I have a lvl 80 thief. Right now, I want to explore HoT. However, I am dying a lot. I feel that thief is too unforgiving of mistakes I make when exploring. For example, when I accidentally pulled 3 enemies while trying to find a Hero Point challenge, I died almost instantly. They weren’t even those group event type monsters that pack a punch. And this happened repeatedly.

Is there a profession that can survive better than thief? I just want to explore HoT without feeling frustrated by dying so easily.

I have already done some searching and most point me to Necromancer and Ranger. However, I would rather not play them since I am not a fan of pet and death themed classes. I was thinking of the heavy armour classes (warrior, guardian and revenant). I thought guardian would be best since it sounds like a tanky class, but for some reason, the posts I found say that guardian have a low hp pool.

So, any suggestions to a profession that can survive HoT exploration better than thief, besides ranger and necromancer? Ease of movement is not my concern. I just want to survive.

Other tips and advice to survive better (not related to profession) would also be very much appreciated.

Thank you.

Thief is actually a nice thing to learn the maps on since if you get it down no prof will be any sort of trouble.
For a nice relaxing first time you will have few problems with a revenant, plus you build up the new prof fast as you go and learn what the maps are like.

The thief is a fragile class. I don’t play mine very much. I do not know how many masteries you have, but HoT is unforgiving to every class before you get masteries. The good news is that masteries are account bound, you make them on one character, you have them on all of your characters.

My two favorite characters are my Reaper and my ranger (she isn’t a Druid yet), and part of the reason is they are sturdy. I like to solo much of the content that I do, so a character’s sturdiness is important to me. I have tried some of the other classes, and Guardians are a pretty sturdy class. They do a fair amount of damage, as well. I don’t know much about Dragon Hunter, but the core specs are pretty powerful. Revenant is much more sturdy than a thief, as well.

Thief, elementalist, engineer, and mesmer are all a little on the fragile side, but the first three do high dps, so you really can’t expect them to have all that damage potential and be sturdy as well – it’s the way the classes are balanced.
