Just started playing gw2 and for the past few weeks I have noticed very bad FPS during gameplay! Trying to figure out what kind of overclock # I should aim for to avoid the 6-15fps in major city’s/large world fights. Here is my current system info. All my other games run perfectly fine with ultra high graphics. Please Help!!!

Lotro = 60-110 fps
League = 100-250 fps

Operating System: Windows 10 64-bit
CPU: Intel i7- 4790k CPU @ 4.00GHz
Ram: 32 GB Dual – Channel DDR3 @ 799MHz (9-9-9-24)
Motherboard: Z97-A-USB31
Graphics Card: GeForce GTX 980 TI
Screens: MX279 (1920×1080@60Hz) x3

Try scaling back the Character Model Limit and/or Quality. Also Reflections. That should help in highly-populated situations.

Anymore tips are welcome, aiming for 30fps in major city/fights trying to get as best fps as I can with no programs running because I plan on streaming/recording for youtube videos soon once I get more skilled that is and know what things are in the game

You are most welcome. =)

You can play around with some of the other options, and see what works best for you.

Welcome to Tyria, and best of luck on your videos!

Since you’re running three monitors, make sure your Render Sample is set to Native and not Super Sample. Super Sample doubles your display resolution. And since you’re running three displays that would mean you’re rendering at SIX TIMES the native resolution. That will make even a 980TI scream for mercy.

Also, try setting Shadow Quality to Medium and disabling Ambient Occlusion. Shadows and AO will have a noticeable performance impact — which will be exponentially larger on a multi-monitor setup.

You mentioned being able to run at ultra settings in other games, but keep in mind GW2 has a much more demanding graphics engine than LOTRO and LOL. LOTRO is almost ten years old now. It still looks pretty darn good, considering its age — but its graphics engine was designed for GPUs from almost a decade ago. LOL was designed to run on lower-spec systems and it is rendered from a “top down” perspective, unlike GW2 which renders scenes “off into the horizon” — which is MUCH more graphically intensive (i.e. showing 50 feet around your character is not anywhere near as demanding as showing the mountains 10 miles away).

I suspect the biggest issue is that you’re trying to drive three displays off a single GTX980TI. That’s a very solid card, but even it has its limits — especially when driving multiple displays with all the eye-candy enabled.

Well I use 1 screen for game display and the other 2 are just for web searching/writing notes down/overlooking twitch display when I stream. Not sure if that is any different than running the game display on all 3 screens.

Ive also tested to see if it was running 3 screens at once being the issue and wasn’t I got the same or little increase of fps with 1 screen connected

Nah, with your spec there is something really lowering your fps – 3 screens would be my best guess.

I wonder how much the ram would have to say.
Im running DDR4 2133mhz , I5 6600, gtx970 and dual monitor with 1920×1200.
Still averaging at around 60 fps in LA, and around 20 in boss fights.
All settings high.

@gameprofreak – while the game is running fullscreen window mode, fire up GPU-Z and see if the video card is “waking up” and is using the x16 PCIe connection as x16 or if it’s stuck at x1. Rightmost column of GPU-Z’s first tab, half way down after the @ will tell you PCIe mode and bus width being used, before the @ is the max.

Bus Interface PCIe x16 3.0 @ x16 3.0 is what it reads when game is running

No issue with that then. You would be surprised how common that is.

Bus width is reading 384 bit

That’s the video memory bus width on the card.
