Q:
"Full Magic Find"
Pirate/Traveler Superior runes grant something like 65% all on their own.
Superior Sigil of Luck grants another 15% when at a full 25 stack.
I have 45% from gear. Another 60% from my sigils. Plus 15% from Sigil of Luck(When fully stacked), plus 30% Omnomberry Bars.
So 150% when I’m fully buffed.

Explorer’s gear gives 18%, two weapons for another 6%, Superior Sigil of Luck for 15%, Accessories gives 15% with another 18% from gems, runes give 60%, and then there is food for 30%.

162% bonus magic find
And then you miss combat stats which makes every encounter take twice as long. Then you have the anti-farm code. And finally you notices MF is not worth the effort at all, and go flip on the TP to afford your things.
My story.
I have a basic MF set right now and run at around 70% with omnom bar active (although with the freaking TP down all the time I’ve now run out and can’t restock), but the above post is something I’ve really been wondering about. I definitely see a larger number of mob drops now that I geared up for MF, but I’m wondering if the fact that I’m basically missing something like 1/2 of my potential damage/survivability stats is really COSTING me somehow.
I wish I was mathematician enough to do some real comparisons.
Anybody know if there is some kind of sweet spot, or soft cap for true utility in MF?
Explorer gear has prec/power so you’re not really costing yourself damage stats unless you’re big into condition damage.

In a game that isn’t focused upon DPS values, who cares if you get the job done 3-5 seconds later than the guy in full combat stat gear? I like my shinies, so I’ll be specin’ into Magic Find asap.
If you spec full magic find, you wouldn’t be too powerful correct? So if I do this, will mobs be too difficult in open pve? I’m sure using a full magic find would be horrible in dungeons, but I would use it to farm more open pve events and such.
Also, is putting the money into this gear worth it? I’m just not sure if I want to spend all of my money on the runes along with the explorer’s rare lvl 80 set.
Holy cow, I didn’t realize that’s what magic find did until this thread encouraged me to actually look it up.
Also you may purchase Magic Find Boosters from the Gem Store for another 50%

If you use magic find gear vs other sets, you are only missing out on one individual stat. So, no, magic find gear is not awful for dungeons. But dungeons are awful for farming, so dont go there if you want to make money/get items.
I got a full set of magic find gear , but i can’t make up my mind if i should use 2x 1 hand weapon with opal orb which give me another 6% more.. or just use my main weapon 2 hand staff . would changing weapon before looting work ?
What’s the purpose of raising the stat above %100?
Does the increased chance carry over in the loot table? i.e. 2 magic items per drop?

I’m not sure how this game works, but in other games it would work like this – Mob has % chance to drop: No item, White item, Blue, Green, Yellow, Exotic.
Lets use yellow as example; a given mob has say 1% chance to drop a yellow item. With 100% MF that mob now has a 2% chance to drop the item. With 150% MF the mob now has a 2.5% chance to drop a yellow item.

I use the runes, and the food. I have 5 runes of the traveler, and 1 rune of the pirate (actually 2, since it’s on my helmet so I have it on my aquabreather too.. supposedly this gives a 2/6 bonus but I don’t know, because when I’m under water I’m not really wearing my helmet and when I’m on land I’m not really wearing my aquabreather).
That’s +60%
Omnomberry bar is 30%
So I run with 90%. Then there’s guild banners and boosts I get from the chests if I get lucky enough to have a key. So I could get 150%
What am I missing from using those runes?
Not that much, really.
I don’t really like most of the rune sets, I suppose the best I could do is use unadorned orbs.
But let’s put it this way.. my guildies don’t use MF, I do. They complain they get nothing but blues from events.. I almost always walk out with a yellow.

seems like the effect is more than that but I can’t back that with solid numbers. I just know that when I do events at 90% I get yellows frequently.
