Hi All I am currently playing a Mesmer and I am liking it and I am going to push her to 80 before i really mess with other classes. However on her I feel like its a lot of work and I kill really slowly. I am looking at my next class to try out and I am kind of lost. Id like one that is efficient at Farming in Orr and the like. I want one that kills fast, doesn’t spend a lot of time dying and is fairly straightforward.

Warrior, maybe thief if you don’t mind being a bit squishy.

What weaponsets would u recommend for warrior?

Hi Djinn i did exactly The same as you rolled my Mezmer to 80 and found i had problems farming , every thing else i love it.

So i followed advice and rolled a warrior to 80, was a lot better but still not great.

So now i rolled a 3rd char and got my self a lvl80 Guardian , with a staff and great sword WOW this rocks for farming

The Staff can tag huge amounts of mobs in front of me as it hits in an AOE cone very fast and great sword for compact mob groups.

Personally im finding my Guardian awesome compared to my Warrior and now my Mezmer is getting very nicely kitted out

Anything can farm anywhere.

So far, I’m doing a Ranger, Thief, Elementalist, and Mesmer.

The mesmer’s got amazing ability to kill things, if you’re built to kill things. I use a sword/pistol with Dueling, Domination and Illusions traits. High power, precision, and critical damage. I use mantras, and Time Warp. Never underestimate what 10 seconds of quickness can do.

If you’re event farming in Orr, you just use any AoE skill, tag as many enemies as possible. I throw on a staff for that.

The ranger, just cast barrage, and sharpening stone.
The elementalist, there’s too much AoE to count
The thief, dagger storm.

If you’re on an empty server, farming solo for drops, well... Every profession I’ve played has no trouble pulling 5-7 mobs at a time, and AoE killing them. I don’t think it’s hard to do on any of the ones I haven’t played, so you should be able to just pick one based on looks.

Farming Orr no matter what your build a Mezmer cannot compete with a Warrior/Guardian, even using AOE the cool downs on Mezmer`s are just to long.

I know this will not answer your question, but why would you want to do farming?

Well ill bump this one. I guess its just because i am finding that solo killing stuff on my mesmer is a fairly involved process.

Warrior. Ranger. Perhaps thief.

Quite simply , as a Mezmer tagging mobs for loot in ORR DE`s etc is not very good compared to many other classes.

Players tend to stand on spawn points for mobs and they get nuked, mesmers are not good at sudden / instantaneous burst damage.

So a player like my self possibly the OP, who wants to craft our own exotic`s we need specific items that don’t drop easily.

Glob`s of ecto plasm are only gained from salvaging lvl 68-80 rare items at a chance.
Also gossamer is gained from salvaging high lvl white items , for myself any way their hard to come by.

So creating a farming char just for this purpose is a good way for me to create my own exotic items with the stats i want, tokens exotics you don’t choose your stats.

Mesmers are great for WvWvW , PvP, PvW but farming DE`s they dont cut it.
For me i have found a Guardian char actually makes farming competitive and fun to do.
