Guild Wars 2

So my main who’s a Ranger, I found out he has a few quite low level items (mainly accessories). I just want to know, what’s a good way to get quality gear to prep him for the expansion?

From what I’ve seen, this is what needs to be replaced (and where I could find something without too much effort);
Headgear(Level 80): Good
Shoulders(Level 80): Good
Chest(Level 80): Good
Gloves(Level 80): Good
Leggings(Level 80): Good
Boots(Level 62): Replace

Weapon 1, Bow(Level 77): Could be better
Weapon 2, Longsword(Level 80): Good

ACCESSORIES…
Back(Level 80): Good
Accessory 1(Level 28): Replace
Accessory 2(Level 27): Replace
Amulet(Level 80): Good
Ring 1(Level 47): Replace
Ring 2(Level 20): Replace

You get laurels from daily login rewards. Keep them and use them to buy ascended rings and neck from the vender. If you are in a guild, do the guild missions to get the commendations to get the other accessory’s. If you like dungeons, do CoF to get zurker gear, most people recommend it as the must have gear for the game. You can get weapons from there too. All exotic level. If you like PvP, just do the story mode for CoF and do the reward track. You get 3 weapon boxes per track and 120 tokens (I think, I could be very wrong about this) and one armor box. You can select the stats and what part you want, and you can repeat it as many times as you like. You also get transmutation charges and Tombs of knowledge too.

What about for Karma?

You can get level 80 exotic armor, back items, rings, amulets, and “earrings”/accessories from the temples in Orr. Each temple merchant sells a different stat set. Do note that the Melandru temple and Arah merchants don’t carry the accessories, back items, amulets, or rings.

For armor:
Dwayna = Cleric’s
Balthazar = Rampager’s
Grenth = Berserker’s
Melandru = Magi’s
Lyssa = Rabid
Gates of Arah sells Soldier’s

For trinkets:
Dwayna = Rabid
Balthazar = Cavalier
Grenth = Soldier
Lyssa = Magi

Be aware that if you buy exotic armor with karma or WvW badges and put expensive runes in them you won’t be able to salvage the armor and get them back out. You can however run dungeons or do PvP and get dungeon armor with a limited selection of stats available and those are salvageable to remove runes.

Thing is, is there any non-group based ways to get gear at 80 for those specific pieces? I don’t want to be OP, I just want a Level 80 item. It doesn’t have to be really, really good. Just enough that I can kill something in under 15 seconds.

In other words, I’m not looking for something where I can get into dungeons and all of that other stuff. Just something to set me up where I would be able to (hopefully if this is even possible) solo the soloable content of the upcoming expansion. That’s all I want.

Please don’t question why. This is just the preferred way I wanna play this game.

Do you have a specific build in mind, and do your level 80 items have corresponding stats and sigils/runes? If not, it’s probably worth replacing them too.

Least effort would just be buying items on the trading post. Rares are usually 30-40 silver each, and if you replace them later you can salvage them for ecto. Greens would be even cheaper if you really don’t have gold, and still an improvement on your level 40-60 items. Add in some sigils and runes from the trading post and you’re probably fine.

My build would be basically for soloing. I assume lots of Power and Crit.

If you just want something and don’t care about the salvaging part go to Cursed Shores to the Grenth temple and buy the beserker temple armor. If it’s closed, guest to a couple of other servers and see if you can land on another shard where that temple is open or hang around till it opens, or join in when someone decides to get a group up to open it.

Can also do guild missions with guilds that guest people in when they run them. An hour a week or so for two weeks reduces the cost of one ascended trinket by a lot, again for the other if wanted. Fractals below 10 are really easy, if you try the guild missions approach they may also be doing them as well. Just doing the daily fractal stuff at your leisure will give you a no cost ascended ring. Laurels for ascended ammy, or get it in WvW for reduced laurel cost and some badges.

Exotic is fine though. The nice thing about ascended is if you make more alts they can share the gear (if useable). It’s all up to you though, the ecto cost buying ascended from the laurel (not ammy) vendor is too high for my tastes ^.^

The Orr temples do need to be cleaned before the vendors will sell you stuff but whilst it takes a few people to do that, they are open world and do not require being in a team. I’ve seen the LFG tool used to locate clean temples.

And I’d second the point about getting matching sigils and runes. Getting all your gear to 80 and rare or higher is important but so are the upgrades. Berserker temple gear with soldier stat upgrades improved my Guardians survivability a lot.

Buy them off the trading post? Rares(yellow) cost around 30-40 silver a piece, iirc. Exotics can range from 2-6 gold apiece.
