I wanted to ask to make sure I have something right before I throw a 100gs at it, in order to get the Emperor’s clothes achievement we have to buy 18 pieces of cultural armor for every race. These pieces can be heavy, medium, or light, but there must be 6 from each tier. You can’t buy them for two different characters of the same weight on the same tier, because they must be unique. That is pretty easy to understand. What I want to make sure of is that the skins are unlocked along with the achievement when we BUY the item, not when we are of a level to wear it. I tested this theory out on two different characters by buying their armor at a low level, soulbinding said armor, and then deleting the character. The pieces still show up in the collection boxes even though the character never wore the piece and was deleted before they ever could wear it. I am asking this because I want the achievement, but I have no desire to level Norns or Sylvari past their story achievements, so these characters will not last past their level 30 personal stories. I am willing to suck it up and purchase this expensive armor, but I want to make sure I will get the achievement even though I am not keeping the characters long enough to ever wear it/

these items are solbound on buy, so when you purchase it, you’ll get a little pop up on top of your mini map, meaning it was unlocked in the warderobe forever without wearing it.

What Oxidia said. The skins unlock permanently when you buy the item, regardless of the class you buy them on.

Before you throw money at it, I think the 18 skin is only for the first tier of the achievement. For the mastery point, I think you have to buy ALL the cultural skins. So if you’re doing it for the whole tier of the achievement (and for the mastery point), it will take a lot of money.

at least google before spreading false information. 18 per race and that’s it. Light, medium or heavy, it doesn’t matter. Just have a whole set of that tier. Not sure if you can mix and match tiers but i’m sure it’s possible also.

18 skins per race. You can use single char to buy for example light armor sets of tier 1, tier 2 and tier 3. Which costs more gold. Or you can use 3 different chars of same race to buy light set, medium set and heavy set of tier 1. Cheaper but you need to manage alts.

The Emperor’s New Wardrobe achievement and mastery point are unlocked once you have unlocked 18 skins in every race, 90 in total.

Once you got 18 unlocked, you can still buy 36 more skins for that race but those will not contribute toward any achievements. Its just for the skins.

Every piece you buy will be unlocked in inventory but it is still locked to only that race. So if you buy Norn armors, your Asura alts will not be able to wear them. So these skins are double-locked, you have to be able to wear that same type of armor (light, medium or heavy) and be same race too. For example you have Ascended Light chest piece and your Asura character wears it and now you apply Savant Coat skin on that armor, if you now change to your Norn character with Light armor, you can not wear that ascended armor piece because it is bound to Asura race only.

Huh. Perhaps the wiki needs to be changed then. I did google but this is what I found from the wiki :

The cultural armor achievements require purchasing one piece of each armor type (headgear, shoulders, chest, gloves, leggings, boots) at each of the three tiers. This costs 128 Gold coin 98 Silver coin for a single race and 644 Gold coin 90 Silver coin for all five races.

If you can do with 18 tier 1 of each race, well it’s much better then!

You need to purchase all 90 cultural armors for the mastery point and the title. The one spreading misinformation is you. It’s a very expensive mastery point, costing 644G and 90S unfortunately.

You know you’re actually saying the same thing? As Oxidia said, you need 18 per race (6 from each tier), which, as MoarChaos said, works out as 90 overall.

Yes, you have to purchase 90 armor pieces to complete the title. However, there are more than 90 cultural armor pieces available for purchase; you only have to buy head, shoulders, chest, gloves, legs, and boots from each tier for each race. You don’t have to buy all three sets for each tier for each race.

Just tested this. Haven’t unlocked the whole achievement, but I figured out you can’t count multiple weights of the same tier of armor. So, you need to unlock 18 for each race, and those 18 must be six pieces from each tier. So I can unlock the cheapest set of medium charr armor, and add 6 to the number of skins unlocked towards The Emperor’s New Wardrobe. However, if I start buying tier 1 heavy charr armor, it doesn’t add to the achievement. If you look on the individual racial achievements it lists tier 1 head, shoulders, coat, gloves, pants, boots, then the same for tier 2 and 3 without specifying weight.

EDIT: Oh, I see this is what you were saying, Rose, it just didn’t make sense to me until I tested it. Hopefully together we’ll clear up the confusion…

I am nearly finished with this title. I have 5 pieces left for tier 3 char and 4 pieces left to get for tier 3 sylvari.
I made a char character just for this purpose, they are level 2 hahaha. I just bought heavy armor in tier 1, tier 2 and only started on tier 3. I have done this with all races, but only ever purchased one ‘type’ pertaining to the character I am using to purchase it with, as I am only unlocking the skin while wanting the title, I sell the item back to the merchant. But I still need to make just over another 100g to finish it off, and when I do I will delete my char because I never liked them LOL

I didn’t dislike Norn until I played one, they just aren’t for me. I didn’t expect to like Charr, either, but I absolutely adore my male Charr rev. I now say I am a male Charr stuck in a human female body ..lol. He isn’t my main because he isn’t tanky enough for me, but I love him and I would definitely take him raiding! I do not care much for Sylvari, but I might change my mind after I level one up for the achievements. That is my next character. I am leveling up the ones I don’t want to keep for the fashion and racial story achievements and then deleting them. I just don’t want to have to level a norn twice because I didn’t buy the armor the way it was supposed to be bought. Thanks for your input
