So I know that you have a chance of getting flax fiber from Flax harvesting nodes – But it seems so rare, even if its a common material.

Is there some tricky way to get these, because of all the flax ive harvested, and I have harvested a lot, I have only recieved 2 flax fibers so far – where I think I’ve harvested over 600 seeds. o.O

Rare stuff drops, um, rarely from harvesting. 2 from 600 tries seems low compared to Passiflora from Passion Fruit nodes, but then again, that’s why they added blooming passiflora nodes to Southsun.

You could use buffs to increase your chance of bonus, but I don’t think you’ll see a big difference.

To me it just seems way off, since you need about 150 flax fiber to make 1 Cotten Rope, or something along those lines :/

WvW players need loads of these because they are always destroying each other’s creations.

That’s why your PvE stuff is expensive.

I harvest the verdant brink flax farm spot daily on all toons. Each toon almost always gets 1-2 fibres a day from the patch. You can also get them from jungle plants.

Not sure really how 600 has only got you 2, but always ensure you use gathering buffs – that will help.

after a round of gathering …

8 gathers – 13 seeds, 1 flower, 1 fiber
10 gathers – 16 seeds, 1 flower, 1 fiber
10 gathers – 16 seeds, 0 flower, 2 fiber
8 – 14, 0, 0
11 – 16, 0, 2
8 – 15, 0, 1
10 – 15, 0, 0
10 – 15, 0, 1
10 – 15, 0, 1
8 – 14, 0, 0

so that is
1.6 seeds per gather
.02 flowers per gather
.09 fiber per gather

all with a 20% guild gathering boost

nodes aren’t the exclusive source for seeds so unless you are certain that you haven’t gotten any from anything that is not 600 gathers. each gather also averages more than 1 seed so it is not 600 gathers regardless

You may want to consider that a flax fiber is currently running at about 10s, and flax seeds are currently running around 2s, at the sell/buy prices respectively.

Which means that when you harvest flax you are getting one flax fiber for every six seeds you obtain – simple sell the seeds on the TP, and purchase the fibers with the money you receive. (and probably 5:1 or 4:1 if you are patient and use the sell price for seeds, and buy price for fibers.)

I mean, I grant you that it’s annoying not to be able to harvest your own, and I certainly feel your pain because I finally levelled a scribe this week, but … it’s not like hunting maguuma lillies where the drops from jungle plants are otherwise pretty much worthless…
