Sorry if this question has been asked a bunch ….

I’m confused about fractals. How do they work? Are they just dungeon instances?

You get ascended gear from them, right? If so, are there certain fractals you need ascended gear to complete because of agony resistance or something like that?

I use to play lotro where you needed radiance gear to do some instances. I didn’t know if it was like that.

Also, what fractal is good for a neebie to do first?

They are instances, like small dungeons.

You don’t get ascended gear till level 10 from which also agony kicks in. You could however create the ascended backpiece if you get the ascended essence drop or whatever it’s called and have a lot of gold.

And last you can’t pick fractals it’s random.

Do keep in mind that you have to complete 3 or 4 instances to gain a level.

Just give it a try and you will learn it.

There are like 9 different fractals. When you start the dungeon, it picks a random one and you play through it. You then get rewards, and it takes you to a different random one (you will never play 2 of the same fractals in the same run through). rewards, takes you to a different random one. So that’s 3 fractals.
Now, if you’re on an odd number level (1, 3, 5, 7, etc.), it will take you back to the starting area but this time on level 2. from here you can leave or start level 2.
If you’re on an even number level (2, 4, 6, 8, etc.), it will take you to the maw fractal with the giant tentacle boss (4th fractal). when you beat it, you get another chest of rewards. The first time you beat this fractal each day, you also get a daily fractals chest which contains more fractal relics, pristine fractal relic (if level 10+, I think it’s a bag of coins if not), and a chance of getting an ascended ring (if level 10+).
I’m guessing you have about a 1 in 4 chance of getting an ascended ring from daily.
In a recent patch they added the pristine fractal relic. take 10 of those to the shop in the fractal starting area to buy any ascended ring you want.
