Expansion?
Expansion most likely means Cantha or Elona, which BOTH have amazing maps and the potential to have amazing storylines.
Also, they don’t understand that temporary new content is the equivalent of every month having month-long holiday content which is meant to sate their new content thirst.
There will always be naysayers.
No one knows exactly what will be in an expansion, but most people are probably expecting it to be similar to other MMO expansions (GW1 in particular) which would mean some combination of the following:
- A significant new storyline, probably going after another dragon
- Large new areas, upwards of about 1/3 the current playable area
- New playable races
- New professions
- Possibly an increase in the level cap
- New PvP modes
- New endgame content like extra/harder dungeons or something like GW1s elite missions
- Possibly new skills/weapons
- Probably at least one new mode/mechanic, like when Factions added, well, factions to GW1 with the ability for guilds to form alliances and earn points to be rewarded with control of a town, or when Nightfall added heroes.
And of course new armor and weapon models, and a whole bunch of new content along the lines of what we’ve already got – dynamic events, heart quests, jumping puzzles, dungeons etc. etc.

I am not going against you at this, but PvP is probably out of the question, I mean, it fells like they made dragon ball for saying “we can do deathmatch etc, we just aint going to do it, because its not unique”. Or something…..But its all expectations, which probably are not comming up since it go against what Anet stands for…..
So is the endgame mechanics.
Its not that I dont have faith in Arena Net, because we all know that i dont, but mostly because people are supporting a idea that even can go well, or really bad, instead of progressing through, they are just making statements thakittens going to be a totally new amaizing game, that can only leads toward good things, even thoug we all know it gets pretty bad if/when they dont make as huge of a difference as we would like them to do. (which is daaaaaamn huge.)
I mean, if we look at it at it normaly, it would probably only be a update throug the PvE system, new dungeons, probably not hardere than the usual, and i will maybe accept the idea for a new class, because that water creature with wings we see in the story. Beside that, i really dont see anything else comming up beside a few more dragons, which probably will replace some of the boring once? hopefully a real dragon fight….with like 100 npces instead of a flyieng bug with some lasers on the side as the end boss?……hoping
*btw, the i dont got faith in arena net was a joke……Probably the best devs in any game ive tried so far.
No offence at all, but if we actually see this realisticly, why should/how should Arena Net put something up that wasnt on the normal game, even thoug they had alot of chances to change that. I mean, its like shoting for the stars, becomming that star takes a long time, with alot of progression, it cant just be a star out from nothing.
Again, I like that people are expecting that, but wishing for something Arena Net almost clearly can make as a monthly event, but choose not to do so, is just a false hope. (not all of it, but like a PvP map/new gameplay)
a lot of people are blindly assuming we go to Cantha or Elona for expansions just cause the gw1 capaigns (not expansions) where there. This is however just an assumption. I personally don’t think we go there yet. There are still many area’s in Tyria uncovered (Elon river, crystal dessert, Deldrimor front, Far shiverpeaks, char homeland, Maguuma Waste, Magus falls, etc.)
I think it is to be expected that we go there first. Specially in the direction of the crystal dessert there are indications that they have plans (the gates at ebonhawk, the presence of an elder dragon there) to let us visit that.
But an expansion means there will be new maps to explore and new storylines to discover.
There are also people hoping on a new class or a new playable race. I expect that they put a new race in and not a new class. The reason is that they are allready covering all desirable playstyles and there is a reasonable good balance between the classes. Adding one would only be more of the same. A playable race is more likely.
Bottom line however is that it is all speculation. There are officially no plans for an expansion. Even though NCsoft (the publisher) leaked some information (second half of this year) the official arenanet response is not changed. They are looking into possible future expansions, but there are no concrete plans. From there on it’s just making assumptions and speculations.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!

Yeah, even thoug I havent been part of Gw1 or know this place everyone is excited about, I hope it gets as good as people want it to be, even thoug they do this, wont it be a part of the dragon nation land (like orr)? even thoug they made a story, it would make conflicts either way, previous story update, where its basecly the same but starts from the last quest or a whole new story, where we have to start over from a new perspective. Tbh, I can see them put more than 1 race up, and a few classes. But it will get just as boring.
I actualy can see how bad it can go, if/when people dont get their hopes out, I mean, we all know that Arena Net is one of thoese companies that does alot of stuff, the sad part is that they dont want to put something we want in, like deathmatch…..i seriously want that -.- But I dont know if it goes against what they believe in, they like to be unique all the time, wich can be fun sometimes, but all the time, its just annoying. Wich we can see, the Dungeon that is put out now is a hit, not because of the unique traps, people would rather avoid thoese from the start, but because it is challanging and somehow say that we need to commit, and not just go in press all buttons, and get a reward. Even thoug we know what to do, it isnt boring.
The conclusion is that Gw2 might want to be unique all the time, but if people is expecting alot of normal stuff which is really needed in this game, and Arena Net doesnt go throug with that, we will just be more dissapointed. Especially if they remove something like CoF or fractals/alot of dragons, and got hopes that they dont need them since they want to be 100% unique.
Not wanting to burst anyone’s bubble but nonetheless…
Doesn’t rule out expansions entirely but if they ever do happen it likely won’t be for quite a while.
