I’ve always had trouble getting money in GW2. My wallet never had more than 60g inside of it and never knew how to get such incredible amount as 500g to craft full ascended set, not even dreaming of a legendary weapon. The reason i’ve never had moe than 60g, if you ask, is I was trying to get my build to work, I was buying exotics (bad RNG, my old friend never lets me get what I want during hours of farming). So there I was, poor, frustrated, with no idea how to get rich, so I stopped playing for like 3 months. Lately, I felt the urge to play again, hell it’s Wintersday, I love it. It was at this time someone suggested farming Silverwastes, telling you can earn a good bit of coin. I love running around with an army of players hunting for elites, this is something I absolutely adore in GW2. If I can get a lot money from it, as the player, whose name I forgot, even better. And so I’ve started farming Silverwastes. How suprised i was when after 3 hours of joyful slaughter i ended up with… 3 gold… Not very rewarding I’d say, especially with my RNG. I searched the Internet for another option. I’ve decided to give TP flipping a shot. Nope. After 4 days none of my orders was succesful. Literally none. At this point, I really don’t know what to do to earn gold. When I see a player with like 3k in his/hers pouch I think to myslef “HOW THE kitten ARE YOU ABLE TO MAKE THIS AMOUNT OF MONEY”, not speaking about almost every player running around with a legendary weapon. I still play my game, poor, struggling to get my fashion and literally everything else. If you got any advice, I’d really appreciate it.

I’ve made about 1200 gold since HoT released by just playing the game normally.

Salvage your drops and sell the mats (or use them, that still counts as money earned since you don’t need to buy the mats for ascended crafting.)

Wintersday presents are selling for about 8 silver each, I just did the JP 5 times, so that’s 4 gold right there in about 10 minutes. If you can’t do the JP, do toypocalypse and bell choir.

PvP gives you liquid gold rewards and is quite profitable.

You should be earning roughly 1 gold per hour if you’re not trying in the slightest. If you’re trying to earn gold like with wintersday presents, that goes up substantially.

To really profit from Silverwastes you need to be smart about what you do with all the loot you gain. Anything that’s yellow, I sell on the TP. Blues & greens I will salvage and then sell the mats. With everyone needing the base mats for guild hall upgrades, ascended armor etc you can turn a pretty quick profit and get a fair amount of gold, especially if it is a mat that is needed for scribing.

A few other ways I gain gold are:

  • Laurels → sell to the vendor to buy crafting bags and then turn around and sell the mats on the TP. You can also buy dyes and sell them. Anyone one working on scribing needs them to progress.
  • Guild Missions – Running everything your guild has available is a nice way to get some extra cash & mats.
  • Guild Commendations – Buy up Sentinels Inscriptions or Gossamer and keep an eye on the TP, usually these go for a decent price.
  • PvP – The reward tracks are stupid good for making money. Not only do you get coin for playing matches you get tonnes of stuff for salvage out of the reward tracks.
  • World boss trains – again by selling yellows/oranges on the TP and salvaging blues/greens for mats plus the coin you get from the big reward chest.

If you just want to make gold a good way right now is to do the Wintersday activities and either sell the presents or open them and sell all the contents.

But instead of constantly chasing some magic trick to make heaps of gold why not just not worry about it?

I don’t enjoy most of the activities that make a lot of gold, and even when I do enjoy some (like Silverwastes) I can’t be bothered with things like remembering the correct process for sorting out the loot to make a good profit – I just sell everything I can on the TP, salvage everything else and keep the materials.

I’ve been playing since launch and I’ve made a legendary, 2 pieces of ascended armor, collected a few hundred minis, and bought various other things along the way.

My method is simply to be patient. I do whatever I feel like doing in game and as and when I realise I have enough gold for the next thing I want I buy it. Sometimes it feels like I’m able to buy things every day, sometimes it’s a few weeks, when I was making a legendary and saving up for the precursor it took 7 months. But since I’m enjoying what I’m doing when I play it doesn’t matter.

