..being a cynical forecaster.
..being a doom-monger….and being a hopeless jinxer.
So gf and I recently maxed our first characters, mine was a mesmer, and she wants to roll a different one to try em out. I’ve filtered it down to these two. I’ve been scouring and sort of researching but I’m still not sure which one to go with.
I was thinking that I’d use Mesmer for dungeons/roaming WvW and, whichever wins between engi or necro for zerg and/or maybe dungeons as well. Problem is I don’t have any experience with WvW or most of the dungeons yet either. From what I’ve been reading (nothing definitive so far) engis are good support but a little below than necro damage(?) while necros have good dps but just spam in zerg wvw but aren’t too desirable in dungeons(?). So yea, I’m stuck and need some convincing on which :c
Thanks for any help !
My two favorite professions, very hard decision. I do know though I’ve been able to keep playing my Necro longer, and do enjoy him a bit more. I’m also just obsessed with Necromancer period, kinda rare in games.
I love my engi, <3 all those blasts make for great setups and you can run such a nice jack-of-all-trades build ^^
necro
.. They are so much fun to play. :P
“I am death in incarnate”, mwuhaha.. ]:P
While I typically say no necro/engie in my dungeons, I’d undoubtedly rather have a skilled engie if I had to choose; more blasts, might, vulnerability stacking. Meanwhile, necros are a fairly selfish class that doesn’t amass much in the way of party buffs.
I think Engineer is the more versatile and more interesting class, if you enjoy the building aspect of professions and analysing traits etc. Necros, for me, are more fun. If you want to run zergs, both are viable provided you have the right builds, but Necros offer less in the way of support to anyone else you may be playing with than Engies do.
I don’t understand, I have a Necro and just about every Skill, including every skill with your staff is some kind of Party Buff/Heal.
Necro are powerful but Usually ppl are using it for Condition Damage which is bad for dungeon but great in sPvP or WvW in small fight. There is also the Necro Powermancer that is a good for Dungeon but not run by most Necro (this is why necro are usually see as second class citizen in dungeon). Like i said in sPvP and small fight WvW fight Necro are real beast but can be hard to master so you gonna need to put some time to make it work. For large zerg in WvW they are also good because of their aoe in general but especially for aoe Weakness. (I don’t really run Necro so i’m not up to date. I think that AoE Weakness had been nerf in the 10th December path, but i’m really not sure).
Engineer with kits almost as versatile as Elementalist and they also have the best AoE Condition Damage of the game (only because they can stack huge, constant Vulnerability, buffing the party DPS). They are ok in Dungeon, but need some experience with them to be good. That and the fact that less people like the modern look of the engineer explain the reason why its not on the best profession in PvE. In sPvP you can do a great job with it. In WvW its a great roamer profession and can do the job in a zerg. Its good everywhere but excel in nothing (except maybe AoE Vulnerability).
Let her try out both – I know I have trouble surviving on my low lvl engi, whereas necros can actually tank quite a bit of damage.
Alright, might go with engi since gf wants to roll with thief and I know thieves are squishy and need support, I guess engi provides that more. That and after researching end game, I think having a med and light armored class instead of 2 light armor classes would be better xD Thanks guys !
Hope you like your Engineer!! Normally I choose magic users, and it took me a little while to get used to the Engineer at first, but she’s stolen my heart. As previously stated, very versatile and jack-of-all-trades like.
Sometimes engineers can really surprise you in mobs.
I dont mean to be pushy, please learn your healing turret as soon as you can. After you got it please learn how to “combo the turret with itsself:” its the best healing tool while you lvl up. Ofc when you get to 80 it depends on your build but for now, your turret is your best friend.
The combo is: place healing turret, overcharge it so it releases a water combo field, detonate turret to make a blast finisher and in turn blast the water feild healing you and your allies ^ ^

Neat, thanks for the tips
