Getting Zero Loots in Big Events
Have to do a certain amount of damage, it seems the more damage you do, the higher the chance of loot. As far as I can tell, getting the killing blow also guarantees loot more or less. Seems being in a group increases your chance of getting loot in these events, too.
Also, since there’s only one enemy type in Orr (Risen), you’re going to hit the loot cap if you play there for more than ~30mins straight. I rarely even bother with Orr anymore, which sucks because Cursed Shore’s the only level 80 area.
the more likely reason you aren’t getting loot is that you are hitting diminishing returns. As long as you haven’t hit DR, you can still get loot by AOE bombing the events. You only needs a few ticks of damage to ensure you get it.
They didn’t really remove mob tagging, now you’re just lucky to get a hit in and get loot as a result. The reverse engineering of PvE competition mechanics was a bust as far as im concerned.
Compared to GW1, the combat and synergy between players is so zerg-tastic and shallow, it makes angels cry.
Uhm, I farmed dynamic events in cursed shore today for about 2 hours without hitting any sort of “cap” where I stopped getting rewards.
Oh and they were the same event (path of arah, we failed like 3 times before we succeeded)

My 80 Guardian doesn’t get any loot at all any more from the dynamic events in Orr. Changing zones, killing a variety of creatures, killing nothing at all for 2 hours while still logged in, swapping to my other 80’s in the same and different zones and then back — nothing fixes it. He gets a white bone and a blue dust every few minutes (hitting countless creatures with his whirlwind attacks in dynamic events) but never anything else. Perma diminishing returns for him (essentially zero returns, really), so now he just mines ore nodes and that’s pretty much all of the loot he gets.
It really bothers me because I spent a decent chunk of time and money making an armor/accessory set with maxed magic find for farming. With MF booster and food I’ve got almost 250%, more if someone dropped a guild banner, but with the amount of mobs I kill I get capped after 20 minutes… so unless I keep farming in an inferior zone I lose all benefit from the remaining 40 minutes of the booster I paid quite a lot of silver for in currency exchange. Did that math and I’m actually losing money using them, so I don’t anymore. One more useless gem store item I have no need for, and another gem store item Anet won’t be making any money off of when everyone realizes it.
Orr mobs doesn’t drop much crap for me anymore even when I’m not capped. Like a 5 min invasion event, I probably get like 5-10 loot from dead bodies.
Ryce, I think a big part of it might be the massive number of people at the events, especially Penitent/Shelter/Jofast. Loot seems to be proportional to damage done to some extent, and in a lot of cases I see entire spawns get killed before my attack animation completes. Try getting a group going and see if it affects your droprates.
Loot is only related to damage done when determining if you do enough damage to “tag” the mobs.