You talk about how you’ve never had more than 60g but to me that’s a lot. I frequently have less than 1g and 10g is usually my maximum. If you see it differently that’s fair enough, but ask yourself: What’s your goal? How much gold do you want? 1,000? 2,000? 3,000? Or are you more concerned with obtaining it at a set rate than a total? How much? Why? You obviously don’t enjoy the challenge, so why have you set yourself this goal? If you’re just looking to compare yourself to other players I’d be happy to give you regular updates on how little gold I have so you can feel like you’re doing better than someone else.

Ultimately it’s a game, it’s supposed to be fun. If the goal you’ve set yourself isn’t fun then to my mind that’s when you need to reassess what you’re doing.

Facepalm.

You did 3 gold in silverwaste, but did you bother looking at the material you got and you could sell or use?? The silky sand alone get you coarse sand that sell for a good amount. Direct Gold is rare in the game, almost nothing give you that in huge quantity. Why? Because this contribute to inflation. Most gold are from material that you can exchange for gold from other players.

And for heaven sake sell on the TP, not to NPCs unless nobody is buying the item there and consider posting your own sale price rather than instant sell.

Material promotion via the Mystic Forge is another way to make money quickly. GW2Shinies has a nice tool to help identify the MF crafting/promotion that makes the most bottom line profit (in coin) but you should temper your decision based on actual profit %, especially with material promotion because RNGesus can screw you over unless you do a lot of promotions.

Even then it’s not unusual to be 15% below the estimated return which means if your projected profit margin is less than 20%, you will lose money on the promotion. I usually look for a 40% minimum profit margin on promotions before I roll the dice.

I got the same feeling as you before.
I’ve been playing my Main for about 500hours now (im not an active player back then, just now in HoT).

for the first 400hours of my gameplay ? i think the max gold i had is 20~40g?(Level 80)
but now im in the 500hours+, so the earnings i got from 400~500hours, I gained gold as high as 500g+
as a returning player AND not a really active player, the earnings i got i considered as high.

Salvage Mats
Gather ALL Nodes
Learn to play the TP(as low kitten as profit will do)
Participate in Monthly Events ( Halloween, Wintersday, Living World)
Do Silverwastes events and Chest train farming.
Do events. ANY
Do daily Fractals low lvl and mid lvl (junks cost aroung 30s~1.2g)

As for crafting ascended, that’s one of my goals right now but I’m particularly doing fractals or PVP reward tracks for having a chance to loot ascended chests
Believe me, once you got the feeling of having gold that easily, you’ll get it in no time

Another thing to note is too save gold and not buy anything. When i’m saving up for a legendary I never really use gold except using waypoints, and even then the silver it costs me to wp is negligible compared to whatever I do. Maybe the first thing you should do is get comfortable with a build so you stop wasting money on gear. Gear can also be obtained in many ways aside from gold, you can buy it for karma, in wvw for about 1g + 250badges / piece, you can get it from pvp reward tracks etc.
If you want to save gold then you have to stop spending gold first and then start doing the tips other ppl in the thread have provided.

Ok did you run the events accross Silverwaste? Because that’s the less profitable portion of SW. What is profitable in SW is in not particular order, the Labyrinth, Breach, Vinewrath, the champs after VW and Chest Farm.

We do SW events to
1) get the map started
2) get bandit crest or
3) get shovels

But not for gold.

SW is not the most profitable thing to do anymore post HoT. Salvaging was a bit nerfed, the chest were a bit nerfed and tier 5/tier 6 which was one of the big source of income there have dropped in price. Still, with the addition of Coarse sand and the price of several low tier mats have increased so in final, SW is still a very good place to farm for mats/gold. It’s also super easy (once you know what to do) and don’t really have any diminish return. Not the most interesting thing to do, but a little bit everyweek is ok.
