Elementary Controlls I need help.
Regarding turning around. If you want to do a 180, there is an “about face” you can bind to they key of your choice.
Why would you only use your keyboard? That just makes you handicapped.
As Neural said, you can keybind a button to turn you 180’ around :x
I first started this game using nothing but my keyboard for pvp. Well that worked great until I wanted to turn around. When you try to turn with a keyboard you look like a one legged kitten it takes forever, yet in a full run if you use a mouse then you can turn on a dime. The problem I am having is when I want to use my mouse I cannot find an appropriate button for my 1 skill that will allow me full control of my movement and the ability to use the skill at the same time. I’ve come to the conclusion that this game has the most elementary control system and needs an update bad. Of all the mmo’s on the market this problem only exists here.
Your 1 skill?
Out of 99% of the MMO’s out there GW2 is one of the few that uses an active combat system compared to a probability combat system. So you can’t really compare them.
Like people have said: There is an about-face action that you can bind.
Using just your keyboard would handicap yourself drastically especially in PVP. Mouse and Keyboard is standard as it makes it easier to select targets and selecting skills to combo. Having both keys on the keyboard will allow you to press all the skills but at the same you lose mobility.
There is no way to fix this on an active combat game. Try playing a shooter on the computer without a mouse or gamepad. Both are using active combat systems.
If you do not know what I mean by active combat system it is a system where accuracy and damage migration is determined by the players rather than a probability system. Basically, the degree in which you get hit is based on your actions rather than what is determined outside of your power.

Take a lesson from ESO, Tera, DCUO, Darkfall. These games have mouse based combat and allow the user full control of the character while letting them spam abilities without being hindered. WOW, Rift, SWTOR all have the ability to use nothing but the keyboard and have full control over your character. This game fails at this by not allowing you to customize your mouse buttons. Again I ask the question how do I use the 1 skill and get full movement? Since I enjoy pvp I need to be constantly using this skill and its just not worth playing this game like this.

All of them you mentioned are using a different style of combat system. Your comparing apples to oranges here. WoW is a probability combat system which means you could play it without a mouse. Aion is also a probability combat system so you can play it without a mouse. Rift based on videoes on youtube (since i never played it) is also a probability system. Tera based on videos on youtube (since i never played it as well) is also having elements of a probability system.
The only game that has a similar combat system from what I seen in videos is Wildstar. So if you haven’t played that one you can’t really compare.

You still haven’t stated what your one skill that your using is. I have no problem at all using my skills and controlling my movement. This is sounding more of a L2P issue rather than simplified controls issue. You can not change the bindings on the 2 mouse buttons because they are necessary buttons to play this game. Holding your right mouse button down allows you to control your movement and activate skills.
As well out of the all the games you mentioned movement is not as necessary as it is in GW2. In GW2 if you standstill your dead especially in WvW and PVP. In the games you mentioned movement is helpful in reducing damage taken but is not a necessary component to learn at the start.
When GW2 was in beta and just released the biggest learning curve people had to overcome from other games is that you couldn’t stand still and take all the hits from the enemy (in any game mode). You just don’t stand there while a wolf hits you (especially if your a zerker).

If you have forward and back buttons on your mouse, combine your skills to them.
Use:
ctrl + button
shift + button
middle mouse + button
doing so will allow you to move freely without taking a finger off WSAD or left and right click on the mouse which I highly recommend you use for camera movement.
GW2 has the same set up as every other MMO I’ve played; I can’t really think of a way to change it since it is no different than any shooter out there. Cameras and movements linked to them belong on the mouse.
GW2’s combat is more dynamic than any of the games you listed. WoW you can use just a keyboard because you basically just stand in one place and spam skill rotations. GW2 has dodging and telegraphed aoe and heavy movement.
Also, I don’t even understand your plight. Use the mouse to turn but you can’t then use your other hand to press keyboard buttons? Are you handicapped (serious question)? If so, try a gaming mouse like the Naga Razor. It has a ton of programmable buttons so you can essentially use only your mouse if necessary. But any mouse can have its buttons bound. My 2 thumb buttons are mapped to my 6 & 7 for instance.

