as a new GW2 player I am curious…lets say I find the gear with the stats I am looking but am much more fond of a look from another gearset… is there a way to get that “appearance” you want while still maintaining the stats you want?

thanks in advance!!

Bristleback can’t hit anything? Let’s fix the HP bug instead.

well that depends. If the gear you want to change is level 80 you will have to spend money at the gem store to purchase fine transmutation stones. But if the gear you want the apparance of is level 1-79 then you need basic transmutation stones, which you get 3 of for each complete area you do. This means doing all the hearts, points of interest, veiws, and skillpoints compleately on any given map.

Doing the starting locations of each race would net you a fairly decent amount of xp alongside netting a decent amount of transmutation stones

A quick how-to:

1) Place stats item and looks item in your bags, along with a transmutation stone (you can have a stack of stones, no problem).

2) Double click the stone. You will get a pop up window with two panes. Drag one item to the left pane, the other to the right. Which pane each gets doesn’t matter.

3) Now you will get separate little panes for each attribute: looks, stats, rune. Drag the one of each you want into the center.

4) Verify you have the pieces of each item that you want and click the button at the bottom. The original 2 items will vanish and you will have one new item. Enjoy!

Note that you can’t get back the skin you didn’t use, it’s gone.

You don’t have to buy fine transmutation stones (for lvl 80 items) with real money, you can just convert using in-game gold via the black lion trading panel. I have a stash of 20+ fine stones and I didn’t spend a single real life penny. If you’re lucky you can also get black lion keys from drops/map completion and use them to open chests for a chance at getting transmutation stones. The basic transmutation stones are pretty plentiful too.

You can also use this technique to change your upgrades, if your weapons and armour already have upgrades installed – clothing runes and weapon sigils.

Buy the cheapest usable weapon from the market place.
Buy the runes/sigils you want.
Put the runes/sigils on the cheap gear.
Transmute into your better equipment, choosing the correct upgrade on the 3rd option.

True but while your route to the gem funds can be done that way and is a vaild way to do that without spending any real life money, the gold to gem conversion ratio is still fairly poor, 1 gold will only net you 124 gems, and fine transmutation stones at the lowest amount offered need 1 gold 63 silver to purchase.

I personally dont think its worth the effort for someone who many not know where the best items or spots to farm are, or who may only be a casual gamer.

GuzziHero: You can just apply the new rune or sigil to the item. It will give you a prompt warning you the old one will be destroyed. Say ok and bingo, you have the new rune/sigil without having burned a transmute.

I tried that, it wouldn’t let me, in some cases. Odd.
