Farming materials completely owned?
Farming has never been easy for me. It takes 36 fine ingredients to make equipment for my thief that uses two pistols/two daggers. But then it jumps to 96. Before this stuff was nerfed, it was taking me 5 hours, on average, to farm that much stuff. Now, I am about to just stop playing the game. It was very good, in the beginning, but this grind-fest has completely trashed my enthusiasm for Guild Wars 2. Completely.
They wasn’t anything in the patch notes about them nerfing drop rates of anything. Where do you farm?
I wasn’t aware of any nerf to farming areas? In anycase, I guess you can always use the trading post to buy your mats, although that can be potentially be a very expensive solution. Or check out some newer areas.
I farm everywhere. Right now I’m 50 on my thief, and I just spent from 10 PM until 5 in the morning getting 96 venom sacs in a spider cave. Seriously, the drop rate on these things is horrendous. And is there a reason why it should go from requiring 3 ingredients to make an inscription, to 8? This is really ruining the game for me. And aside from that, you spend all this effort to make your new gear, and then 5 levels later it’s time to replace it. Crafting seems to be a joke. Sorry, I’m upset. I don’t get it.
Eventually, most farming spots will become known to the public and there will be more competition for drops. Fortunately, there’s no such thing as kill-stealing in this game. In other words, go ahead and smack the crap out of the other farmer’s mobs. I’m sure they won’t mind. :P
I am Fleeting Flash, in-game dungeon cosplayer of Reddit Refugees [RR] .
They probably didn’t nerf it, but there seems to be diminishing returns on both loot and events, the more you kill/do events the less xp/karma/loot you get.
They did not nerf farming, Anet has made it clear that they would prevent farming by making drops stop after a certain amount of time. Its a way to fight botting and the like.
I would suggest that you go from map to map of the appropriate level to get the mats you need, and thus avoid this problem.
Again, this is a design decision, not a nerf.
i dont understand why you need 96 venom sacs my huntsman is lvl 374 or so when i was lvling to reach the next tier of materials i had enough venoms sacs, claws, totems etc to at least get to the point where i needed 8 of one to make an inscription just from lvling up normally, then i searched round the map lookin for a good spot to farm for the mats’s and MAYBE get 32 at most of one type took maybe an hour a day doing so for each tier of mats dont forget when you reach the 8/inscription point they the discoveries can grab up to 2 maybe 3 lvls of your crafting each
Yes, 96 venom sacs. 6 pieces of armor is 48, two daggers and two pistols, a harpoon and a spear. 96. I need 36 when making normal blues to get the same amount of gear. Making me farm 60 more mats is pretty cruel, really.
P.S. I’m not farming mats just to level my crafting, I’m farming them to equip myself.

Another reason to not bother with trying to craft… Can never find the mats for crafting, or nodes seems to be rare or loot drop is nerfed or mats from nodes is crappy and vendor trash…
I made a similar post about this over on reddit during early access, and all the fan boys jumped all over it saying there was no problem with crafting/harvesting.
I even had one * suggest I was doing it wrong, how the hell can you farm incorrectly with a random drop rate. He was likely one of those using exploits to gain excessive mats from vendor items before it was patched. Even the brady guide states its not really possible to level crafting at the same pace as your adventure level with your first char. For those who cannot understand the difference, its not about crafting level, yes, we all know finding a new recipe will jump crafting a few levels, but recipes with stats you have no need of are useless for gearing up.
It really does need to be sorted, telling ppl to buy mats from the ah should not really be needed unless you are making items for sale. I have even had ppl suggest I should buy gems with the express purpose of selling them for credits so I can buy mats, that’s simply ludicrous.
The simplest and most obvious change would be to reduce the number of fine items required per craft at lower to mid levels, 8 is simply laughable for low level junk replaced in a couple of hours of adventuring. Having items that require 25 for level 20 30 gear is taking thekitten (yes they are out there keep an eye on karma vendor recipes), sure, by all means the highest levels of gear should have higher mat req’s, assuming they are as good as equipment gained through other means.
Currently if you try and craft armour and weapons simultaneously you will be reduced to grinding for hours just to gear up, which is not only boring, it is ridiculous, more so, given that better gear also requires you spend karma.
I’m having the same problem with armor / weaponsmithing. I really liked the idea of being able to craft (and make use of) my own gear. Turns out that’s pretty much impossible, as Iron armor has a level requirement of 25 (about my current level) but finding the mats to reach 75 crafting skill takes far longer. By the time I’ve found all those crafting mats I’ll be level 30, so the armor I’m making won’t be much use anyway. Really takes the fun out of crafting.

