Hey guys, I’ve been running around trying various professions, but I still can’t seem to decide. I really want to find a profession that is support oriented, yet can handle themselves in pve and pvp. I love my guardian, but I can’t really see myself binging him into pvp both WvW or Spvp. I tend to like to hang out in the back when in a group, and I really like the idea of pumping out boons. Sorry for being so indecisive.

How about going Elementalist with water specs? I’m going to look into it, but I think that’s pretty supportive. And you can stay in the back with Staff, sceptre etc.

Difficult to level? Got 9 lv80 with two of them being elementalists. I don’t agree with that assertion at all. Some professions are better at soloing certain events/skill challenges than others but actual leveling isn’t all that different.

Did you arrive from other games? A typical chore is to unlearn the gameplay and profession features of those prior games. GW2 has a different approach.

Anyway, you can go staff or scepter with your guardian and still “pump out boons”.
Each profession has strengths and drawbacks. Investigate each focusing on those features that appeal to you. Please remember that results will vary from player to player. What feels fluid and relaxed, powerful and godly to one player may be twitchy and difficult to another. The same goes for builds — what works for one player in a situation may not be as effective for a different player.

Anyway I hope you find some workable solutions.

Good luck.

Having played all classes and as well an healer in some of the other games. The only class that made me look at the partylist to see if people need my help is the guardian. Though the support is lesser then the traditional healer and, also the fact that being melee draws your attention away, the guardian is the class that can really make a difference for your party. You could go ranged. specially the staff has some additional healing capability’s that are very nice, But I still consider it a waste off potential if the group doesnt really need it. Simply cause the damage output on melee is so much higher.

The thing is the trinity is gone in this game. So even if the guardian is the designated support class, you are still very capable of dealing a good punch. So you still need to find a balance between killing quick or healing you and your party.

Water Ele and Guardian are probably your best bets for that honestly.

There’s a support build for eng as well I believe, which makes use of elixirs, healing bombs, healing turret, etc. However, multiple blast finishers in an ele’s Healing Rain will restore a good chunk of a zerg’s hps, whereas the same finishers in a guard’s Sacred Ground gives aoe retaliation.
