Anyone know what is currently the fastest way to level up to 80? [Without expensive boosters, etc.]

I already have a level 80 character that has completed the story. It was a slow and tedious grind that I found very boring. I’m starting a second character [currently level 10-20] and all I want is for it to max to level 80 as soon as possible so it can play the funner end game [dungeons, etc].

I need some tips for this…

Uhm…aside from not understanding the part where you find end game more fun than the ride there (seeing as you don’t really do that much…different activities at lvl 80):
-crafting
-exploration
-gathering crafting mats
-lots of DEs?

Are you no longer enjoying playing the lvl 80 character you have? Is it no fun to do “end game” with that character?

Ah, ok.
Could you elaborate on how and why your first path to lvl 80 felt like a boring and tedious grind? What did you do?
It might be easier to steer you towards more interesting activities if I knew what you didn’t like

the 1-80 leveling is playing the open world which is mostly empty lonely wandering around doing slow busy work for no high end rewards. and i already done it before. i prefer to play end game dungeons, etc because it’s the complete opposite.

so i want to get new characters to 80 in the quickest cheap way possible.

If you’re lonely wandering the world, you might want to see if you can’t get into a nice(er) guild. Also, I’m told that going into WvW for a while can net you quite a bit of exp – especially the events there.
And don’t forget that you can start doing dungeons from lvl 30 onwards, with a new dungeon opening up every 10 (5, if you count the explorable modes as new dungeons) levels.

Edit: The fastest way really is crafting, if you have the mats for it – that way, you could get to 80 in 2-4 hours I believe, if you didn’t need to farm mats (or money for mats) in between.

Crafting from 0-400 can give you at least 10 levels (more if you are using crafting xp boosters). So if you get two crafts on your character to 400 you could get 20 levels.

If you are prepared to spend quite a bit of gold, you can level 7 crafts for 70 levels, I think. It sued to be very cheap before all the bots got banned, but now some points along the way to 400 are a bit painful.

For a cheaper alternative, you could level any combo of crafts (Jewelcrafting combines well since it doesn’t use the fine mats) until you reach around level 40, then go do the dungeons as they become available.

crafting is an expensive and complicated way to level. i’d rather be leveling in ways in which i’m practicing my combat as well as also earning gold and items.

You can’t have it every way at once.

Crafting is not complicated. If you think it is, then you don’t understand it. Thats a topic for another thread, though.

Crafting is not expensive if you have the materials. If you’re a sell-everything type of player that does not stockpile materials, yes, you will need to buy them or farm them. If you stockpile them, then you can argue opportunity cost, but the is a reward as well, so it is a matter of being willing to pay the price.

You want to practice combat, but you don’t want to kill open-world… do dungeons.

You can already do fractals. I have a now-14 warrior in my semi-regular fractal group.

You can do regular dungeons starting at 30; my elementalist will be leveled from 30-80 from just dungeons, crafting, and the exploration necessary to rech dungeons. I wish I had the time to pursue this more, but while it is going to take me a while, is a compeltely viable path.

80 is not special. The game starts at level 1, not 80; you don’t need to grind to 80 in a way you hate; if you play the game the way you enjoy it, you will find you are 80 eventually.

It’s not that complicated! Except for cooking, where the guides out there require you to buy expensive stuff and there are oodles of recipes. Assuming you have mats (which if you have a lvl 80 that hasn’t done much crafting and you haven’t sold the mats, is possible), it’s not that expensive either.

Pick your two crafting disciplines.

  • Determine which items require fewest materials in that discipline. You probably want 3+ for each level. For Jewelcrafting, it’s earrings (x6-7 gems). For any armoring, it’s head, shoulders, gloves, and boots. For artificing, it’s everything but the staff.
  • Whenever a new tier opens up (0, 100ish, 200ish, 300ish), refine all your mats in bulk.
  • Then build all your components in bulk, preferably about 10 each of armor/ weapon pieces (for the weapons/armor that are cheaper to make) or 12 – 14 settings and earring pieces
*Build or buy your first round of insignias/inscriptions, one for each type of item you’re making (i.e. 3 types of insignias x 4 armor types)
  • Discover recipes
  • Build or buy next round of insignias/inscriptions (you probably only need 3 types); discover recipes
  • Build or buy 4 types of masterwork insignias/inscriptions; discover recipes

… It’s a rough approximation of what I end up doing for each tier of crafting mats. Your luck with bonus EXP may modify how much you need for each tier.

Combat-wise, if you are a class with any ranged capability whatsover, you can start leveling in WvW. I suggest ranged because your low-level gear (not rare/exotic) will cause you to be squishier than most of your competition. Otherwise, run DE’s.

i’ve got a bunch of mats but haven’t done any crafting. does crafting really give that much xp??

I total get what you are saying that you don’t like levelling some people don’t. I also much prefer endgame.

Crafting really does help you level, it makes it much much faster. I did my last 3 lvs in 15min lol by crafting.

It cost me though because I bought the stuff from trade house.

It depends on your world server, but, WvW can be rewarding. Once you hit lvl 40’ish, you can quickly level up with crafting. Taking all crafts to only the 275 ish range. It’s cheaper than taking them to 375-40o range because mat’s get expensive quick. Though, if you desire to use this toon to create any gear, then save the two crafts you want to take to 400 for last. Since switching back and forth crafts at lvl 400 cost 40 silver. Crafting booster works wonders.

I’m about to do the same on a couple of new alts too.

The absolute biggest experience dealers are:

1) Dungeons
2) Story quests
3) Dynamic events
4) Crafting

Use food and potions to give you an xp boost as you level (no need for xp boosts).

The obstacle is the path.

In order to craft, you need crafting materilas, in order to get them, you need to hunt mobs, do events that involve killing mobs, mine, cut and gather…all of which gives you XP!

So really you are already doing several things to gain XP.

Well, my friend started another character and transferred ingredients for cooking onto the new one, and in that way gained about 30 levels in 1 hour, the next 2 days I went with him trough his personal campaign, somewhere about entering Orr (in the storyline)he hit lv80, mind you this was done in about 2 days.

…what with people going on about how they like endgame better than the way to get there:
I can not remember a single type of content that only becomes available at endgame (=lvl 80). Would someone enlighten me? Gaming philosophies aside, I just don’t get it.

From lv 30-40 the fastest way IMO is to go in WvW.
Pick 3-4 friends with you (or pug) and farm supply camps, power nodes, veterans etc.
you can easly get about 1 lvl in 30-40 min and it’s infinitely repeatable.

Get to level 35. Do AC exp. Every path gets you 70%-80% of the bar no matter what lvl.

/edit
Also, you could run dungeons with your lvl80, park your alt at the wp and switch into your alt if your party lets you when boss is at low health, as long as you make it to the cutscene you should be fine. Ac exp is the fastest though and it gives you some good gold income too.
