Please forgive my noobness if this is a dumb question.

But I was just reading another thread and basic gist of it is that the Hearts are not the best source of XP in the game. In fact, they account for very little of your total XP. The best XP apparently comes from Dynamic Events.

But, in my experience so far, these only show up if I happen to be in the right place at the right time. Is that right?

Is there some other way to find them?

I’m sure there must be a web site or something where you can look them up, of course, but if you knew the locations, you would still not know when they are occurring – unless someone announced it in Map chat.

Am I missing something? Or am I supposed to just wander around a lot until I run into an event in progress?

If you go about completing your hearts, DEs tend to occur in the same general areas. Some consist of multiple parts, so when a DE ends be sure to talk to all involved NPCs to see if another stage takes place

In summary: Yes, DEs make up a healthy portion of PvE experience. But follow the hearts for the most efficient way of completing them.

Pretend the NPCs are people you actually care about, and go talk to them once in a while to see if they need help. Don’t bother with generic NPCs like “Worker”, “Farmer”, “Crew worker”, etc. But NPCs that have proper names may need help. So go check on them.

A lot of them even run around asking players for help.

happen to be in the right place at the right time.

This sums up the design intent of Dynamic Events.

In practice, it’s about asking /map if there any events going on and ask a participant or bystander to link the closest Waypoint.

Some areas seem to be somewhat poorly populated by events, however except for some big events like dragons I really do not see why you would go ask /map for some random event just because you want to do “some” event. Like lorazyck explained pay attention to npc’s you don’t always need to talk to them and in fact most of the times it will be apparent when there’s something going on. Either the npc is rushing up to you and actually asking for your help or npc’s talk to each-other and from the conversation you usually can pick if they’re intending to do something and if so that will likely lead to an event.
