I’m planning to revisit GW1 and get my GWAMM (and possibly 50/50).

Quick question, is it possible to do my cartographer without texmod? I’m not exactly a fan of third party programs….

Is it at least usable on Linux via WINE?

(Thread title keeps getting censored when I say Texmod)

Yes it’s possible.

All text mod does is change the colour of the fog over the map to make it easier to see which areas still need to be uncovered. It makes it much quicker to see where you still need to go but it doesn’t change the actual process at all.

I have no idea if it works on Linux though because I’ve never used it.

The game worked ok in Wine when last I played it. That was maybe early 2012. I think it was the default version that came with Open SuSE 11.3. Unless there’s been some regression GW1 should still run fine under Wine.

One note I do recall having to run it in Windowed mode back then with the -dx9 argument on the launch command. That may have changed.

Keep in mind though that TexMod was approved by Anet as a tool for unfogging things. It’s not illegal as far as I know.

While it is possible to get 100% map coverage without TexMod, I think you’ll find that once you hit 99%, it becomes really hard to find those missing bits and pieces. Eventually I just caved, and used TexMod anyway. And it made it a lot easier.

There’s also a few places where you can get outside the map bounds, and unfog a bit more than you would usually be able to. That is a great trick to get that extra percentage.

Such as outside the Icecaves of Sorrow (just click some of the hills in the explorable to leave the map bounds), or during the Frostgate mission (use consume corpse to teleport down to where Rurik is walking), or by teleporting outside during the Dunes of Despair mission, or by teleporting past the zone portal outside Eredon Terrace (use an assassins teleport to teleport to one of the npc’s once he has walked past the portal).

Ever seen Amityville Horror? If you want to avoid a slowly on-setting madness that will lead to attempted murder on everyone you love, you’ll use Texmod to get Cartographer.
