Hello all,
I am currently looking for a gaming headset that has amazing sound quality but also amazing microphone quality.
I’ve been looking at a few that strike my fancy:
1) http://www.turtlebeach.com/product-detail/pc-headsets/ear-force-z300/369
-
2) http://www.razerzone.com/gb-en/store/razer-kraken-71-classic
for starters, but I was wondering what the community has and what they feel is best to use.
What will I be using them for?
- Guild Wars 2 sound
- iTunes and YouTube music
- Teamspeak 3 and Skype.
cheers!
Heya!
In my experience, wireless peripherals are a no-no. Of course, nowadays everyone and their aunt are wireless, but I think it still matters. Going cabled will eliminate any issues you could have with a battery; it also removes the hassle of charging stuff. In my experience, it’s also better latency. Less wireless clutter. So I wouldn’t pick 1).
As for 2) – Razer has good merchandise, but keep in mind it’s branded (not by Kralkatorik, but by Razer). You can probably buy un-branded headphones for 3x less, at the same quality. I’m mentioning this because you didn’t include bling-bling in your list of important things.
My solution is an amazing un-branded headset. The microphone picks up everything from 10 metres away, which could be bad, but is so far awesome. The sound quality is amaze as well. So don’t be shy to try alternative brands! Sometimes it’s better quality and it also helps break up those annoying trends and monopolies!
Good luck!
Hello all,
I am currently looking for a gaming headset that has amazing sound quality but also amazing microphone quality.
In this case you shouldn’t look at headsets. Usually the microphones perform pretty badly. "Gaming"headsets are most of the time totally overpriced for what they offer.
Instead of buying a headset you could easily buy Sony MDR-V55 headphones and add a decent desktop microphone to it.
pffff crappy razer…
Sennheiser is the only brand I have used for like 15 years lol. PC360 is the current one I have, though I know there are newer variants. Not only is the sound great, but mic is fantastic. And they are they only ones I have found with good ear shapes, most go wierd and make them way too small or almost square.
Dawdler is spot on, Sennheiser is far superior to Razer, the difference is that Razer spend way more on marketing than Sennheiser
I don’t own one but a friend of mine does (a X320 for his XBOX) and the sound quality is amazing, and I know that there are way better models out there.
I told a lie, I currently have something that gives me amazing sound quality – I just want something that will make my microphone not sound kitten as I am currently using a webcam microphone to talk into.
So I’m still looking online for an extremely powerful headset with a powerful microphone or just a powerful standalone microphone would be great but it seems hard to find what’s right to buy.
I super recommend the HyperX Cloud. Great options, braided cables, lightweight, solid peripherals, and fairly inexpensive.
If you want something more expensive, I really like the Astro A40 (my present headset). Great sound! Probably the best I’ve ever heard. But they’re very heavy & don’t have braided cords.
I use the Logitech G930. Great 7.1 surround sound. You can tell which side sounds are coming from. Nice and loud. Great microphone. You wont get any background noise on teamspeak unless its as loud as you are. It also mutes when you put it in the up position. 3 Year warrenty if anything ever goes wrong with them.
Its wireless and ive never had any problems with it cutting out or anything and has great range. If you need to you can charge it via micro usb cable it comes with while you are using it. I had to send it in only once because of a plastic peice that cracked when my infant son knocked it off my head and onto the hardwood floor. They replaced it no problem even though the warrenty was just a few months from experation. Just make sure you keep the receipt or an image of it.

I been using Corsair’s wireless Vengeance set. Really good quality and no noise.
My vote is Sennheiser PC310. Wired, of course. On-Ear, not Over-Ear.
Sound and mic pickup is flawless.

Some issues I have after 4 years using mine.
1. foam mic cover has kitten in it (probably from screaming obscenities at ganking thieves).
2. coating on head pad has worn off.
3. glue holding cloth ear pads has released; Periodically I have to tuck cloth back into1t place.
Being wired, you have to deal with the cable.
It has in-line volume (and On/Off).
I can wear the set all evening comfortably (not too heavy, stays in place).
In my experience, wireless peripherals are a no-no.
