Thanks
I unlocked every core skill/specialization with hero points, and i read that there are elite specializations aswell, but where can i find them?
They’re not released yet and will be released with Heart of Thorns.
We don’t even know what all of them will be yet. Only four of nine thus far (details on the fourth, the Elementalist → Tempest, will come this Thurs and Fri).
Oh i see thanks
I just found out that legendary items will be soulbond on use… Why cant they be account bound? I mean if i work monthes to get for e.g a sword, why coulndt i use it on more of my characters? Thief, warrior, ranger etc.. I will still need other legendaries, dagger, longbow, shortbow etc etc… But crafting 3 legendary swords just to have it on all of my characters is insane…
EDIT:oops nevermind, i read a post from 2 years ago, and i found an announcement from aNet about the change, my bad… (still if someone could confirm it it would be great, just to make it sure )
(edited by SkullProX.7083)
They’re account bound.
There’s little reason to worry about making a legendary. The main component is hyper-rare and extremely expensive. Many players that have been here three years still don’t have one.
Oh, okay thanks.
A question about the game. Is the heart of thorns available to buy as a CD in shops like gamestop? Or not yet? If not, when will be available?
EDIT: my friend needs it in Austria.
EDIT2: I bought the Hot pre purchase already, but lets say if i had the normal game, and i buy the HoT (with the full game) can i link that to my old account? Instead of having 1 old and a pre purchased HoT acc, to have 1 only with HoT? (i would pay more at the end, so it wouldnt be a cheaper version, so there is no loss for aNet)
(edited by SkullProX.7083)
I believe the elite specializations will be released in the patch.
So far as far as I know there are no CD’s. Prepurchasers get a jewel case with a code inside. I would recommend against bothering with CD’s even if they do come out, as the game patches frequently enough that they’ll be obsolete by the time you buy them, let alone just a few weeks after that. You won’t be able to get along without doing digital downloading, so why not start with that? Also if you buy directly from ANet you have a better chance of Support being able to help you with issues or refunds at need.
HoT is an upgrade to the current game. It happens to include the base game so new purchasers don’t have to buy two versions. There is only one price for HoT (plus more for versions with digital goodies). So you get the HoT key and apply it to your base game account on the registration page and then you have a HoT account that includes everything you’ve done in the base game. (I know this to be true, I prepurchased and put the key on my account I’ve been using since launch).
If you bought the base game after the HoT announcement, you are eligible for a refund within certain parameters so that you end up only paying the HoT price. I think the deadline for that is July 31. Check the HoT forums and FAQ pages for details. Or perhaps someone who knows where the links are can provide them; I’ve had no interest in refunds so I’ve paid little attention.
Thank you, well i asked that about HoT for the future expansions, i bought the game with HoT and didnt play before so its ok.
And for the first part, is it possible to buy a code or sth in a store? My friend cant purchase the game online with a bank card, so thats why im asking if there are any possible ways for him to get the game in some retailer or sth.
There is a list of official retailers who are legitimately selling the game (again, could use someone else providing the link). I believe Vayne is Australian? He’s a helpful sort, and should know what stores have the game Down Under. Hopefully he’ll see this thread
Austria, not Australia But thanks, if someone knows the link, then please post it.
Aiie, I don’t believe I read that wrong. I even honeymooned in Vienna, I certainly know the difference between the countries!
I know I’ve seen people commenting on the stores in Germany that carry HoT. There should be plenty in Austria as well. If not and your friend is near the border, likely he could jaunt over to make the purchase.
Haha :P I thought you know it, but its easy to read it wrong
Okay thank you, i will tell him.
Another question; If i create a guild just for myself, to get the guild storage, will that be safe? I mean untill i dont invite anyone, items cant dissapear from there right? Also can i put account bound/soulbound items in the guild storage?
Account bound and soulbound items cannot be stored in guild banks, no. Besides that, the storage would be safe, as long as you never click “Leave Guild”. If you abandon your personal storage guild, everything you’ve stashed in it is going to poof.
That makes me so paranoid since the Leave button is in such a horrid place near buttons I need to hit to get from one guild to another. I think they’ll fix it in the guild interface revamp for HoT, as it was a noticed issue in the CDI.
