I struggle with decision what ascended armor to craft.
Returned to GW2 after 2 years month+ ago and spent lot of time farming soin few days I will be able to craft whatever full ascended set I want.
Problem is I am not able to decide which one…
As for now I have 2× lev 80 – war and mesmer. But also have (various levels) necro thief and guard.
I would like to get armor set which is bis for PvE&WvW for as many classes as possible because I will have no willpower to farm another anytime soon.

What would be your suggestions?
TY

Maybe make ascended weapons first?

From what the number crunchers on the forums have said, you get more bang for your buck with weapons. Not only is armor more expensive to craft but the stat gain from a full set is less. In addition, you can farm the mats for the weapons directly, which you can’t do for the cloth needed.

Armor, one calculation: Source
“Below is the stat increase for a heavy berserker armor set (lets face it, it’s the most popular)
Defense: +55
Power: +14
Precision: +11
Crit damage: +1%
+6 Defensive Infusion slots
that’s less than one ruby orb”

From what I’ve read, ascended weapons are a 5% increase in stats. Not much but higher than armor. If you still want to do armor, heavy is cheaper than light because of the amount of silk used. You can either go by cost or how many you have you can switch a set between.

Depends on the profession you enjoy the most/are wanting to make you main. If you like mesmer, go with cloth. If you prefer warrior go with heavy, though heavy will only be able to be placed onto the two professions, so it limits you a little that way.

As for the type of ascended…it’s up to you. Most go with Zerker, as that’s the meta.

Thanx
I should wrote I have already crafted GS which I use both on war and mesmer
As for now I have ascended – 23 cloths 15 ingots etc
So in 2 days I can craft heavy or medium or in 11 days light.
It does not metter which one price wise for now – but it has to be last armor set I will craft for a loooong time

Problem really is I enjoy both war & mesmer… but also necro and guard… have not played thief that much yet… probably do not want to create new toon because these are all 2 years old – ie even if low levels they have all traits ; )

Full-glass thieves benefit the most from ascended armor of any class, as their hp pool is very small, their healing skills are generally pathetic, and they lack invulnerability skills making damage mitigation a far greater priority than for most other classes. The relative importance of the defense increase to a warrior is much lower as they already have a lot (and an OP healing signet), and the relative importance of it to an elementalist is much lower as they have plenty of blocks/invulns/heals to throw around.

Before you embark on ascended crafting though, I would like to caution that the effect gains to be had are very minimal, and markedly inferior to the stat gains from using cheap food (5 silver or less) or cheap utilities (2-3 copper priced potions for type-classified mobs, 8 copper-priced Skale venom for everything else under the sun). Never use ascended unless you’re already using consumables, or you may find you’re spending literally thousands of times more for less than half the effect. Or as the case may be, making less profit – the additional XP offered by the use of consumables may more than pay for themselves from the increased skill point acquisition rate.

Within the armor types, the chestpiece and leggings give the most effect for investment. The stat gains to be had by upgrading the other 4 pieces are in the region of 4 stat points, even though they still require at least 4 damasks each – 3 for the insignia and 1 for the equipment itself in non-light classes.

I’d kit your characters out in asc chestpieces and leggings first before adding gloves/boots/helms/shoulders later on, instead of making full BiS one character at a time.

TY.
I am quite aware difference exotic – ascended is 5% only.
It is more about feeling- to have the best

As for now I tend to go for zerker heavy for following reasons:
- it is meta for both war and guard in pretty much every game mode
- on contrary cloth classes – while in PvE zerker is mandatory – can use conditions builds to high extent. So for both mesmer and necro zerker armor may not be BIS.
- will be able to craft it 11 days earlier
- due the high defense nature of heavy armor +5% is much more beneficial then on light in absolute numbers
- ascended heavy looks quite good in opposite to light which looks like …… (personal opinion)
- I am enjoying war more then mesmer in high aggro/higg mob concentration zones (Silverwastes)
- seems to me war can do more dps with lower effort while being less squishy

Weapons have maybe 0.5% increase in stats and a full set of armor has 1%.

Weapons have however 5% higher base-damage and armor has 5% more base defense, however only if you play on level 80. As soon as you are mentored down below 80 these values are the same than exotics.

Its 1% better total stats for your character even if its maybe 5% better compared to
an exotic piece.
That was also very good visible when we had the old crit-damage stat, a whole set
of armor gave exactly +1% more crit-damage.

I recall it being cheaper to craft heavy ascended compared to cloth so I’d suggest that tbh. I have heavy ascended and think it looks great too
