What do you guys use to fraps gw2? I know of the 2 common ones, but I am looking for a free one without time constraints. Any suggestions?

As far as I know, no freeware will offer the same quality and lack of time constraints.
In my opinion, it’s definitely worth shelling out the money for it.

MSI Afterburner is free, check it out. It’s based on Riva Tuner and has a lot of features from tinkering with your card (overclocking and related stuff) to capturing screenshots and video without time limitations.

I paid for fraps a couple years ago, and it’s still pretty good. The other one I tried was dxtory with lagarith, which has several cool features that fraps doesn’t have. One day, if I feel fraps isn’t meeting my needs, I’ll try that first. Oh, and it’s not free.

I paid $40 for fraps and I don’t regret it, I tried all of the free screen capture programs to try and find a free alternative, but you get what you pay for, the free ones are crap.

I use fraps, works nicely. Not free tho.. but worth it. You can record with the Enjin game app, but i think it might be limited on time you can record.

And yes, I use fraps to fraps. (that sounds dirty….)

Bad thing about fraps is it makes several files @3.9g each. Wish it could record in .mp4 format so the files wouldn’t be so large.

Its good if you have a large harddrive. Then just use a program to compress, windows movie maker works fine. Then delete original. A lil more work but good quality.

I started by using FRAPs for my Youtube channel and found that while the quality was top notch it did have an issue with FPS drop in GW2 and a couple of others games I used to record. Just last week I started using Dxtory and the FPS drop is substantially less however I did have an issue with one large file it churned out in as much as Sony Vegas (the program I use to edit) had issues with processing. Id personally prefer it churned out many smaller files instead of one large one in case of issues but ive yet to find out how.

In summary, use Dxtory. You can also separate sound channels if you wish, so you can record microphone input separately from game sound so you can remove/edit each separately. Hell, if you use an audio repeater you can separate game sound, microphone and Teamspeak into three separate audio streams. The latter ive not managed to do successfully however but it is possible.

Yea when I fraps I use movie maker to edit / put together then I convert it to mp4 / 1080p with Adobie Media Manager

The Enjin In-game Client screen recorder.
It is free, records screen and audio in superb quality/fps, there is no record time limit that I know of and the UI is clean and easy to use. Way better than Fraps IMO.

Dxtory is the best options wise but requires fast write speeds to take full advantage of.

I personally use Afterburner since it’s free and takes a much lower performance hit than Fraps.

Thanks guys…a lot of options to choose from. I tried using Xfire last night, but was unable to get the client to recognize GW2 as an installed game. Oh well, I’ll try some of the suggestions above.
