Few new player questions pt 2..
How to get to player to player discussion: Click on Forums or Game Discussion and scroll (or not depending on size of your screen) to where it says Players Helping Players and click on it.
The same way you get into the Guild Wars 2 Discussion sub-forum.
This thread will likely get moved to Players Helping Players as well.
1. What do you mean by quests? ANet doesn’t have quests in the standard sense. If you mean personal story, you get one chapter released every 10 levels starting at level 10. If you mean generic quests, those are the Hearts you see around and they are all available to you when you start. Some may just be out of your level range.
2. I’ve never really felt the need to use an exp booster so I can’t answer this one
3. Never played mesmer, but scroll down to the Mesmer forum and see what the dungeon meta is. That will give you an idea of which is better.
4. Depends on class. The maps are too small with too many waypoints to really warrant mounts. There’s a thread in this section that talks about how people feel about passive speed boosts. You may want to check that thread out. A lot of methods are brought up.
5. I believe you do get more experience if you are grouped up, but you’d have to hunt for a party to level together. Most just level solo or group with friends or guild mates.
There’s not too many ways to really mess up. Repairing your armor is even free, so the only real cost would be the waypoint cost if no one is around to res you.
Another option for quests are the Dynamic events. They pop up from time to time near the Hearts. The Hearts are placed near where Dynamic events pop up.
Some are one event only, others are chains. Stick around and listen to the NPC conversation. A lot of times they will give hints that the event you just completed is part of a chain.
Think of this game as an MMO without traditional quests. You’ll be happier. If you see something that’s going on, feel free to get involved whether you have a quest for it or not.
If you see an attack on a city, jump in and help defend. If you see a burning farm, grab a bucket and help put out fires.
You don’t need to wait for a quest to be a hero in Guild Wars 2.
You can’t really screw up while leveling.
Literally everything you do gives you exp points. Crafting, mining, logging, harvesting, doing renown hearts (once off quests that are part of map exploration), visiting points of interest, viewing vistas, completing map exploration, killing creatures, resurrecting players and NPC, completing dungeons, doing events (these are kinda like quests but are repeatable).
2. Use your booster whenever you want. It has a time limit but that only counts on time actually in game, so if you log out while it is still it should still be active when you log back in. As you go up in level and move to different areas, you get more exp so the rate at which you level up doesn’t really change.
3. It depends. Since you can change your traits and equipment while travelling it’s worth carrying a set of everything for any situation you may encounter. For example, my warrior carries three sets of armour and 6 sets of weapons. My necro has 4! sets of armour and 5 sets of weapons.
4. Mesmer is probably the worst class for speed boosts. The maps in the world aren’t that big and you will unlock waypoints to jump to as you explore the world. After you’ve explored the entire world it’s a simple matter of clicking on a waypoint near where you want to go and just going, for a small cost. (I’ve never understood the obsession with mounts.)
5. It makes no difference whether you level with a party or solo. Some events are group events and having a party helps, but you can just ask for help in the map and usually people are happy to help, especially when there is loot involved.
1- You gain massive amounts of experiences by exploring the world. This means finding points of interests, waypoints, vistas, and doing heart “quests”. You should also pitch in any event you find nearby, they normally dont take that long to finish but they give you a large boost to your exp.
You may also want to buy cheep (5 copper cheep.)Food and maitainence oils. They will grant you a total of 20-25% exp boost on kills. Monsters that live longer in the world grant extra bonus exp. This means you should check the roads that are not close to events ,points of interests and such. Example would be killing underwater mobs. Another one should be killing passive mobs. Most people ignore them cause they dont go attack you first.
The differences on this would be : Centaur kill =200 exp,Passive fish/boar= 200+450exp
Now add 20% more from your super cheep food…it all adds up nicely
You may also want to do daily achievements, they give you extra exp. Crafting gives a TON of exp as well…but it costs a investment in time, crit crafting boosters, money and materials.
Also, dungeons. Dungeons will most likely lvl you up instantly every time you finish a path
2. Whenever you feel like it. Personally i would combine it with the above mentioned food exp boosters, and use it when you decide to fully explore a brand new zone that is around your level. Remember to kill those passive/underground/rarely visited mobs
3. Mesmers are a utility class mostly. This means they offer the best tricks in a team. This also means your utlity skills and weapon skills may vary depending on the situation.
You also MUST understand that gw2 has various aspects of the game, and you MUST adapt your class, weapons and gear stats to that aspect. Otherwise other people might ignore you,and hate you for not being “optimal” or at least normally prepared for the content ahead of you.
In general exploring PvE,anything works, you can do whatever. Tho teleportions, swiftness and leaps and lots of damage in short time is good to have. This will make you explore the world and kill stuff faster.
In dungeons Full zerker, fury, might, fire fields, blast finishers, ice bows, reflections and stealth is great. You MUST adapt to this aspect of the game in some of the ways i just mentioned, otherwise you will not contribute to your dungeon party and people will kick you. And no, healing builds and tanky armor sets does not contribute to the dungeon.
Im sorry, but as hard and dumb this might seem to you, its just how dungeons work.
WvW Depends on weather you will be solo roaming vs other roamers, roaming to cap camps, folowing the zerk or leading the zerk
PvP Depends on what class ,and what role you will play in a match. Its also mostly about how you actually use the build in the match rather than picking one from the web and going all PvE mode inside a match…
4. Use Waypoing, have permanent switness boon, or use a utility skill/trait that gives permanent 25% running speed. As a mesmer i use Superior runes of Centaur. They are super cheep, give nice amount of power ,and with my super short CD healing skills i can have permanent swiftness. Teleporting skills also are a plus
5. You will level up much faster if you solo and follow your own pace. While exploring zones you gain exp for exploring points, you dont need a party for that, and waiting for others might slow you down. As for heart quests you dont share your progressions if you are in a party (i think?) which means you will again, have to wait for someone to finish it before you can continue on.
Dungeons are a different thing, a party is a must. Soloing a dungeon is also possible….but takes waaay too much time..and the rewards are the same.
However i will say that exploring with a friend or two might be more fun than soloing THE ENTIRE WORLD… and this is a mmOrpG…its a game…its supposed to be fun, and its a online one, so its supposed to be played with other people