yeah, as someone’s who’s pretty aggressively leveling all my crafting about as efficiently as possible, this has felt a little off…especially now that they’re going to be even more rare with the changes to loot bags.
The thing is I know it was nerfed, I tried the island in Kessex Hills yesterday for vials of thin blood and in 2 hours I got 23 of them, outrageous. Before that, the past couple days 2 hours would yield me AT LEAST 60 vials of thin blood. I tried other spots for farming it they were also nerfed. The reason I know my spot was nerfed is because the stupid skales started dropping eggs now with the bloods. It is extremeley frustrating to keep up with the levels of my character.
Although, the crafting they have in place is an extremely fun system, I just think the ingredients need to drop more often on mobs.
It was nerfed to keep players from maxing out at LVL 80 by just crafting in 24 hours. Stop whining.
OK, here is a scoup for you people….
The more you farm a creature or an area, the less likely you will get a good drop of anything!
We’ve tested this. Go to an different area and kill something else for a while. When you come back you will find the drop rate increased.
Better yet, find mobs that have been in the world a long time and give bonus xp!
You will find them dropping greens and yellows and tons of blues….

I know it was nerfed man. These mobs never, not once dropped eggs before and it was my first time there for the day and it took me ages just to get 1kittendrop for a vial of thin blood, even with 40% magic find after!
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Anti-farm_code
They put this code in place to prevent people from staying in 1 spot too long to farm mats. Best way, is to roam around and not stay in the same spot for long periods of time or your drop rates get cut down accordingly to the amount of time your there. It was not nerfed, it is the anti farming code they have in place
-Often Imitated But Never Duplicated-
During the past few patchs I have seen that all my farming areas I have either discovered or been farming for a while have been nerfed. Why would ANET do this? The drop rates were decent and nice so I used it to farm and generate money, the money was average, why nerf it? Did they nerf it? Opinions, statements and comments here.
I haven’t noticed any change in the frequency of gatherable crafting materials being changed?
I do have issue with the crafting recipes that take 8 of small xxxx blue item to craft just one inscription, those things either just don’t drop enough or we’re leveling too fast heh.
Lol, who farms anymore when the TP price is this low?
The people in map chat calls people who farm for mats ‘peons’.
I crafted alot during leveling and I didn’t had all the materials nor did I farm them, I just sold what I wasn’t using and bought the harder to get (crafting materials) from the TP.
Each crafting material is usually 1s to less, more and it’s not effective, and if you spend 5s to craft an awesome equip it’ll last you for 10~15 levels I think it’s worth it…
Or just buy the desired equip for 1s or so in the TP. Since right now there’s a massive amount of equip and not so many people buying them, prices are quite cheap to the point crafting is not viable for profiting. Though I think this will change as people start looking for more equips!
Meh, limiting legit players to fight botters is always a bad idea.
I dont understand you guys. If we all would get those items so easy what would the point of crafting be?
In some other mmos you need even more time to lvl you crafting too higher lvls but here i got my leatherworking to 300 simply by crafting when i have enough items and it took me like 3 or 4 days.
Just relax play the game and you will farm your mats just by doing hearts and events and killing mobs when you walk through world.
And if you want to craft gear for your char on certain lvl plan ahead few lvls so you must catch up because you get lots of exp just by crafting.
But like, they want you to get the materials, how would I get the materials for the recipes if they prevent farming? How would I go on the TP and buy them if they cost 1 silver freaking each, sometimes 2silver.

Yes I think that’s what you’re seeing, the longer you stay int he same spot, the worse the drop rate becomes. Sit at a spot and loot 30 for a couple hours and then the next few hours you’ll only get 12-15. It’s to prevent camping.
