Guild Wars 2

Hey guys !

I’m new to the game and i seek advice from experienced players to choose a class !

I know what kind of gameplay i’m searching for, and if it was just the standard GW2 classes i might have been able to choose on my own. But with the elites specializations, the recent changes ,and everything that’s been going on on the forum, i’m at a loss

-I’m searching something for both PVE and PVP.
-A dynamic class with a kind of high risk, high reward play-style
-I love pulling hard tricks/combo, having to make judgement on the fly and adapt to situations.
-In PVE i don’t mind being a support, i often find them funnier than a boring DPS rotation. I don’t want to be a moving buff turret though.
-In PVP however i would prefer some ranged glass canon/trickster. I don’t really like brainless bashing machine, so something with kitting and positioning is good.
-I would also like something that can perform decently. I’m not searching for the OP but i know how frustrating it can be to be underwhelming.

That’s it for my shopping list.

What do you think about Mesmer or Engie ? Looks like they have a similar gameplay ?

From reading your post, I would recommend either mesmer or engineer. Mesmer are what I am more familiar with, so I’ll give more insight to it. Mesmer is a jack of all trades class. It can do almost everything a group would require and can solo quite nicely.

Support is available via boon sharing and wells. Mesmer can do decent dps, both power and condi. Like I said, they are a Swiss army knife.

You don’t think Elementalist could fit ?

My 4 main characters are elementalist, engineer, thief, mesmer.
I’d go with either elementalist or pistol/pistol thief.

Try making one of each, then entering the PvP lobby and practicing in the lobby on the practice dummies.

I would not suggest making a pist/pistol thief. P/P thief is very basic and easy to play in both PvP and PvE. I would suggest running the condi engi build. If you’re looking for high risk, high reward this is the perfect class for you. Not only does it take a lot of time to learn how to master the 30 abilities you need to rotate between to get the highest DPS in the game, but you also need to know how to survive because you need to both get up in your opponents face and range them. Full kit condi engi is strictly PvE, though the full condi is only PvE, there are condi builds for PvP that are very powerful, however, you don’t use all of the kits you would use in PvE.

Additionally, I wouldn’t recommend ele mainly because there are many other classes that can do nearly everything better than an ele, with the exception of healer. As it stands, an aura tempest can out heal a druid. Warriors can stack might better than they can, engi and reaper can do more damage and condi damage.

I was disappointed by Elementalist, their damage seems to be lacking a lot compared to Engineer or Mesmer. I even tryed some combos i found on the metabattle site, but even this way they do not compare to the 2 other.

They look like the hardest class to master though, so i might be doing it really wrong :p. Does it get better with skill/Levels ? Because i was looking forward to them for the support build in PVE

Since you are newish to the game, I have to ask if you played around with what runes/amulets and specializations each class had. Just to get the full impression of an elementalist.
If you did, and it’s not your thing that’s cool.

Since you played all those Classes I guess the question is not random :p
