Hello,

My roommate is having some trouble with their wifi speed and I’m trying to figure how much of the connection I’m eating up when I do my normal stuff on my own PC.

Does anyone know how much download/upload bandwidth Guild Wars 2 uses in intensive settings such as world bosses or big WvW fights?

I’ve recently started dual boxing GW2 with a couple accounts, one key farming while the other does whatever is actually fun. And I also sometimes watch netflix at the same time.

I tried to use the speedtest website to see how much of my total bandwidth I’m using up (speedtest says the total is about 60Mbps) but when I tried running speedtest on my laptop while running two instances of GW2 and Netflix and VOIP on my PC it didn’t seem to affect my laptop’s speedtest at all. Every time I tested it it was around 57~60 Mbps.

I always thought at least Netflix used a lot of the internet connection but here speedtest is telling me it’s hardly significant at all?

I’m just trying to figure out if I should stop dual boxing so often so my roommate won’t have crummy internet or if it actually doesn’t make a big difference at all.

P.S. In case some misinformed ppl show up, “dual boxing” is quite allowed and okay and I’ve emailed support to confirm this for both GW1 and GW2. If the Trading Post guy on youtube can have 100 accounts trading and crafting at the same time then I can certainly have 2 accounts. :P

The game, while playing, takes only 50-300Kb/s so it’s not bandwidth that’s limiting your roommate.

And while dual boxing is allowed if either account is detected as running with more than “1 key, 1 action per account”, they will be banned.

Bandwidth tested during world boss zerg at noon pacific. It’s not exactly dial-up friendly but you’ll never notice it on your connection.

His problems are local to his computer, he should probably clean it out, update drivers, get rid of all the crapware he has, etc.

Dual boxing is allowed, but if it causes any problems you’re on your own, Support won’t help you. What isn’t allowed is controlling more than 1 account at a time. If you push 1 and one character on one account uses their auto-attack while any others you’re logged into just stand there then that’s ok. If two characters on two different accounts attack simultaneously then that’s in the same category as botting and could get both accounts banned.

Anyway, to answer the original question my computer says the same as Behellagh, although I haven’t tested it during a WvW zerg clash overall the bandwidth useage is pretty low.

Thanks for the info! I didn’t know about that program so I’ll use it myself and get my own hard data.

And thanks for clarification on what’s allowed when running two accounts. I don’t use macros and I just have one game on each of my monitors and I switch back and forth, leveling my keyfarmers with crafting in between events on my main account. (Makes me feel like I’m not wasting time when I’d otherwise be standing around waiting for the next world boss to spawn or just standing doing nothing while I cap a point in WvW)
