Few Quick Questions from Returning Player
1) There is debate whether WvW is currently a pale shadow of it’s former self since the launch of HoT. I would wait until ANet rolls out their “fix” for what was done to WvW which may be six months or more away.
2) Everyone’s T1 server is the best server. I’m JQ but I’m sure the other two will disagree.
3) The joke, due to the number of human females in game, is they get a 10% XP bonus so that’s why everyone rolls one.
RIP City of Heroes
3. Its a joke. Pick a Race you like most.
I would make a second account out of your HoT. Why you wonder, because your core game (and ofc HoT expac) give you log in rewards every day, and having more then account, means you get two log in rewards every day. And when you reach the laurel part you can make some nice gold out of it and transfer to your main account.
You can also place your character on the account you don’t play on a good spot, say on a rich mining node, a jumpingpuzzle chest or the like, and you can also get gold for this.
Further more there are sometimes holiday events were you can pick up special rewards or use the goodies in the event and feed your main account with it.
There are many other ways that you can use accounts, like keyfarm and what not.
None of this is possible with f2p accounts since they do not have log in rewards and they can not send anything to any other account. So don’t upgrade your core account, save it and make a new account with your HoT account so you have two.
I really would not recommend making a free account to play WvW. There are a lot of limitations on free accounts. You can see a full list here but the most important ones in this situation are:
- Cannot choose their server or transfer server (you can pick NA or EU but that’s it).
- Cannot enter WvW until level 60.
- Cannot use map chat at all.
If you’d be ok with losing your current characters a better option might be to delete all your existing characters, which enables you to transfer to a different server for free. Anything in your bank and anything tied to the account as a whole (like achievement points, gold, things unlocked in your wardrobe etc.) are saved so you wouldn’t be starting completely from scratch.
But I also think it’s worth bearing in mind that they changed how server populations work a while ago – it used to be based on the number of people who had chosen that server as their home world. But since they introduced the megaserver system for PvE server population is now entirely based on the number of people actively playing WvW on that server.
So while it looks like the population has dropped across the board not much has really changed in terms of the total number of people on each server and in PvE you’re much more likely to encounter other people regardless of what server you’re on.
WvW is in a bit of an odd situation at the moment because they introduced new maps with HoT and apparently they’re not very popular, although I don’t play it enough to know the details. Apparently there are more changes coming in the next few months though, so you might want to hold off on switching servers until after that.

Actually in wvw you can use mapchat even if you have a f2p account, you can not whisper anyone though.