Meanwhile I’ve gotten a trusted friend to join my guild so that if I do accidentally leave she can invite me back in. Not that I have anything crucial in there, just various runes and sigils and a sprinkling of doubloons. I’d have more but my main guild’s leader cleaned the bank when I was traveling for a weekend without telling me so all my pack rat things such as candy corn, snowflakes and ugly wool etc went poof Right after I opened my personal 100 slot tab too!
I got 1 more questions
1, Whats the point of hosting servers, if you cant play www for that server? I mean u can do anything else together, why would you go as a guest if you cant www anyways?
2, On my thief i use shadow refugee (before i had shadowstep because of the awesome mobility), signet of shadows, and haste (extra crit, faster animations, and anti cc, so pretty nice for both pve and pvp) with the hide in shadows heal. Is this build decent? I got d/d-SB atm, but im planning to try D/D-S/P out soon
Guesting is something of a relic from before megaservers. At that time, it was helpful for things like world bosses, and some of the living story season 1 stuff. Plus, you had to use it to play with friends on different servers. It’s basically an outdated feature – the only niche use I can think of might be to try to get on a different instance of a map than one you’re on, but that wouldn’t be guaranteed or anything.
As for thief, it’s been a long time since I did much on mine, so I couldn’t say right now – just keep in mind that traits matter for the build you’re using, not just the skills/gear you have set. Plus, not sure where you’re using it – it should be fine for open world stuff, but for other things you might not always want that signet equipped. Smokescreen, for one, can be handy for projectile destruction and blinds.
Your thief utility layout is identical to mine right now, though I use Withdraw to heal instead of Hide in Shadows. For situations where mobility isn’t as important, you can swap out Signet of Shadows for another skill (Shadowstep or Blinding Powder, maybe), and then swap the Signet back in when you’re ready to travel again. I’m usually too lazy to do that in the open world, but for dungeon runs and the like it’s probably wise.
Thanks. I know that i have to swap build for different things, but i just hit 80 not long ago, and im not going to PvP yet untill i get a better knowledge of other classes. So i just stick to this build with a few changes in dungeons/open world contetnt thats why i asked.
Anothwe question: I just saw an ingame announcement about some new available builds, what was that about?
When you see the new build announcement, that just means a new patch has hit – or will hit soon (in the time stated). Once it does, in most places you have an hour or so before it will force you to log out and get the patch to play again. If you leave the map you’re on, it will usually log you out too.
After the patch hits, others won’t be able to join you in a map instance until you get it too – since there will be some differences in each client.
Oh, okay i just thought its some trait build or sth.
Another question about key binding; are there best ones, or a best few? And is it possible to install a binding ‘set’ and just put it in the game instead of manually making everything?
I’m not sure what you mean by a binding set. You can redo your key bindings any time you like via the options screen, and those changes will remain account wide for you until you change them again, even if you log in from a different computer.
If you mean creating a template so you can swap it out between alts, no, you only get one universal set.
As to which ones are best, it’s far too subjective. Some people swear by shifting WASD over one set of keys. For me it makes no difference, I don’t keyboard move, I mouse move and reserve the keyboard for firing off skills and utilities. Some people like to do combo keys with SHIFT and CTRL modifiers; I find it slows me down tremendously to try to hit two keys instead of just one, plus I have small hands compared to most players and it hurts to do that stretch. (Not freakishly small, I just happen to be a woman on the slim side so I don’t have big ol’ guy mitts )
So it’s whatever feels intuitive to you. Which isn’t to say people can’t make suggestions but only you can decide if they are in fact good enough to be the “best” for you.
Thanks, i will make one for myself
No, i didnt mean swapping, i meant like downloading an already done one and then putting it in the game files, instead of doing it 1by 1. (If i find a good one online, in that case only)
Nope, no templates. You can’t download keybinds afaik because that would be in essence a template, plus automatically applying it would need a macro and those are not allowed.
On the plus side, this game doesn’t have nearly as many keybinds to set as most others.
:/ thanks
Another 2 questios:
1, i have some crappy lv68-70 rare/exotic eq, however i got 180k karma which im not planning to use on anything atm, should i just farm up untill 240k and get a lv 80 exo set from a karma vendor?
