Elementalist or Mesmer
You have them, play them in sPvP. You find out exactly how they are at 80 with equipment. I myself don’t pvp but have had a huge amount of fun on both of them.
Thx for a reply
I tried that. But from what I understand, sPvP is a bit different than WvW enviroment. I will sPvP only occasionaly, and would like to focus more on roaming
Ok, mesmers movement speed is slow. They have off-hand focus as a speed buff and that is about it. If you want to roam a large area and catch other players an ele might be your option.
I have both of those professions at 80 and I love both of them, but for different ways. They both have relatively high skill caps, especially for the pure shatter Staff/GS builds that are difficult to use (Although PU condition is a fun and effective roaming build for mesmer that is easier to excel with).
As far as ele goes, they fields and AoEs they provide with staffs are crucial to zergs while the D/D builds offer a great blend of damage and survivability and are tough, but not too tough to play, and are great for roaming and have lots of point blank AoEs to excel in group fights. Overall mesmer is better for 1v1 for phantasm builds and PU builds, while the shatter and PU builds are also great for team fights, their main weakness in Tpvp anyway is their inability to safely fight on point. Zergs also love mesmers for strategic things with veil, portal, mass invis, and reflection.
So my overall suggestion to you is to level and use both of them! That will be more work and more endgame gear to acquire, but you will be glad that you have a different class to play when you feel like it.
Taking a break from GW2 to play various
Nintendo games..
Thank you all for replies guys, you are great
I´m probably leaning more to the elementalist. While I like mesmer playstyle, I really miss those AoEs, that ele can provide
I think the majority of advice is about spot on. But you mentioned you’re a former pvp player and enjoy roaming / 1v1 activities. I have both mesmer (my main) and an ele. Put simply, if you like to actually win 1v1’s 70-90% of the time (wvw/pvp)….Mesmer all the way. If you enjoy playing a support role for thankless zergs (surely, you like supporting hammer warriors…?) Not that ele’s can’t excel at 1v1, but you will work and work hard for it. JMHO.

Lol´d hard at that picture
Okay, let´s try it from different perspective. For outnumbered situations, is mesmer better than ele?
Considering a Mesmer can generate 3 more copies of themselves to “even the score” a bit, I’d say it’s highly likely. Despite what you would think, it’s quite difficult to find the real Mesmer in the heat of battle when they are cranking out Clones one after another.
Fate is just the weight of circumstances
That’s the way that lady luck dances
Honestly? In general, no. Ele’s have on-demand swiftness when needed or attunement change to air (if traited) and can simply ride the lightening + swiftness or mistform, away to safety, to heal and fight another day. Mesmer’s go down valiantly, PU won’t get you far (enough), by the time it takes to cast veil—your down. The problem being outnumbered is their AOE takes out your clones/phants too quickly. Portal/blink/Prestige can work, but you gotta be spot on timing. Again, JMHO.
Edit: I suppose we should define what is outnumbered for a Mesmer. 1v2 or even 1v3 is not really outnumbered. I’ve seen some of the great players even attack 5-7 players and take them. It’s rough 1v4+ though simply because of the cool-downs.

For me – personally – even 1v2 count as “outnumbered”
so if it possible even if opponents are not really bad, than it is far enough for me to choose mesmer