If you use WASD for moving try binding the ‘1’ skill to your shift key. It’s right there under your left pinky finger when you have your fingers over those keys. I use “A” and “D” for strafe, “W” and “S” for forward and backwards and mouse to turn. It is very natural and easy to use the “1” skill while on the move with it bound to the shift key.
The problem I am having is when I want to use my mouse I cannot find an appropriate button for my 1 skill that will allow me full control of my movement and the ability to use the skill at the same time.
what’s wrong with the number keys? 1-5 are easy enough to hit even while moving in combat.
if that’s a problem for you, I’d recommend trying a gaming mouse. the G600 is especially great as you can map all 10 skills+4 f-skills.

Anyone know software available so I can set my mouse to press keystrokes? I’m not buying a 60$ mouse to play this game I’ll just buy ESO and call it a day. I would like to assign my LMB to press number 1 when I use it and vice versa I would like to press 1 and it would emulate my LMB.

If you have a standard mouse without extra buttons how many keystrokes do you expect it to make? As I said in response to your wanting to use WASD to move and use skill “1” ,key bind it to shift. Problem solved. It is right there by your pinky finger.

I’m curious as to how you think this would improve your QoL while playing. I mean, your inventory management would be horrendously difficult. Have fun salvaging, moving items, clicking text boxes in the TP/chat, adjusting any options in the settings. Also, were you planning on only ever tab-targeting instead of click targeting, ‘cause I think you’d end up running into the same issues while fighting a thief/mesmer with lots of stealth when you need to retarget them quickly as they pop in/out of stealth.
Try binding skill 1 to [Space] and you can spam it with your thumb while doing whatever else you want wrt moving/strafing/jumping (rebind jump to [Shift] or [Alt])

Mouse 1, 2 and the scroll wheel are locked, nothing you can do about it.
sounds like this isn’t the kind of game for your rigid requirements, good luck with eso.

This is why you want LMB to be the LMB and not the 1 key. Sure he could technically do it but it would be horrible experience more so than just clicking 1 when he needs to lol. I am not sure he knows that there is an autoattack funtion on 1 and that he doesn’t need to keep pressing it.

hrm the 1 skill autoattacks? you better not be wasting my time
I think the problem here is that no-one understands what you mean by the ‘1 skill’
There are weapon skills keybound to the 1-9 buttons on the keyboard by default.
There are movement, targeting and utility skills bound to other keyboard buttons. All of these can be re-bound to other keys.
The mouse buttons left/middle/right control the camera and character steering and also allow forward movement. These can’t be unbound.
Mouse steering is normally done by holding down the mouse left button and moving forward using the keyboard. Or you can hold down both mouse buttons at once, which also moves you forward as you steer.
Personally, I don’t ever turn with the keyboard (or move backwards for that matter). I just strafe and mouseturn.
When I want to attack – I just press the appropriate keyboard button.
The only minor difficulty is that mouse left can also be used to select targets, which can be difficult if you want to turn at the same time, especially with ground targeting – I rarely use it that way in this game, preferring to use tab-targeting. (There is a target nearest enemy function which is unbound by default – that’s extremely handy)
All games have problems of that sort, one way or another – it just isn’t possible to control a humanoid avatar adequately using such simple controls.
I assume by “the 1 skill” the OP means the first attack skill, which by default is bound to key 1.
First things first: Your first attack skill is an auto-attack, you do not need to keep pressing it.
You only need to press it once and then your character will keep using that skill until you do something else or your target is dead. It will also activate automatically if you use another attack skill and then don’t make your character do anything else. (For example if you target an enemy and press 3 your character will use skill 3, then start using skill 1 repeatedly until your target is dead or you do something else.)
You can also set it (using the options menu) so if you right click an enemy your character will start auto-attacking them.
There are a few rare exceptions (for example if you play an engineer and use a grenade kit it’s a ground targeted skill and therefore cannot auto-attack).
You can also change your auto-attack to any other attack skill (1-5). But it’s generally not a good idea to change it because most of the other skills have longer cooldowns (or higher initiative cost for thieves) and if it’s recharging your character will just stand there instead of attacking.
Changing your mouse button bindings really depends on the mouse. The game doesn’t allow you to do this because the right button is the only way you have full control of the camera and the left button is context-sensitive and does a lot of different things so it would be a bad idea to unbind either of them.
But some mice (including normal 3 button mice) do allow you to do that. I recommend checking your mouse manufacturers website to see if they have any software you can download that lets you change the button functions. (Although even then some, Logitech for example, don’t allow you to completely remove left and right click. You have to have something that functions as a left click or right click, because otherwise you could accidentally disable the mouse completely.)
