Here’s just what I’m rolling with…

10 points in fire – Internal Fire
30 points in earth – Earth’s Embrace, Geomancer’s Freedom, and Written in Stone
30 points in arcane – Elemental Attunement, Blasting Staff, and Evasive Arcana

Putting the 10 points for internal fire increases damage while attuned to fire 10%, and the Enduring damage trait (comes at 25 points in Earth) gives 10% bonus while the endurance bar is full… as a staff wielder I tend to use burning retrat long before using any endurance and from the difference in aggro when I got it I believe the two 10% bonuses stack.

Though I’m not afraid to swap attunments, if you’re looking to stay in fire forever then you’ll prolly want a different build than my choice.

I roll with(leveled to 80 with this build pretty much)and still use:

30/10/30/0/0

With Internal Fire, Pyromancer’s Alacrity, and Pyromancer’s Puissance fire skills.
One with Air for the Air skill. You’ll be able to run around with almost permanent swiftness, though that takes a little bit of time to charge up.
Signet Mastery, Earth’s Embrace, and Written in Stone for earth skills.

This is my “Lazymans Build” I would call it. It lets you keep signet buffs up and still be able to use them. I tend to stick primarily to Fire.

For single target I open with Flame Burst to get burn going, then Signet of Earth(if it’s a melee mob) while dropping Lava Font at it’s feet. By the time you cast Signet of Fire and Signet of Air and toss a fireball or two your Lava Font will be back up and ready to go again. Drop another Lava Font right in front of you as the mob approaches and it should be dead in the next 2 seconds. For longer fights try to use Signet of Earth in conjunction with Lava Font all the time, to ensure it does its full damage.

If the mob is a ranged attacker, just forget about Signet of Earth.

For groups of mobs and dungeons, open with Flame Burst when it looks like you can hit multiple. Try to let your group(if it’s a dungeon) settle in with the mobs before you start dropping Meteor Shower. Then keep Lava Font hitting as many as possible while cycling through your Signets.

Lava Font will do a lot of your damage, since the cooldown is going to be very close to its duration.

In dungeons I like to switch to Water to drop Geyser and Healing Rain into the middle of the fight, then Frozen Ground and Ice Spike on top of as many mobs as possible. Then swap to Earth while waiting for fire to come back up. Use Magnetic Aura if there’s mobs with projectiles, then Eruption, Unsteady Ground, and Shockwave. You may get another Unsteady Ground in before you go back to Fire and continue your normal rotation.

For your elite skill the D-Series Golem(Asura only) is probably the best. It can and will tank vet/champs and bosses. Though for the harder hitting types it doesn’t last too long. You can usually kill a Veteran mob with it with ease though. Tornado is another good one, does decent damage and crowd control. Fun if you like tossing enemies all over the place for the duration. The Glyph of Elementals and Fiery Greatsword aren’t terrible either.

Burning Retreat I almost only use when a melee mob rushes me. I’ll let it come through the fire, then roll forward through it so it chases me through the fire again. From there you’re on your own to get it off you :p

This is a pretty simple build, and I play it as such.

The Elementalist can be played much more complicated and built in many different ways. This is probably one of the easiest ways to play it. If you want something more challenging you should try one of the dual wielding builds where you cycle through every attunement constantly
