a little.

(Just a little plea, PLEASE give elementalists something to stall people downing us…we have a root thing that works on one person, just doesn’t stop them downing us, and a mist form that takes like 10 seconds to come off CD when we get downed :‘( It’s quite harsh)

Thanks for the WvW tips! Now to find a Mesmer friend ^^

I must say, I got all happy thinking this was a thread dealing with Elementalists in sPvP. ):

And yes, not to mention that the downed entanglement doesn’t even actually entangle them half the time. Sometimes they just continue walking towards my corpse with the earth churning at their feet. -.-

Yeah I know that feel bro, I’m gonna get down to trying sPvP, I just don’t find it as interesting as WvW.

Good tips for scepter/dagger but dagger/dagger is kitten in pvp. Dagger damage needs to be increased. Using daggers With the amount of micromanagement needed and as squishy cloth wearing melee, we should be on par with thief dps. I feel penalized for being melee, when in fact we should be out dpsing range for the risk of being in close combat. Pve is ok but far lacking in pvp compared to other classes in melee combat.

What’s so good about Dagger/Dagger? I’ve heard people mention it a lot, but i never saw the appeal :/

Wouldn’t say it’s good rather just personal preference. I find it fun to play and faster pace then sittingback lobbing fireballs from hard to reach places in pvp. It’s challenging to say the least because of the micromanagement between all attunments and moving at the same time just to stay alive against other melee. To be on par with other classes using all attunments with points in earth and water is required, which ends up lowering dps and becoming subpar to other classes.

I personally believe we have the best burst in the game.

You should check out the Brady Games Strategy guide… I got bored at work last night and glanced (as in didn’t look at all professions/stats) through it.

When gearless at level 80 Engineer has base Power of 9XX

When gearless at level 80 Elementalists and Guardians have base Power of 1216

When gearless at level 80 Necromancers have a base Power of 17XX and a base Toughness and Vitality of 15XX

Contrary to yourself I kept seeing threads posting the Ele’s are OP and need a bit nerfing, to which I ask just what is a Necro then? In addition to those huge stats they get as a base they have access to the death shroud which is essentially a second health bar if used right.

I still love my Ele – but I’m supposed to be the glass cannon not some class that’s already impossible to kill and has a dozen minions all the time. They need to up the base for Ele or something…

Except necros are supposed to be tanky casters….

That’s exactly my point, tanky builds aren’t supposed to overpower glass cannons yet they do. Something needs to change.

It’s fast pace and a pretty dynamic build to play. Here’s a video of a game I played the other day. Please ignore the auto correct from youtube, there’s just a bunch to like about 2xD.
