Thank you for reading and commenting on my post, I am new to the game and if i knew about GW2 I could had ditched wow a long time ago, played the trial and I got hooked on the game, like….love at first sight, there is so much to do and the quest system its way different than any other game, non repetitive and easy to accomplish.

Now…..I level all the classes to LVL 10 at least to get a feel for them and the 2 classes that got my attention the most are Warrior and Guardian, just the fact going around smashing stuff’s head with a big sword that the toon seems not been able to carry its appealing.

My question is, should I put my effort into the Guardian or Warrior? I am not ready to join PVP since I am new to the game and dont want to be a burden messing up doing such, so PVE its my main focus right now and getting used to the game, also want to get into dungeons and get a feel for it.

I need advice in what class is more wanted on Raids and Dungeons and everything else that has to do with PVE. Love them both….but I am looking for something easy to LVL as well easy in killing veterans as well.

Thank you in advance for your support.

I love Guardian. Its been my main character for years now. I find it a lot of fun to play and it can carry a struggling party better than any other class because of its versatility with skills and utilities (imo). However, everyone will probably tell you to go with warrior because of its higher sustained dps which is generally preferred for raids and high level fractals as people doing that type of content generally do not need to be carried and just want to get things done as fast as possible. Regardless, either class is equally capable of doing any of the pve/wvw content in GW2, and you will not have to worry about getting kicked for bringing either one – unless the party is attempting a speed record or filled with jerks.

If you enjoy the game in general, odds are you will just end up leveling both of them anyways like the rest of us lol. And the nice thing is, they are both heavy classes so they can just share the same set of ascended armor as ascended gear does not get soulbound to a character like the lower armor types do.

Both guardian and warrior are easy to level. Both are wanted and valuable in dungeon/fractal runs. The guardian is more defense oriented while warior is all about offense. GW 2 is a game that does not put restrictions on you – you are free to play whatever proffesion and whatever build feels fun to you and fits your playstyle. After hitting lategame and getting a better understanding of your class you will eventually begin experimenting with different builds, tactics and synergetics. Until then you are free to experience the beauty of the game at your own pace and whatever way you feel like. That is the core point og guild wars 2. I hope this helped you. It would help if you told us what you enjoyed in WoW, because folks with experience with both can translate.

That said … I’m going to say you will likely enjoy warrior more, based on your description of what you like doing. Guardian is much more … challenging in terms of how you manage defensive magic, which feels like it would take away from the parts you want to focus on.

Welcome to Tyria and I hope you like it here.

I gave up with WoW sometime during MoP, had a brief look at it when WoD cam out and have pretty much entirely turned my back on it. However knowing people who are still playing it I can give some pointers to what I feel are the main differences.

There is no gear grind. The best equipment you can get is Ascended (Legendary has the same stats), which really isn’t that much better than Exotic to be really worth chasing until you are doing high end fractal and raids. For virtually all the content you will be fine in exotics which can be bought off the Trading post fairly cheaply, 2 – 5 gold per item, (gold is far more valuable here than in WoW). Mostly armor and weapons are wanted to unlock a particular skin. Your characters style can end up being far more important at high levels than any gear score.

The classes are far more versatile, if you want a melee ranger, you can make one that works well, warrior using ranged weapons, fine for most open world mobs and can be reasonable support in dungeons as well. You say you have played all classes to 10, but have you tried all weapon types on them, a mace/focus guardian plays very differently from a greatsword guardian. Try as much as you can and find out what is fun for you to play, that is more important here than what is meta at the moment.

A couple of other things to mention, there is no kill or node stealing, everyone that helps kill a mob will get experience and loot for themselves, ore, wood and plant nodes will remain for anyone else to gather after you have collected them, you can even log onto a different character yourself and go out and get the same node. Everyone can resurrect anyone else, and gets experience for doing so. Leveling is quick and the more you play the quicker it gets as there are items that can be used to grant levels to alts, but it is worth taking the time to level slowly and explore the world, and find out what part of the game you enjoy, whether it is open world pve, dungeons and fractals, wvw or spvp, every thing is viable.

If you are still playing the trial version you will find there are a lot of limitations on it, particularly as far as the trading post goes. You can do most of the original game on it all the way to level 80, but if you haven’t bought the game and are sure you are enjoying it then I would recommend getting HoT.
