Hey, it might be a silly question, but I’m not sure about it. I’m moving to Japan for about a year in a few months. Will I be able to play GW2 while in Japan?

Yes. You can play the game from anywhere that has internet. The main problem is ping if it’s a long way from where the data center is located.

But is it worse or better than Australia/New Zealand? I’m assuming slightly better.

His ping may depend if his data center is EU or NA. Japan would be closer to the EU center in Germany than the one in Texas.

It works fine here in Japan, where I play from. I often play with my friend in NZ who seems to have more problems with lag than I do. If anything the time zone difference will be the biggest problem.

I also play from Japan.

Generally, broadband in Japan is lightning fast (my first speed test in 2012 ran 226mb/s), especially compared with NZ/Australia

Speed doesn’t really matter (unless it is too slow), latency matters in MMOs.
Try to make a speed test to a server in Austin, TX , and see the ping time.

BTW I think that play from Japan will be much smoother than from NZ or AUS since there are good backbone connections from Japan to US, but I’m not sure about Japan to EU.
