Hey guys;

I would like to get some new dyes, the only i have os those you start with. Whats the best/cheapest way to get it?

Become a chef and craft it? buy it on TP? How about that pack you buy with 200 gems, is it worth to buy it?

How about skins, you have any tips to get new cool skins?

Most of the Common and Uncommon dyes can be acquired for a few silver each. If you’re looking to pad out your dye collection, just buy the ones you want. The same goes for Rare dyes; find one that you like, then buy it off the TP. Unidentified dyes now cost upwards of 50 silver each, and there’s no guarantee you’ll get the one you’re after. I recommend against crafting dyes too since that’s usually more expensive than simply buying the specific dyes you need.

Skins can be gotten in a variety of ways, but here’s some ideas to expand your collection:

1. Buy cheap skins off the TP. The T1 Cultural weapon skins, like Krytan or Glyphic, can all be acquired very cheaply in this manner.

2. If you do WvW, buy the T2 Cultural weapon skins with Badges of Honor.

3. Use your karma to buy some karma sets that can’t be acquired any other way. Examples include the Pirate weapons (from the end of Weyandt’s Revenge JP), the Lionguard weapons (bought from the vendors in LA), the Centaur weapons (bought from a karma vendor in Harathi Hinterlands) and the Ebonhawke weapons (bought from the karma vendors in Ebonhawke).

Always make sure to buy the cheapest version. The level 45/60/80 variants all use the same skin, but the level 80 version costs much more karma than the level 45 version.

4. If you are levelling crafting, make sure to craft a set of the unique skins for both armor and weapons at each Tier. Some of these skins are also part of Collections.

5. For other skins, such as Exotics or other unique weapons, I recommend just saving up and buying specific items that you like the look of.

The cultural vendors sell tiers of cultural items. For the weapons, check tier one first. Some vendors have the same set for all (Ebonhawke, Lionguard) except T1 is cheaper than the others.

There are some other karma weapons. Peacemaker (Rata Sum), Warden (the Grove) and the Norn and Charr sets, for which I forget the names, some of these can be bought from the trading post. These are up to 63k karma each and of those, 4 will cost 252k karma. Which will eat up your karma fast so you’ll need to budget it if you want all sets.

There are drops in regions, also, making it relatively easier to get things like the low-level racial gear. World Bosses once you hit level 39 or so should start rewarding a bonus chest once per day with a piece of Rare gear in it. These can have the Tier 1 skins.

Also, feel free to Mystic Forge blue items you don’t want. Quickest way to round out your skin collection if you’re not into spending a lot up front. Not surest but possibly quicker than otherwise. A minor trick – throw in four of the same type of item (four greatswords) and what you get back will be of the same type . . . all different types? Random type back.

Cheap skins is my wheelhouse:

1. Do not buy Racial Cultural weapon skins (except Tier 3) from the Cultural Vendors. These are all available through drops, and nearly all of them can be found for cheaper from some other vendor, or from the trading post if you get desperate.

2. For some seriously cheap Norn skins (less than 1 silver), look for a character named Sven in Wayfarer Hills. He has an event you must complete, after which he will run a long distance and become a vendor for about two minutes.

3. Androchus the Hidden, Latera Painstorm, Lakor Grizzlemouth, Vepar Darkheart, Crucibis Forgeweld, Lionguard Nadel, Environmental Activist Jenrys each sell at least one exclusive skin for little karma.

4. PvP remains the cheapest way to get many skins, via the dungeon and regional tracks. It also has the Balthazar track, which gives a unique backpiece, and the Glorious armor sets.

5. Personal Story used to award many awesome weapon and armor skins for free. Now these are limited to the very expensive Faction weapons (Whispers, Priory, Vigil). the Tier 1 chestpiece of cultural armor, and one or two armor pieces that used to be exclusive to PvP but are no longer in the game. Tier 3 Charr Cultural weapons used to be available through Personal Story, but I haven’t investigated it after the revamp.

6. Living Story and festivals often gives out exclusive armor skins for free (sometimes these become available from a vendor later). Currently you can earn Carapace and Luminescent armor from the Silverwastes area; it’s also home to the Welding Torch and more bandit bags then you can shake a stick at (which can give Bonetti’s Rapier, among other items). If you somehow missed Wintersday, the toy weapon skins are available for a few copper apiece on the trade post.

7. WvW Borderlands is home to the Armor Master and Weapon Master. These guys sell various skins and actual armor pieces for a combination of gold and Badges of Honor. WvW has three exclusive armor sets (Diviners, Mist Walker, Heavy Plate).

2. For some seriously cheap Norn skins (less than 1 silver), look for a character named Sven in Wayfarer Hills. He has an event you must complete, after which he will run a long distance and become a vendor for about two minutes.

This one here might be bugged. I haven’t seen this event since I was leveling chars over a year ago. Even when they had the daily events in wayfarer’s, I didn’t see it. I went and waited for about an hour. It never popped.

No point in reporting it though. The Ogre events for traits have been bugged and reported for months now with no result. :/

That one breaks fairly often. Sven will usually be inside the dredge cave near where the carrier normally would be.

Yah. I saw him in there and waited awhile. Then I wiki’d that the start was by the wp so I went out there and waited a while. No dice, so I guess it’s broken at the moment.

I must have stumbled onto that one at the right time then. :/ That sucks.
