Q:
Finding groups?
An LFG tool is going to be released very soon™. GW2LFG is the best bet for finding a dungeon group. If you are having problems finding a group with that, I would suggest either constantly updating your “lfg” by adding a . or removing said . (or other information).
Either that, or simply look to join groups instead of forming your own.
Unless of course if it happens to be story mode that you are interested …
Website, in game lfg, or map chat won’t really matter in that case. Not many people do them and even fewer repeat them. Starting a group for one of those could be a long wait.
I do agree, in that specific case, you’re better off looking for a guild that specifically focuses on dungeons (although currently every guild that recruits is PvX even though they really only focus on one thing, which is either WvW or getting Influence).
And yes, I’m lumping every guild together (even the guilds that don’t do just those two), because most guilds just do those two things.
Esplen that’s kind of funny because I was about to recommend joining a guild because if you get a good one people will often come and do dungeons just to help out, even if they don’t really need it.
That’s how I’ve gotten most of my groups. My guild is genuinely PvX, I think our leader is mainly into WvW and PvP but the rest of us are all over the place. It’s not a big guild, hovers around 100 people but I can usually find 4 other people to do a dungeon when I feel like it.
Other than that spamming map chat. I’ve never used that lfg site because so far I haven’t needed to and when I have looked it’s been all people who are in-game spamming chat anyway. It does help a lot if you can do it at your servers peak time. I normally do dungeons on weekends and I wait until about mid-afternoon to start so there’s a lot of people on.
Oh and finally if you’re willing to take people who aren’t experienced and/or you’re not doing a speed run say so. A lot of people seem to assume all groups only want people who have done the dungeon 100’s of times before and won’t even ask. I’ve found it’s a lot quicker to tell people I’ll take anyone, and since I’m hardly a dungeon expert I don’t mind if they make mistakes too.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Yeah, I know. There used to be Dungeon only guilds, which had 200-500 members in them scattered across multiple worlds and they would be used to get dungeon groups ridiculously fast. But then a little bit after fractals came out, people stopped dungeoning (at least, in “Puguilds”) even though they were amazing.
The guilds in the game have degenerated into PvX guilds which force (yes force) players to represent them at all times. It’s disgusting. I was guesting on this one guild that had Guild Missions on a good day for me, but 3 weeks in I started getting spam from officers for not representing and then I got kicked. Now I have another guild for Guild Missions which doesn’t require me to rep, but they’re not consistent.
And, while I may hate on guilds for being PvX, I’m only hating on PvX guilds because they’re not really that good. Now if you’re in a smaller guild that’s “PvX” that’s fine because it’s a small community/family, which means that you will do what everyone wants to do (for the most part). But if you’re in a 450 PvX guild, that just means that you have a ton of members that do their own thing and you’ll have these cliques that start to appear. These 5 people always dungeon together. These 8 people do Fractals. etc, etc, etc. The only thing everyone in that guild does would be WvW together, when a lot of them are on.
I know I’m overgeneralizing again, but bear with me.
Instead of being a WvW guild that allows people to rep whenever they want to WvW, they say they’re a PvX guild that doesn’t really do PvX (there’s no way you can PvX in a single guild). Yes, you can lead 5 guilds, have one guild be WvW, one guild be Dungeons, one guild be Map Completion, one guild be World Bosses, and one guild be PvP. But that’s actually better than having one guild that’s PvX (even if all of those guilds are led by the same person).
Here’s why.
If someone wants to do PvP, they can talk to people who PvP instead of trying to ask in a gigantic clusterf chat where there’s 500 people trying to talk at once (yeah this never happens, but hush). If someone wants to do world events, they don’t need to call out in Guild chat and annoy everyone who’s trying to grab Green EB Keep (not that they’re paying attention to the chat anyways). If someone wants to call a world event, they don’t need to bother people doing dungeons.
The list goes on. The whole point of the represent multiple guilds is that people would be able to BE IN MULTIPLE GUILDS not just have a bank guild, another bank guild, another bank guild, another bank guild, and your PvX guild.
I guess this is why I’m a solo player, and while I’m in 4 guilds, 2 of them consist of me, one of them is guild missions which I guest, and the final one is that old AR guild I started up.
Eh, I don’t think I conveyed my message very well here… and I’m ranting off topic. :D