2, why do gears with the sam level and rarity have the exact same stats and amount of stat points (>just in a different rates) ? I never saw this in any mmos, and it reduces the choices a bit. I mean there should be gears which require more work, and give bettwr stats or sth. Some explanation would be good because i didnt get this. Same for the legendary which takes so much work but doesnt offer stronger stats than ascended
1 — You can farm the karma (over time you’ll end up with millions of it), as the temple gear is the most “free” set of exotics you’ll get, plus it has unique skins. You do want level 80 exotics, whether bought with karma, gold on the TP (it’s only a gold or two per piece as a rule) or dungeon tokens.
2 — This game is designed for gear balance. You choose your stat distribution to fit your play style (eg berserker stats for pure dps at the cost of defense) but you don’t get to have more stats than anyone else of the same tier. The idea is to have skill determine how you do, not gear.
The gear that requires more work is the ascended, unless you get phenomenally lucky with drops. What legendary offers is the ability to freely swap stats on the fly any time you are out of combat so you can shuffle around your overall combination a bit. Ascended can only change with some expense and some time at the Mystic Forge (and that’s a new development in the past few weeks, used to be it was stuck with the stats from creation).
Far from reducing the choice it opens it much wider. If gears A and B take the “extra work” but then have a huge stat advantage over C and D, who is ever going to use C and D once they procure A and B?
Good point, but if A and B would be better, everyone would use C and D at some point, untill they get A or B.
One thing i dont get: I used to see builds on the forum like: 0/10/30/30/0
What do these stand for? If these are the traits, why arent there 3x 30 and 2×0? Since you can only use 3 trait lines, but you use it all. Or it means sth else?
The previous iteration of traits allowed you access of all 5 trait lines, hence the 5 numbers.
In the first iteration you had 70 points to spend in traits, 1 point per level after level 10. Problem you had to spend 5 points to unlock a trait which allowed you to mess up so in the second iteration they reduced it to 14 points so you couldn’t mess up.
So 0/10/30/30/0 meant no traits in the 1st and last trait line, the 2 adept trait “slots” unlocked on line 1, and all trait “slots”, adept/master/grandmaster, unlocked on lines 3 and 4.
(edited by Behellagh.1468)
Oh okay, but nowadays you can unlock all of them, and i still used to see people writing that thats why i asked xD thanks
Oh okay, but nowadays you can unlock all of them, and i still used to see people writing that thats why i asked xD thanks
Well more like now you can only pick 3 lines with everything eventually unlocked rather than 14/70 points to spread across 5 lines. Also during the 2nd version of traits, you could place lower level traits into higher level slots which I didn’t think was possible in the first version.

It was possible, at least from a month after launch (1st iteration) to put lower level traits in the higher slots.
But yeah, some people are still used to typing out builds/traits that way, so I still see it on occasion, even though it doesn’t make much sense with the current setup.
Oh, got it thanks
2more questions: 1, i saw it on the wiki that ‘gift of fortune’ an item for legendary needs world rank 14 to do, why is that?
2,Is there any significant difference between turn left/right or strife left/right? Personally i like the turn with the forward button and the mouse rotation better, but i could learn the strife, if its more efficient, or better to use.
3, I know that each class got some better weapon options in each mode (pvp, www, pve) but there are more viable options, according to playstyle right? Like e.g warrior pvp got at least 2-3 decent weapon combination, depending on skills and playstyle, same for warrior www, it got another 2-3 etc? Or im wrong, and usually there is 1 best weapon build?
(edited by SkullProX.7083)
Strife is side step, you still face the same direction while turn changes the direction you are facing.
Another way of thinking it is if you hold the strafe left key down, you go straight left. If you hold the turn left key down you will run around in a circle anti/counter clockwise.
I don’t see anything under gift of fortune in the wiki that says anything about world rank 14, that’s a WvW term.
The best weapon build is the one you use the most successfully. Theorycrafters will hone that to the most mathematically useful combinations but if your reflexes don’t flow right it won’t help.
Strafing is highly useful because you can sidestep or even side-dodge out of aoe without losing sight of your target. I find it far handier in combat, to the point that I don’t have turning in place bound on my mouse. I strafe and back up with thumb buttons, move forward with a LMB/RMB combo, and steer by twitching the mouse side to side. If I need to turn rapidly in place I spin the camera with the RMB then tap the LMB/RMB together and boom, I’m moving in the new direction. Keyboard turning is reserved for slower out of combat times.
