Hey guys, I finally decided to take the time to get some levels instead of pvping. Now that I’m 80, and have tokens of this and that of such, my primary focus is wvw and clearing content. I’ll link what currency I have so hopefully you guys can give me a good idea what I should use them for (completely lost in this part). I also have 400 in jewelcrafting, and 75 in tailor? (I think I made a mistake with jewelcrafting, it seems reletively useless and doesn’t get me any kind of cool gear..). I also one day want to own a bifrost(I’m an ele)Anyways, this is my current currency:

Laurel: 46
Badges of Honor: 619
Symbols of Koda: 120
Knowledge crystals: 180
Shards of Zaitan: 60

I’m not very sure how to spend this currency, or whether to save it for later. Some people told me to just spend laurels on t6 mats to make money. Is this the most wise decision?

Right now, I have level 76 gear, should I go to the TP and buy some 80 gear, or should I just go with what I have and earn some gear?

I’m also on the level 73 quest for the personal story, should I finish that asap and head into Arah?

What kind of build should I be expected to run for pve? (no explanation needed if someone has a link to the current meta build for ele dungeon running)

Also, the only dungeon I have ever step foot in is Asc Cata, and I’ve noticed if I don’t have an immediate waypoint near the location, or even state I’ve never done the dungeon, I get insta kicked. How do I deal with this?

Also, I’m looking for a good PVE guild to help me learn, I’ve pvped for 2 years, and understand mechanics, I just need a little warming up to pve content and I’m sure I’d be a good asset.

Anyways, thanks a head of time for the help!

Hi corin,

you have lots of interesting questions so my answer is gonna be a bit long.

What should I do with my currencies ?
One of the first thing you can consider is to get yourself to level 80 exotic gear and build yourself a “graphical identity” (in other words look cool). Some people prefer to go for exotic first by the cheapest way and then grind for good looking pieces. Some others prefer to do this all at once.

What kind of activities can I do ?
You expressed your interest in clearing content. I suggest to start by reaching 100% exploration first. Thus you’ll get some money and material that are needed to craft/buy your exotic gear. This will also put you in contact with wvw which is an awesome place in GW2.

I get kicked from ascalonian catacomb ?!
I recommand you start your own group in the lfg tool and put the mention “I need help” in the description. Your group will not fill up as fast as others however you will end up with people that are patient enough to teach you. Alternatively, ask one of the mentors to guide you.
I’m sure you won’t have any problem learning the dungeon, it’s easy as pie compared to spvp.

Also, members of the [rT] guild have written excellent dungeon guides for various professions .

Of all the builds proposed, I recommend the D/F 0/6/0/4/4 to begin with. It’s also a great build for pug.

Do keep in mind that these builds are not optimal when doing megabosses in PvE or zerging in WvW. There are other build (and guides) for this type of content.

We don’t run dungeons all the time, there might be more dungeon oriented guilds out there, but I found this to be a very nice group of people.

If you do a lot of WvW – you can get exotic gear with badges of honour.

You can use your laurels for some ascended items if you like, I would not exchange them just yet for T6, especially not in order to sell them right now.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Laurel_merchant_
You can also get these items through the PvE laurel merchant, cost no badges but 10 more laurels per items if my memory serves.

If you really like to pursue a legendary weapon you may want to start with map completion (you may get some exotic items you can use), next check out the mystic clovers – take it from there to see if you might want to obtain exotics via karma.

You can check out some world bosses, they reward guaranteed rare item chests once a day. They are on a set schedule, you will find the dragontimer on guildwarstemple or dulfy.

Finishing the personal story is more optional. Well I hope that helped a little.

Edit: Guild missions are also an option to obtain some ascended accessories, but it takes a couple of weeks. We run guild missions friday nights and sundays during the day, always fun, fell free to drop in with no obligations (but remember to guest to TC, otherwise you won’t get rewards).

Edit II: Zhed’s armour is just a named exotic http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Seer_armor

“Whose Kitten is this?” – “It’s a Charr baby.”
“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”
“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”

A good first step would be to get a full set of level 80 exotic gear with good stats. Beserkers (glass cannon) is popular for PvE generally or you could check the ele section of the forum for popular builds.

You can buy exotics on the TP with gold, or get them from dungeons with tokens (like the Symbols of Koda, Knowledge Crystals and Shards of Zhaitan you’ve got). You can also buy them from WvW vendors with Badges of Honor or from temples in Orr with Karma but be aware that these ones can’t be salvaged so any runes you put into them will be stuck there. Some people don’t mind that, other people refuse to use them because of it, it’s really up to you.

You also don’t need to get all your gear from one place or with one currency. You might prefer to use a few different ones if you don’t have enough of one kind.

(By the way Jewelry crafting won’t get you cool looking gear, because everything you make is accessories but they are very useful for stats and crafting is the easiest way to get exotics.)

If you want gold (or T6 mats) then trading laurels for them is a good idea. But laurels can be used for a lot of other things too. Have a look through the vendors lists (all laurel vendors sell the same stuff) and see if there’s anything else you’d like.

Finally with dungeons different groups can be very different. Some only want experience people using specific builds, some will take everyone and there’s a lot that fall somewhere in between. Here’s a few tips:

  • If you don’t see a group that appeals to you on the lfg tool make your own listing, be as vague or as specific as you want with the requirements.
  • If you’ve never done that dungeon or that path before say so. If anyone refuses to take you then you’ve saved some time because they would have expected you to know what to do and kicked you as soon as they realised you didn’t. A lot of groups will take you, and it means they’ll know to warn you about things like difficult bosses or sections with special mechanics.
  • I do recommend making sure you’re either in the same map as the dungeon entrance or you have a waypoint in that map before looking for a party. Some of the dungeons are out in the middle of nowhere so walking there can take much longer than finding a party (which is usually quick). You don’t have to be able to get right to the entrance, as long as you’re on the right map you’ll be able to enter the dungeon as soon as someone starts it.

Just to put two things here.

1. Spend karma + BoH in WvW on an Ascended Amulet with an Infusion slot, then slot Karmic Infusion into it. As for what stats to put on the Amulet, do your research before you make this purchase. This will be very important later on both for stat and karma reasons. Make sure you get the WvW vendor for this as it takes less laurels and there’s very few really good uses for Badges of Honor anyway, whereas laurels are the cornerstone of ascended crafting and eventually the strictest timegate.

2. As the others have mentioned, TELL YOUR PARTIES IF YOU ARE NEW. If everyone kicks you after a while, then start your own LFG for the dungeon path stating clearly in the description that you need someone to teach.

There is nothing that annoys people in dungeons more than a dungeon wiping because someone was too proud to admit they didn’t know how to run it, other than hosts ragequitting dungeons. People are generally happy to share what they know, but they need to know in advance that there’s something they need to teach.

Just an update, I’m mostly equipped in exotic zerker gear right now, however I’m lacking an exotic weapon. Any ideas what to do?

I’m assuming that means you don’t have enough gold to buy one on the TP. You can get cheap ones from WvW, but they aren’t salvageable so any sigils you put in them are stuck.

You could also make do with a rare weapon for now, and run Citadel of Flame path 1 for tokens to get an exotic one – these are salvageable, and CoF p1 is the easiest dungeon in the game, so you might have less of a problem with being kicked for being unfamiliar with the path – if you read a guide/watch a video and mention that, it might also help. Make sure you have a waypoint nearby and aren’t joining zerk/exp/Xk AP groups. P2 is also easy and popular.

If you’re keen on dungeons, check out the Noob guild in the dungeon forum – you can find a mentor there to teach you dungeon specifics.
