Hey guys. I’ve been playing for about a week now and to be honest I read and watch videos more than play.

Well, given the infinite amount of possibilities I have some features that I want in my char. Maybe you can help me choose a profession and a weapon that suits it.

1) I wanna be able to jump in the fight, mobs or people, I don’t want to have to run around like crazy trying to avoid the combat.

2) I want a good balance between DPS and Survivability, I mean, I don’t have to be the most offensive character in the party and I don’t want to be the 1 hit dead too. (Like the regular mage for example, in all MMOs).

3) I don’t want to have to change my build for PvP or PvE, if its possible I wanna handle myself ok in both, depending more of my abilities than the build itself.

Sorry if I’m asking too much, but just some directions would be reeeeally appreciated.

Cya!

Guardian is the obvious choice. You have melee and ranged weapons, so allowing for you to leap right into the combat or stay and range and support (note, the range isn’t a large one, however). Greatsword skill 3 is great for getting into combat, for instance. I like to run that, followed by skills 4 then 2, then back out a bit, swapping to staff and using skill 4 to give might to anyone that’s nearby (though playing solo I probably wouldn’t bother switching over to staff).

You have very quick access to very strong, useful skills that everyone can benefit from (or just yourself if you’re running solo). You can focus on DPS or support – your DPS isn’t going to be as high as a Warrior, say, but it will get the job done well enough, especially in PvE, and your support skills are really great for both PvE and PvP. Survivability on a Guardian is almost second to none (skilled elementalists may wish to differ, and Necromancers are pretty tanky too if specced out correctly).

If you like to juggle skills a little more, then Elementalist is another great class that can be specced towards DPS or healing/support, and they have better mobility than Guardians, but are much squishier in general. Staff is brilliant for support, and daggers are best for DPS (some would argue here, but I think it’s a speed thing – staff is slower than daggers).

It’s possible with both classes to find a build that works well for both PvE and PvP, though maybe Guardian is a bit easier on this score (though this bit is totally personal opinion, and I don’t speak from great experience as I don’t regularly PvP).

Necro might not be a bad idea. I have two builds I use for my necro and I’ve used them both with some success in both PvP and PvE. Admittedly, that’s on the casual side of PvP rather than a tournament so your mileage may vary. Deathshroud helps absorb a lot of damage, being functionally a second health bar and you have a high base health as well.

Of course a lack of stability and ability to deal with projectiles can cause some difficulty in PvE, but usually you’ll have one or two others that can deal with them in your party.