I think legendaries do require some level of WvW rank now for one component. I’ve never yet made a legendary. I bought the Gift of Battle with badges of honor from achievement chests before they put in the rank requirement, and have it sitting and waiting in case I ever do make one.
Good point, but if A and B would be better, everyone would use C and D at some point, untill they get A or B.
Technically that already exists, it’s just done over rarity tiers. A level 80 blue sword with Berserker stats isn’t as good as a level 80 green sword with Berserker stats. And so on up the rarity chart. So the best item, A, is the Ascended sword, and people can use Exotic sword B or Rare sword B- until they can get the upgrades.
(edited because Rare Sword C led to some kittening)
There’s just no difference within the rarity tier itself.
Oh, got it thanks
2more questions: 1, i saw it on the wiki that ‘gift of fortune’ an item for legendary needs world rank 14 to do, why is that?
The Gift of Battle is purchased in World vs. World by spending badges. It simply isn’t available until World Rank.. 15, I think. Maybe it’s 14. It’s because to earn a Legendary weapon they want players to play all game content. For a while, you actually needed rank 30.
Before World Rank was a requirement, you actually needed to fully map all the World vs. World zones for world completion, which was sizably harder than just gaining ranks, and sometimes required luck for which colour your server wound up getting. People on lower-tier servers often couldn’t get world completion as a result, back then.
“Best” is rarely so good that it completely invalidates other options. There are people who play in PvP or WvW with, say, Pistol/Pistol Thief, which is a decidedly underpowered weaponset. But in the right scenarios, they can still enjoy some success.
Now, “some success” is subjective. When the PvP championship events occur and get streamed on Twitch, you’re not going to see any of the top ranking teams there using a Pistol/Pistol Thief. You probably won’t see any Mace/Shield Warriors or Rifle Warriors either, or Mace/Shield Guardians. But that’s okay. You’re not a top ranking PvP player. So play what you enjoy and learn from that. If you can make it work for you, great, if not and you get frustrated, try something else. You don’t need to follow a cookie-cutter build if you don’t want to. The game’s not so complicated that you can’t find something that you like and that works for you on your own.
And there are PvP players out there who pick classes and/or weapons that don’t see a lot of “meta” use, and make it work for them at high levels through exceptional skill. Those players tend to get some extra attention, though I’m not going to name names here. You could try watching this weekend’s event to see!

Thanks for all the answers, i will try out strifing then. Just, what is RMB and LMB?xD
And sorry i wanted to write gift of mastery. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Gift_of_Mastery
Okay then i will just play every weapon set i find fun, and stick to the one i have most succes with.
Just, what is RMB and LMB?xD
Right Mouse Button and Left Mouse Button
Sorry, I should have spelled those out. I was trying to be all cool ’n stuff with mah sweet lingo …
Note it is “strafing” not “strifing.” Strafe is to move to the side. Strife is conflict.
Nah its my fault:D I tired it and its really better thanks. Another question xD
I get many rare items from world bosses, should i sell them for 30-40silvers on the tp, or should i use them in the mystic forge?
2.If i get a dye which i already unlocked, then i cant ‘use’ that up again right?
(edited by SkullProX.7083)
As a newer player, I wouldn’t recommend using your rares in the Mystic Forge. That’s gambling. It could pay off, it usually won’t. Either salvage them with a Master Salvage Kit for the Ectoplasms, or sell them on the Trading Post. Don’t fill buy orders with them, list them at or just underneath the lowest sell order, to maximize your profit.
You are prohibited from using repeat dyes, correct. The dye’s tooltip will warn you that you’ve already unlocked that colour, and double-clicking it won’t work.
Thanks i will keep selling them
2more questions
1, how can we get spirit shards after HoT release?
2,If my xp bar fills after 80, do i get the spirit shard automatically?
Spirit shards will come from drops and dailies. Leveling post 80 does nothing right now (not even a shard, I don’t think) because we are in transition between the old system and the HoT system, but in HoT it will advance whatever Mastery you have slotted to work on.
For thiefs, is the dungeon build viable for open world pve too?
I use: critical strikes: 2-2-2 (because 100% crit after stealth is op :P)
deadly arts: 2-3-3
trickery:3-1-1
And signet of malice, smoke screen (dungeons)-or binding power(solo open world) or shadow refugee (utility) with assasins signet and signet of agility.
