Guild Wars 2

Ive narrowed down to 2 mains, Ele or engineer. I haven’t gotten far in the game at all so im looking for something good down the road, for dungeons, wvw and pvp? I like the engineers slot skills but I don’t like the few weapons available. Ele love the aoe, dps and the versatility but feels kinda squishy.

Neither class have weapon swapping. Elementalists have different attunements and Engineers have kits.

Playing an Ele entails constantly rotating through all the elements to use skills that aren’t on cooldown. Their survivability comes from their traits, mainly self heals from Water and Arcane trait lines. There is very little variation to their builds right now. Most are based around X/X/X/10/20 or X/30/X/X/20.

Engineers can have radically different playstyles, depending on what kits you load up and traits you invest in.

Ele = rotations
Eng = on demand skills

Eng has more viable builds as well.

I find eng to be by far the most class to WvW/PvP with. PvE… I don’t really care too much about personally.

Both can be excellent classes and it really comes down to your personal preferences and what would fit you better.

And Elementalists aren’t all squishy. Guild mate of mine is an Ele and the biggest tank I know. 2900 toughness.

Few? Flamethrower, elixir gun, wrench+shield, bomb kit, grenade kit – and all of them FREE

2900 toughness or 2900 armor? I’m pretty sure 2900 toughness is nigh impossible.

I’m biased (80 eng and decided to do the Asura race stories as an eng as well) and will say Engineer.

I loved mesmer but I couldn’t put down my engineer. So much viability. I always avoided FT but once I started chucking fireballs from the end of the barrel, I was hooked.

Well, he did tell me 2900 toughness one night. But now that you mention it, I don’t think that is achieveable. He probably was talking about armor.
