I finally got to the point of picking an elite skill, but none of them really appeal to me. I finally ended up going with Tome of Wrath, but I rarely use it. I mainly solo, and am doing the story line, but will do the dynamic events if I run across them.

Should I have picked one of the turn into a bear types? Are those attacks worth losing the greatsword and healing skills?

Thanks.

I tried that one first. It NASA value in dungeons I discovered. I then picked the one that stops all damage for 3 secs and resets your virtues (f1 f2 f3) and I use that now and then in PvE and it can help when getting pounded.

Only got those two for now but that’s my feedback on them.

First of all, keep in mind that there are RACIAL elite skills and PROFESSION elite skills. The “turn into x animal” elite skills are given to you because you are a norn. An Asura Guardian turning into a bear would be a bit silly now, wouldn’t it?

That being clarified , I’ve never tried any of those racial elites but as far as I know, Anet decided to make them weaker then class-specific elites so I wouldn’t spend my skill points on those. Try the one called renewed focus, it’s really helpful when you need that extra tankiness.

“We have no first-person view because stupid people would lock into it”
“You can’t have more than 10 HS decks because that would confuse people”
“30 fps is more cinematic”

Sounds perfectly normal to me.

The first tier of Guardian Elites are pretty terrible, racial elites aside. I’ve tried using Tome of Wrath on multiple occasions, but without decent Condition Damage, it’s main attack only serves to draw aggro to you, thus getting you killed. The 9/9 patch has increased the health pool while in the state, but I remain an unbeliever.

Definitely take Renewed Focus as it’s the one Elite usable underwater (sadly).

Whatever the case, the only Elite worth getting is Tome of Courage for its 5-man full heal.

I suggest you use the tome of Courage there is a spell that fully heals you and 5 other allies Aslo when you use it you have A quick heal abilty And you have double health when you use the tome So The Tome of Courage i think is a must

My favorite elites are Renewed Focus and Tomes of Courage.

I’m only responsible for what I say, not for what you understand.

And if your unfortunate enough like me to pick NORN, then your screwed because all of theirs are forms that replace your skills. Sucks that I have to get 30 levels to find out that the WORST race/class combo in the game for elites is a norn guardian. Now I’m at the point where I’m re-rolling. Seriously, no non-form options for norn? What were they thinking?

The two Tomes can be valuable when used, if you’re specced right. Tome of Courage in particular is awesome when timed right.

The Norn animal forms have some seriously surprising utility, however. Bear Form has a charging attack that goes until it hits an enemy or you release the button, which has led to a rather nice way to get through evil trapped halls quickly. Snow Leopard form has a five-second stealth on it, also useful at times. And while I’m not certain about this, I believe Wolf Form heals when it attacks—either it does, or someone cast something on me to make me gain health, and I really don’t think that’s the case. All the forms come with a massive boost to your health as well, which is useful in a lot of cases (and makes Wolf Form terribly hard to kill with the life gain).

HOWEVER. All that being said, the Guardian elites themselves are fairly boring, and I find myself using the invulnerability+virtue recharge one pretty much all the time. It’s highly useful, as you can use it to tank big attacks and hold mobs in place for longer before having to dodge, and the ability to instantly give your team the active Virtues without losing the passive effects is extremely nice in those “oh kitten” moments.

Admittedly, I’m fairly disappointed that the most useful elite to me is a glorified signet recharge, but, I love everything else about the class too much to let it bother me.

renewed focus is really, really a good skill. i don’t know why everyone underestimates it so much. if you skill into the last trait tier, you get reg/protection/might from your virtues, then get invulnerable for 3 sec, then do it again? no matter if you are alone or with others, that skill is awesome, no matter if you’re playing tanky or dps or supporty.

really, give it a chance, you will not regret it.

Tome of Wrath was godly in dungeon groups pre-9/9 nerf. Now it’s medocre. Still good, you’ll hit like a truck evenw ithout condition damage, but it lost a lot of its utility. Before the nerf you could give 3 seconds of quickness you everything around you once when you activated the book, then again at the end. Now you can only do that with someone else giving you quickness. The new 2 second cast time makes it so you can’t squeeze in the second quickness. They also capped the targets to 5, so have fun partying with rangers or necros…

Quickness nerfs aside, the 5 takes too long to cast and isn’t worth it at all. 2 is decent, 3 is really good, and spamming 1 is actually really good damage. Use this in parties, avoid it solo as entering a tome solo will usually get you killed. While soloing I prefer to use my Asuran Defensive Golem elite, so if you have a summon type elite go for it. Transform elites aren’t too great for Guardians because they need their normal skill set to not-die.