Elite is usually thiefs guild, but sometimes dagger storm.
Weapons: d/d is always in, and sword/pistol usually in open world and shortbow for dungeons, but it depends on situation aswell.
(or im doing it totally wrong?)
(edited by SkullProX.7083)
I don’t have the game open in front of me to double-check the trait numbers, unfortunately. I shall have to hope the Wiki lists them in the right order! And maybe it doesn’t, because you’re talking about how Hidden Killer is OP, but in the numbers you have listed it would seem you’re using Invigorating Precision…
My Critical Strikes setup is 2-2-3. No Quarter really is the gem of the Critical Strikes lineup, alongside the minor Unrelenting Strikes. Both No Quarter and Practiced Tolerance boost your critical damage, but No Quarter works in tandem with Unrelenting Strikes to give you essentially unlimited Fury in the process. I’m not a big fan of Hidden Killer personally. Yes, it guarantees that you’ll get the big five-digit number when you Backstab, but it doesn’t do anything for the rest of your attacks.
For Deadly Arts, I use 2-2-1 right now. Revealed Training is superior for DPS, so there’s nothing wrong with you picking that. I just got used to Panic Strike via PvP/WvW, and it certainly has applications in PvE as well. I’m not sure if my numbering is right, because if you’re using 2-3-3 that means your Grandmaster is Potent Poison, which is not very optimal. Both Executioner and Improvisation are much stronger, and either of them are worthy choices. I use Executioner in PvE and Improvisation in PvP, but I can see switching to Improvisation in certain PvE situations being worthwhile, when you know there’s strong Steal skills available. Mai Trin would be a great example. What’s better than turning invulnerable for 3 seconds via Drink? Turning invulnerable for 6 seconds, of course!
My Trickery lineup is 1-3-3, so we have no overlap there at all, again assuming the Wiki has the right order. Uncatchable just isn’t good unless you set up for condition damage, whereas Flanking Strikes gives more Fury and a good DPS boost with Quickness. Thrill of the Crime can provide group support, so it’s a legitimate choice too. Bountiful Theft is strong, and I use it in PvP, but Trickster gives me some Condi removal with my heal and utilities, and with the nerf to Shadow Arts condi cleansing that led me to abandon that trait line, I’ll take it anywhere else I can. And finally, unless you’re playing Condi, Sleight of Hand is basically a no-brainer in the grandmaster slot. More Steal, and interrupting Steal, is good stuff. Applying Confusion stacks just doesn’t compare.
So maybe I’m just mixing up the numbers, but as it appears, there’s room for improvement in some of your trait choices. Try out No Quarter and Sleight of Hand and Improvisation and see if you like them. If you don’t, there’s no harm in switching back!
Thanks for the detailed answer, i changed Hidden Killer to No Quartel after all, because i wont be stealthing that much anymore.
Well i used 1 as for the top one, 2for the middle and 3 for the bottom trait. So trill of the chrime-bountiful theft- quick pockets for trickery.
Edit:I also used improviastion for a long time, but because of its randomness i decided to change it for Executinore, which is a nice DPS boost to finish enemies.
Sorry for the doublepost…
I saw a dye on the gw2 wiki, and at its colour there were 3 colours… Why is that?:O
What? Can you link the dye you are referring to?
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Flare_Dye
this one for e.g but i saw it at a few others too
If you mouse over the colors you’ll see that the names are referring to the material it is applied to.
Many dyes looks a bit different if applied to cloth, leather or metal.
Assuming you’re talking about the dye’s icon, that means it’s a gemstore exclusive dye. It can’t be obtained from an Unidentified Dye, it can only be obtained from special dye packs sold on the gem store or occasionally found in Black Lion Chests. Those dyes tend to be more expensive than other ones as a result.
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Flare_Dye
this one for e.g but i saw it at a few others too
https://www.gw2bltc.com/en/tool/dye/search?cloth=dab44d&leather=cbaf61&metal=e2b742&sort=matcher
This site has a tool that finds close matches to more expensive dyes, at least by color.
Flare for instance has the Masterwork grade dye Nectar be reasonably close for cloth, while the fine dye Pastel Lemon is closest for Leather and Metal.
